out of the loop

Evelyn had been scribbling furiously on the piece of paper on the table, tucking her bottom lip into her mouth as she looked over her brother's homework. Enrique was never one for academics and she knew that so Evelyn being the good sister she was, did his math homework for him, and sometimes she couldn't believe how blatantly wrong the answers to his work were.

Enrique stared across the table and placed his chin in the palm of his hand, letting out a dramatic yawn. "Evie, Evie, Evie...Evelyn, Evelyn, Eve—"

"What the hell do you want?" she asked, looking up from his work. "I'm trying to do your homework!"

"And I've been trying to speak to you for the last hour," he whined, throwing his hands up in the air. "How could you not tell me what happened at the hospital? I had to hear from Spencer that Jordan was married!"

Evelyn picked up her pencil and threw it at his forehead making him jerk his head back at her sudden actions. "Maybe because I didn't feel like their marriage was worth gossiping about?"

Enrique eyed his sister suspiciously, her cheeks flushed as she spoke, and she had been heavily avoiding eye contact. "Oh, don't tell me you still have feelings for Jordan? You're not...you're not like, bothered about this, right? Damn it, Evelyn, I knew you'd be the one to fuck up the relationship with Ash!"

"Ricky! How could you say that?" she scoffed. "I'm not...bothered or anything like that."

"Sounds a little sus to me," he cleared his throat and looked around at his surroundings in the library, trying his best to avoid his sister who looked like she wanted to murder him. "I won't tell Asher if you have feelings for Jordan. Pinky swear, dude."

"Look, I am in love with Asher and I have no feelings whatsoever for Jordan," she admitted, honestly. "And, I guess it's just a little weird to me, okay? Plus, the way Simone just blurted it out at the hospital was pretty fucking awkward. But, no way in hell, do I have feelings for Jordan's dumbass."

"Do you think Jordan knows what like a promise ring is? Or even telling a girl how he feels?" Enrique wondered, tapping his finger against his chin. "I mean, first he was like, hell yeah, I'll be the dad to Simone's baby. Now, he's her husband. I don't know what being in love is like but no way in hell would I ever marry my high school girlfriend."

"You're talking about the same guy who said I love you to me after like, 2 months of dating," Evelyn shrugged. "That boy does not know how to just live in the moment."

"You think if Asher asked you to marry him you'd say yes?" Enrique asked.

Evelyn widened her eyes at her brother. "Um...no, I wouldn't. One, I love him but we're in high school. And two, we've never even had a conversation about our future. God, this topic is giving me hives." She shuddered dramatically pushing the sheets of his math homework in front of his face. "I gotta get to class. See you later."

"Thanks for finishing my homework!" Enrique called out.

As Evelyn walked out of the library and approached her locker, she was thrown off by the surprise figure standing at her locker. It was almost as if the universe had wanted the girl to face all of her problems head-on instead of ignoring them.

Simone sent the girl a small wave. "Hey."

"What's up?" she questioned.

"I was talking to Asher earlier and he didn't know about mine and Jordan's marriage," Simone confessed with a guilty expression. "And I kind of didn't know that and told him you also knew."

"Simone!" Evelyn groaned. "What the hell?"

"I'm sorry," Simone apologized. "Look, I didn't mean to cause any issues but Jordan's obviously going through a lot and I thought if I went to Asher then he could talk to him. But, he got upset and he seemed even more upset that you didn't tell him."

"Alright," she sighed. "Thanks for telling me. I'll talk to him and try to clear things up."

Simone nodded her head, eyeing her friend as she stayed planted at her locker. "You're not upset...about the marriage. Are you?"

"Oh, my God," Evelyn groaned, banging her head lightly against the metal door of her locker. "No, I'm not upset. Was it kind of weird to hear about it at the hospital? Yes. You know, I think I'm more upset that I didn't hear about it from you earlier. We're supposed to be friends and maybe our friendship won't ever be normal because I dated Jordan. But, it would've been a little nice if I had heard from you privately instead of in the middle of a showdown with Mrs. Baker. That's it."

"We are friends," Simone sighed. "I'm sorry. As your friend, I probably should've told you privately instead of at the hospital in front of his parents, Liv, and Spencer. Honestly, I thought it'd potentially ruin our friendship if I told you."

"Well, you were wrong," Evelyn shrugged. "I have to go. But we're cool, okay?"

After the talk that Evelyn had with Simone, she had been feeling a bit guilty for keeping yet another secret from her boyfriend. So, being the good girlfriend she was, she picked up some of his favorites from the cafe before heading straight over to Asher's house. His dad's car was parked on the driveway meaning she'd have to interact with him which was something she never really liked to do considering she felt slightly intimated by the older man.

Mr. Adams opened the door, spotting his son's girlfriend at the door, and pointed upstairs. "He's in his room. Come on in."

"Thanks," she muttered, stepping past the threshold of the door to get inside. "It's nice to see you, Mr. Adams."

He gave her a silent nod which she completely waved off and retreated up towards her boyfriend's room. He was sitting at his desk with his back turned to her and she couldn't help but wrap her arms around him, essentially startling him and making him jolt in fear.

"Announce yourself next time!" Asher scoffed. "I think my heart stopped."

She rolled her eyes dropping the food she had brought onto his desk, before skipping over to his bed and plopping down on it. "You're being dramatic, babe."

"Babe?" he raised his eyebrows, letting a harsh glare come over his features. "Isn't that something reserved for couples who share things with each other?"

"Oh, there it is!" she giggled. "I know you're upset that I didn't tell you about Jordan and Simone's marriage."

"And you didn't tell me about your offers. I literally had to find out from JJ," Asher added crossing his arms against his chest "I feel left out. Everyone has things going on in their lives and I'm not included in any of them. Clearly."

"Are we in a fight?" she questioned, with a playful smile on her face. "Because we never fight!"

"Evelyn," Asher deadpanned, picking up a crumpled piece of paper from his desk and throwing it at her. "I'm being serious. Come on."

"Okay, okay, I'm being serious," she sighed. "Look, I'm sure Jordan didn't intentionally mean to not tell you. A lot's been going on and he probably just forgot. Plus, it kind of seemed like the only people who knew were the ones who went to Vegas."

"So, now you're speaking for your ex-boyfriend?" he questioned. "That doesn't explain why you didn't tell me about it. Do you still have feelings for—"

"No! God, no!" she yelled, throwing her hands up. "I am with you and I love you. I don't have feelings for Jordan. I was more upset that I had to find out at the hospital in the middle of a showdown between Simone and Mrs. Baker. That's all. I swear."

"Yeah, I heard about that whole showdown thing," he chuckled. "Probably wasn't the most comfortable situation. Sorry for assuming you were still into...him."

"Unfortunately, you're not the first person," she shrugged, giving him an eye roll. "And I'm sorry for not telling you about it. I just thought it'd be better to hear from Jordan or even Simone. It wasn't really my business to tell anyone."

Asher nodded, pushing himself off of his chair and stood in front of his girlfriend, towering over her. "I understand."

She looked down at her lap trying her best to avoid eye contact with him. "So...we good?"

"Yeah," he nodded. "We're good."

"Are...you gonna eat?" she questioned, getting flustered as she glanced up at him. "I didn't buy that food for nothing."

"And it smells good," he shrugged, picking the necklace off of her chest and toying with the medallion. "But...uh, not as good as you."

"That was cheesy!" she exclaimed. "And your dad is right downstairs. So...we'll have to be quiet."

She kicked her shoes off in a rushed manner, slipping the jeans she was wearing off, and nodding towards the bed so that Asher could join her. She quickly joined him, swinging her leg over his lap and straddling him, his hands moved down to explore her bottom half.

"You know you're good at a lot of things, babe," he complimented, lifting her t-shirt above her head. "But, being quiet isn't one of them."

She let out a shocked gasp, swatting at his shoulder before inching forward and kissing him. Asher tightened his grip around her waist and pulled her closer to his body, she let out a small giggle at the feeling of something underneath her lap. Asher groaned loudly into her mouth at the feeling of his girlfriend grinding against him.

"Hey, what was that you said about me being loud?" Evelyn taunted, pulling away from the kiss.

Asher shook his head and rolled his eyes, pulling open the drawer of his nightstand in search of a condom and looking slightly defeated once he reached for the empty box. "You don't happen to have a condom?"

"No, I don't just carry them in my wallet like you," she scoffed. "And I just switched my birth control...So, no, doing that other thing we usually do."

"Damn," he groaned, throwing his head back in annoyance. "I guess we can't do this."

Evelyn glanced at him, smiling mischievously as she played with the hairs on the back of his neck. "We can do other...things."

Asher sent her a soft smirk, flipping them over and hovering above her. "You first."
