I rant about high notes
Okay, so this is more for all of you band people out there. But, I mean, anyone can read this, but if you're not in band, then you probably won't get it as much.
I hate high notes.
Most of the time, I have the option to play the high part, or the low part. I always pick the high part.
You: well, if you hate high notes, then just play the low part. It's that simple.
It seems simple, yeah, but if I don't play the high notes, then nobody will. And then the band teacher asks who plays trumpet 1 (aka the part with all of the high notes), and nobody raises their hands.
Right now, I should probably say that I have a super small band. In my school, band is an option, and you cab either do band, guitar, or art. So while there's, like, two or three different classes of art students, and probably one or two guitar classes in my grade, there's only one band class.
We have:
-1 oboe
-1 alto saxophone
-7 clarinets
-5 trumpets (including me!)
-2 trombones
-2 percussionists
-4 flutes
And that's it. All of the band students in the grade. (Notice how the highest number of people play clarinet? I rest my case that there are too may clarinets.)
And me and my friend Betty and me are the only ones who play trumpet 1, ever. Except that she bailed on me for Pinnacle. (Look it up, it's actually a really nice song)I guess the high E's were too much. But I stuck through until the end. But now, guess what.
I HAVE TO PLAY FREAKING PINNACLE FOR THE PLAYING TEST.
And that is not okay. Because I hate playing tests. You know why? Because I hate preforming on my own. And for a playing test, that's exactly what you do. If you mess up, then everyone can hear. And I play all the high notes, which are hard. Lemme tell you why.
To play a note on a trumpet, you have to buzz your lips, and sometimes press valves. The higher the notes, the more air you have to put in. And since most of the time, trumpet, especially trumpet 1, has the melody, I have to play through the whole thing. And it sucks.
So, yeah. That was my rant about high notes, and it sort of turned into a rant about playing tests, as well. But I guess that's okay. I got out my rant, and that's what matters.
Bye!
