SIX
Eve could feel when the ship docked upon that dreaded island. Something deep within her core shook as they threw the anchor and haulted the ship. She felt the cold seep into her body, wrapping her in an icy embrace. The island welcomed her and pulled at her mind. The boy had expected her return, in fact he'd counted on it. He sent his magic running through the veins of the island, willing it to pull her in once more. But things had changed, she wasn't a naive little girl anymore, she knew all too well the dangers that lurked within the island. She soon felt the magic reach out and try to wrap around her. But Eve wasn't foolish enough to let it in. She was able to look past the shimmering beauty and see it for what it really was.
Cold. Dark. Twisted.
The magic retracted it's icy fingers and withdrew from the outskirts of her mind. Within seconds Eve's eyes flew open, and she was met with several worried faces. She blinked hard a few times as she remembered the past few moments.
"Eve." Finn was instantly at her side, cup of water in hand. "Are you alright? We thought we'd lost you." He fumbled and handed her the water.
"I'm fine. Lets go find Henry."
"We are, your staying here with Finn until tomorrow, so you can recover." Regina said carefully.
"No. You didn't drag me to this island just to sit on a ship." She snapped and tried to stand, but her legs were shaky.
"You'll get a chance to help. You just need to regain your strength, you're useless to us if you are weak." Rumple's words were tight.
Eve glares at him angrily then turns her head to Killian. "Take care of them." She says and he cracks a smile. "I'll try, but I can't make any promises." He chuckled and nodded at Rumple. Eve smiled gently and watched in defeat as Regina used her magic to transport them all to the shore, leaving only Finn and Eve on the ship.
Eve turns her attention to the cup of water in her hands. Slowly she begins to swirl it around and droplets landed on her skin. Finn watches her carefully for a few moments before reaching out and grabbing her hand. He didn't need to say anything, he just looked at her and she knew what he was asking.
"I'm fine." Was Eve's response.
"You don't look fine. Come on Eve, you can't lie to me." He took the cup from her hands and sat it down beside them. Eve sighed.
"I can't let it get to me. I can't let him get to me." She whispered gently. "Finn this place...." Her voice trailed off as she looked over into the distance, her eyes focused on the shore. "This place is dangerous. You can't let it get to you. He will try everything to get his magic into your head. You have to be strong, block it out." Her gaze returned to the boy before her. "You can't let him in."
Finn nodded. "I won't." He said reassuringly. Eve smiled gently and the two sat in silence. Eve's head whipped around as she heard something clatter behind her. Finn too turned his attention to where the sound had come from.
"Who's there?" Eve called, standing to her feet slowly. "Regina?"
The pair slowly made their way around to where the sound had come from. Eve held her breath as they heard the sound once more. "Who's there?!" She called once more. The sound rang out again. Eve released a shaky breath. They rounded the corner, afraid of what they would see. Yet their fears were relieved when they saw a rat scurry under a pile of boxes.
"Thank god." Finn chuckled.
"Hello lost girl." Eve could feel her heart beating inside her chest. She could hear the blood pumping in her ears as the cool breeze swept across her. Herself and Finn both turned at the same time. It felt like time had stopped. Like the world had stopped spinning.
"Did you miss me?" Felix pouted and the group of lost boys chuckled. "Of course she did." Thomas sniggered and jumped down from the side of the ship. Finn stepped forward so that he was slightly in front of Eve.
"Leave us alone." He growled, Eve had never seen him like this.
"And who are you? Another toy to play with?" Slightly called. "Or maybe a new lost boy." Aaron called.
Finn's confidence waivered as the boys stepped closer. "He's neither." Eve snapped and turned her attention to Felix. "What do you want?"
The lost boy chuckled, his club swinging down by his side. "Why you of course." With that the lost boys ran at them and Finn and Eve ran. The rounded the corner and headed towards the front of the ship. They could lock themselves in the captains quarters. But the lost had already beat them to it. Eve and Finn looked at one another as they were cornered at the front of the ship. The boys inch closer and Finn and Eve climb up into the railing, holding onto the rope.
"There's no where to go!" Finn cried. Eve looked down at the water, the waves crashed against the side of the ship and the jagged rocks beside it.
"We have to jump." Eve whispered.
"Are you crazy? We could die!" Finn protested. "And what do you think the lost will do?" She snapped. "They will kill you without a second thought. We have to jump." Her eyes flickered between Felix and the ocean. "On three." She whispered as Felix approached them.
"Did you honestly think that you could get away?" Felix chided.
"One." Eve whispered.
The lost boys laughed.
"Two."
Felix smirked and a wicked grin twisted onto his lips. "You will always be Pan's lost girl. He owns you."
Eve narrowed her eyes and glared daggers at the lost boy. "I will never be his." She spat at him before turning to Finn. "Three!"
Both Eve and Finn launch themselves off the side of the ship. Their bodies hit the water and the current instantly pulls them under. They kick their legs and break the surface, sucking in large breaths of air. Curses spill from the lost boys as they scramble to get to the boats.
"Swim!" Eve shouts at Finn and they both push against the current. The waves crash against them. "Eve!" Finn shouts as the lost paddle closer. Panic begins to course through her veins as she searches for an escape. Suddenly out of the corner of her eye she spots their escape. She grabs Finn's hand and yanks him underwater, pulling him towards the cave. The two of them swim further down, inching closer to the mouth of the tunnel. After what feels like an eternity the pair swim into the tunnel which leads to the shore. Various air pockets fill the tunnel and they both scramble for breath. Eve once again pulls on Finn's arm, dragging him along.
"Eve please.." Finn begged. "We can't stop." She pressed, pulling him along. "They will find us." They ran as quickly as they could towards the exit and the shore. Soon enough the sun was beating down on them and the sand crunched under their shoes.
"He will find you lost girl!" Felix shouted from the boats as he watched both Finn and Eve escape into the forest.
