Book 1 Chapter 4: Forest (blood warning- 1st death)
"Welp, we're here!" Doggy announced after a couple hours of us walking. It definitely was the camp forest I remember.... but emptier and eerie... I didn't like it that much, but I didn't have much of a choice, since anywhere else would have been overrun with infected. "Hey, Doggy?" "Yea?" He replied. "I think some of those infected were our friends... I did feel bad about shooting Georgie, he's just a kid!" I whimpered. Doggy pat my shoulder comfortingly and replied with, "I know, but it ain't them no more... Mr. P turned 'em into monsters... Just to save his wife. While I can sympathize with him, that gives no excuse to bring the world to hell!"
I nodded in understanding. "Let's just get to sleep, we'll find somewhere else in the mornin'..." I yawned and trudged to an abandoned tent. "G'night, Doberman." I sighed before disappearing into the tent. "Night, Willow." Doggy yawned before going into his tent. An hour or two had past when I heard faint mumbling and a twig snapping. I woke up immediately after and carefully opened up the tent. "Doggy? Are you there?" I called out, hoping to hear him. I did and I sighed in relief. "Yea, over here!" He barked and I rushed out to meet him. "We gotta get out of here... it ain't safe." Doggy snapped. "Yea, I'll check around to see if anyone is hiding around here. I'll be careful and watch around for any infected."
I spoke. "Fine, howl if you find anyone." Doggy huffed and ran off. I rushed to check the cabins, but all were empty except the last one on the far right. I heard faint whimpering and slowly opened the door. "W-William?" I barked. It was my brother! "Willow!" He cried and rushed me in a big hug. "Oh, William! You're safe!!" I sniffled and returned the hug. I thought he was gone, but he's ok! My little brother is ok!! "How did you survive for so long?" I asked. "S-Sheepy brought me here before she turned into one of those monsters... I'm scared, Willow.. I'm real scared..." He whimpered. "Hey, it's ok... I'll protect ya." I whispered to William before howling loud to alert Doggy I found someone. He came over and looked just as surprised as I did when I first saw my little brother.
"William... You're alive! Man, I missed ya!" He yipped and ruffled my little brother's hair. He chuckled before pushing the dog's hand off. "I missed you too, Mr. Doggy!" He barked. C'mon, kiddo! We gotta get outta here." Doggy growled, looking around cautiously. "W-What about Sheepy? Sh-she's gonna c-catch us- I'm real scared...." My little brother cried. "Don't worry... I'll make sure nothin happens to you! I won't lose you again..." I muttered and hugged William tightly. "You promise, big sis?" He whimpered. I nodded and grinned. "I promise.... Now let's get out of here." I replied and took William out of the cabin. There we saw the grey sheep holding a mallet and slightly twitching. Her back was turned to us so we were able to sneak past her and found a gate that led to an exit.
"That's barbed wire on the gate.... We'll be cut to shreds if we try to climb it.... Plus it's electrified, so we'll most likely be charred before being sliced to ribbons... We'll need to turn off 3 generators before we can even get to the wire." William remarked. Wow, didn't think he was that smart, but guess I underestimated him. "Willow, you get the generators, I'll keep Sheepy away from you and William." Doggy barked, and I nodded in response before rushing off to find the generators. It was honestly easier than I thought and I was able to get the generators shut off before rushing back to the gate. "Now what about those barbs?" I muttered.
William then took out a pair of scissors and started cutting the wire, climbing up the gate as he did so. "Be careful!" I called from below. "Almost done!" William barked back. Soon enough, he cut a path to climb over the gate and I landed on the other side. I saw Doggy coming in close, but Sheepy was right behind him.... And something terrible happened... "MR. DOGGY, WATCH OUT!" My little brother howled, but Doberman turned around too late. Sheepy swung her mallet and bashed his head in.... He fell to the ground with blood pooling out of his head and a terrified look cemented on his face.
"NOOOOO!" William cried and covered his mouth..... I was... Mortified.... He was actually dead..... Doggy's dead.... I could feel the tears slithering down my face as I let the fact sink in.... "C'mon, William...... Let's go before we're next..." I growled through a cracking voice and lead my brother away from the forest. We were safe for now, and that's when he broke down sobbing. He hugged me tightly and whimpered. "Mr. Doggy's dead.... He's gone!" "I know, William.... I miss him too, but it won't do us any good if we dwell on it.... Let's find Mr. P and a cure, for his sake..." I sighed and returned the hug. Even I teared up a little, but I had to stay strong for William.... For my little brother.
"Uhhh, hello? Is anyone there?" Someone called. I looked around and found a walkie talkie on the ground. "Ummm, yea. Who are you?" I responded. "Mr. P.... I need you to do something for me." The voice replied. As soon as I heard the name, my blood started to boil. "So you're the bastard who caused this!?" I snapped. "Calm down, Willow.... I mean no harm, I did not mean for this to happen, I didn't know it would spiral out of control. Now will you listen or not?" Mr. P retorted.
Of course he knew my name, almost everyone in Lucella does.... "Fine, what do you need?" I huffed and picked up the walkie talkie. "I need you to save an old friend of mine from the school just up ahead. You'll do that, won't you?" He asked. I sighed and shook my head. "Fine.... But don't think I'm not comin to kick your ass!" I barked. "Fair enough." He muttered. Welp, looks like school is back in session, and I really have no choice in the matter.... Great.... Just another thing to deal with, along with this new infection and Doggy LITERALLY DYING NOT EVEN AN HOUR AGO! I don't see how this could get any worse...
