TWO
Eve tapped her fingers anxiously against the kitchen bench, waiting on Finn's arrival. Her eyes glazed over her phone, checking to see if he had messaged her that he would be late. She couldn't keep her mind off what had happened that morning. The memory replayed over and over in her mind. Their words burried themselves in her mind, forcing her to try to understand. Henry had been taken to Neverland by Greg and Tamara, and now she was expected to help save him.
Her train of thought was interuppted by the distinct click of the door handle. Finn darted into the apartment, pizza in hand. "I'm so sorry I'm late." He sighed as he sat the pizza on the bench.
Eve ran over to him and embraced him in a spine crushing hug.
"Hey hey easy there I'm fragile." He says, trying to make light of the situation, for which Eve is thankful. She smiled lightly, trying to hide her fear. She opened the pizza box and pulled out a slice, quickly beginning to eat it. The two sat in silence for what seemed like hours. After the food was gone Finn broke the silence.
"Are you ok?" He whispered gently, reaching a hand out and placing it on Eve's shoulder.
"No." She whispered. The fear in her eyes was evident. He could tell in an instant that she was truly afraid.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Eve stood and placed the pizza box in the rubbish bin. "There's nothing to talk about." She moved to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water, she was feeling lightheaded again.
"Eve please..." Finn pleaded. Eve let out an exasperated sigh and slammed the bottle down on the bench.
"There's nothing to talk about Finn! I'm going back." She snapped, her hands shaking dangerously. Sweat began to form on her brows and her head spun.
"Eve you can't."
She tried to steady herself. "I have no choice. I can't leave him. Not there." Eve tried to pour herself a glass of water, but it spilled everywhere. Finn sighed and walked around to her. He quickly poured the water. "Go and sit down." He ordered, she obliged and made her way to the couch. Finn follwed, handing her the water after she sat down.
"Eve think about this." He whispered, noticing how afraid she was. She took a small sip of her water. "I told you, there's nothing to think about. I can't leave him there. He'll die."
"And what about you? What if you die? Eve I'm your friend. I've watched you move past this and build a life for yourself. You can't just throw that all away. You know what he will do to you if you go back."
Eve's lip trembled and tears pooled in her eyes once more. "I know. But it's Henry. He doesn't stand a chance in that place, with those boys. If I leave him there and he dies, it will be my fault." She murmured.
Finn ran his hands through his hair. "Eve please, I can't loose you." Silence took over them once more, neither one knowing what to say. As the silence continued, Eve slipped into a memory.
"So what do you think my darling?" Pan asked.
"I think that your a monster." Eve spat at him. He grabs her wrists and yanked her closer to him.
"Then why did you come here. You know the law, I can't force you to go, there has to be a part of you, even if it's tiny that wants to come here." He whispered in her ear. "So why did you come here Evangeline?"
"You know why, you know that there is a part of me that wants to be here, that wants to believe you are good, and can be saved. So I guess you could say I came here under false pretence." She snarled.
"Such big words my dear, your beginning to sound smart."
"Eve? Eve? Come back to me." Finn snapped his fingers in front of her face, pulling her back to reality.
"Sorry."
"Where'd you go?"
"Doesn't matter."
"Come here." He whispered and pulled Eve into a tight hug. "Everything is going to be ok." He whispered gently. Eve snuggled closer to him, embracing his warmth. She felt safe, like nothing could hurt her. Soon her eyes began to feel heavy, and she allowed herself to be consumed by the darkness.
