Human Realm

A/N- Just another chapter. I can't draw very well, but as you can see above, I drew some fanart for my own fanfic. Wow. What do I even do with my life? *nervous laugh* Anyways, these chapters seem to be getting longer the more I write. So I hope you enjoy!

Alex POV

I opened my eyes, and was greeted with warm, bright light. I squinted my eyes up at the sun and took in my surroundings. It seemed I was at some sort of recreational area for small humans. The little things (children they called them?) ran around and laughed with one another. There were various plastic contraptions that the so called children were playing on. It didn't look particularly safe, but who was I to judge. There was green grass and trees surrounding the area, and what looked like to be tall buildings and houses spanned as far as I could see.

I walked over to a sign that was near the children and their plastic things. Boston Nature Park. (A/N- probably not a real place, just go with it) Huh. I was in Boston, Massachusetts. It was a good thing I was sent to America, since my first language was English.

A few kids were staring and pointing at me, whispering to their friends. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and looked back at them. They seemed to be looking at my back.

"Crap," I muttered under my breath as I realized what they were looking at. My wings. Unfortunately, even being in the human realm did not get rid of my wings. And since pixies were mythical creatures to humans, I'd have to hide them.

I quickly ran behind a large oak tree and frantically took off my sweatshirt and lifted up my shirt. I didn't even care if people saw my chest, I just didn't want them to see my wings. I folded my delicate wings up against my back and threw my shirt back on. I made sure they didn't go back through the wing holes in the back of my shirt as I put on my sweatshirt. It was definitely uncomfortable, but I looked like a normal human, so that's all that mattered. Well, it seemed most humans didn't have green hair, but that was only a minor issue.

I walked away from my hiding place and sighed from relief that the kids seemed to have forgotten me. If I had gotten caught, let's just say things wouldn't have gone well.

I put my hands in my sweatshirt pockets as I walked along the sidewalk. Professor Twinkle had set me up with an apartment I could stay at, so I didn't need to worry about shelter. He also gave me a plastic card he called a credit card that would allow me to purchase items that i needed. I didn't really understand the whole money thing.

I breathed in the cool winter air as I gazed up at the buildings around me. The human realm was strange. They lived in cubes made of brick and concrete, always paranoid that someone would break in. Didn't they trust one another? Then again, humans were the only ones we didn't trust. Why would we trust them? They were evil, manipulative creatures that no one could control. At least, that's what we were told. But being here, looking at it all, it honestly didn't seem that scary. Most of the people I saw walking down the streets looked perfectly harmless. No. I can't think like this. I was here for a reason, and I wasn't about to go make friends with these humans. We hated them for a reason, and I was only here to prove it.

I continued to walk down a street, desperately looking for the address of my apartment. I made what felt like too many turns, and almost got run over by a car twice. Finally, I found the building, and now I had to find my apartment number. 1230... 1235.... 1242... 1256! Perfect! I unlocked the door with my key, and looked around. It was a simple space, with a living room area, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. Compared to my tiny hut back home, this place was luxurious.

I walked into the bedroom and found that the dresser was already filled with my traditional pink and green clothes. Professor Twinkle must have transported them from my room. So thoughtful of him to do that. I still remember when he first offered me this position.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" I asked him as I walked into his office. During Magic class he had told me to meet him after school. He swiveled around in his chair to face me. He smiled and took a bite from his apple that he was currently eating.

"Alex, you came!" he exclaimed before taking another bite. He loved eating apples. A lot of other pixies in his class were positive he was a god of death in disguise. But Professor Twinkle was too nice. "Yes, yes. I did bring you here for something," he said, setting his apple down on his desk. He motioned his hand for me to sit in one of the chairs, and I complied. "So you said you're planning on coming out to your dad pretty soon?" He asked me, and I nodded unsure of where this conversation was going. "Well, if anything were to go wrong, or if you simply needed to get away for awhile, I have an offer for you."

"And what's that?" I asked, my hands fidgeting in my lap.

"For one month, and only one month, I will allow you to visit the human realm. During this period of time, you'll collect information on humans and how they react to certain situations. This data may be used in future human knowledge classes and to keep pixies away from the danger. You will report back to me every week with your information. And not to worry, I have an apartment and bank account all set up for you. That is, if you choose to take the offer. It doesn't have to be now, just anytime that you need it. Plus, it will benefit Lasikicle and every pixie living here. Any questions?" He explained to me, and my mouth hung open in shock. I could go to the human realm?

"I'll let you know when I need it. Thank you so much professor." I told him, and he smiled warmly at me.

"Of course, Alex."

The memory made me smile, but also homesick at the same time. But I couldn't go back home. At least, not now. I needed to give my father time. And this was the only way.

I suddenly heard a knock on my door. I quickly ran to the front door, a little nervous for what could be my first human encounter. I opened the door cautiously, trying not to look too suspicious. A boy with shoulder length blonde hair who seemed about my age greeted me. He was wearing a green shirt and a necklace with a interesting looking pendant attached.

"May I help you?" I asked him, and I saw him fidget with the end of his shirt out of habit.

"Um, yeah. I realized that someone had just moved in, and I thought it'd be nice to meet my neighbor. I live right down there," he told me, pointing to another door. I nodded awkwardly.

"I'm Alex," I told him, sticking out my hand for him to shake. His cold hand gripped mine, and he paused for a moment before shaking.

"Nice to meet you Alex. I'm Magnus."

A/N- so that was the chapter. Comment and vote if you want to. (And if you got the Death Note reference I love you)
