CHAPTER NINE, a war of roses

(violet's outfit for this chapter)

"Wow! Look at all these roses!" Violet said with surprise, smiling at the room full of roses. "I wonder who they're all for."

"No idea." Jackson shakes his head. "I couldn't find the card."

Then the door to the living room opened and Max rushes into the living room first, leading the four women inside. Becky, who had been staying at the house after the renunion show, gasps in shock at all the roses. "Oh.." Stephanie said, her eyes widening.

"My..." Kimmy added, staring at the room with surprise.

"Lanta!" DJ finished, looking around at the roses with surprise.

"The whole house smells like potpourri." Max commented.

"Who are these for?" Becky asked.

"We don't know." Jackson shrugs. "I just let the delivery guy in and signed my mom's name."

DJ looks at him with wide eyes. "Wha...You signed my name?"

"Yeah," Jackson smiles. "I'm getting really good at it. Oh, and by the way, thanks for getting me out of gym class." DJ looked at him with disbelief.

Violet grimaces and nudges him. "Jax, that's probably something you shouldn't tell her."

"Gotta go." Jackson nervously said and walked out of the room.

Violet was now in the kitchen later that day, helping Jackson washing the dishes when Lola walked in with Ramona. Jackson perks up upon seeing Lola and smiles dreamingly at her. "Hey, Lola."

"Hey, dude." Lola waved at him and walked up the stairs.

"I'll be right there." Ramona calls after her and she stands by the counter, glancing at Jackson with sympathy. "Look, I know you like Lola, but the worst thing just happened."

Becky, who was also helping with washing the dishes, grins excitedly. "Ooh, more drama." She quickly walks over to where the teens were standing.

Jackson sets the dish and towel he held down and walks around the counter. He looks at Ramona with confusion. "What?"

"She called you 'dude', dude." Ramona told him.

Jackson shrugs. "So?"

"'Dude' means you've entered...The dreaded friendzone"." Ramona said dramatically.

"It's true." Becky nods. "'Bud', 'pal', 'dude'...Even 'amigo'." Ramona nodded and pointed at her in a sign of agreement.

Jackson's eyes widen. "She amigo-ed me yesterday! What do I do?"

"Once you're in the friendzone, you can never get out." Ramona replies. "It's like Alcatraz." Her eyes widen in realization. "Or IKEA."

"I don't think that's true." Violet chimes in. "I mean, it might seem like you can never get out, but if it turns out you both like each other then you can get out of the dreaded friendzone." She said, saying 'dreaded freindzone' dramatically like Ramona did.

"Violet is right." Becky agrees. "Just show her you wanna be more than friends. Girls love it when guys do something romantic."

"Ah, like all those roses in there?" Jackson questioned.

"Exactly." Becky nods. "What does Lola like?"

"Ooh! She wants her own horse." Ramona smiled.

"Oh, boy." Becky rolled her eyes and walked away.

"Yeah, it's gonna have to be something different than a horse." Violet commented and went back to washing the dishes.

"What else does she like?" Jackson asked.

"M&Ms." Ramona responded.

"Now we're talking." Jackson smiles. "I'll get her a thousand M&Ms."

Ramona points at him. "But only the red ones."

Jackson furrows his eyebrows. "But they all taste the same."

"Hey, Friendzone." Becky calls out to him. She raises his eyebrows at him. "You wanna be right or you wanna be happy?"

****

"Nine ninety seven, nine hundred and ninety nine, nine hundred and ninety nine." Jackson counts, groaning when he ran out of red M&Ms. "I'm one red short."

Jackson had been counting the red M&MS for the past few minutes. He had them all in a jar and on a notebook piece of paper he had wrote 'Do you want to hang out on Saturday? Check yes or no.' Violet sat on the chest in front of Max's bed, petting Cosmo, who stood by the chest.

Cosmo barks and Jackson smiles. "Oh, I'll hide a red Skittle." He picks up a red Skittle out of the Skittle bag and puts it in the jar. "She'll never know."

Violet chuckles. "She will whenever she eats it since Skittles don't have chocolate in them." She sighs. "Watching you count that candy made me hungry," She grins. "Can we get a snack?"

Jackson smiles. "Sure."

****

Violet and Jackson had left to get a snack, but when they came back they saw all the M&Ms and that one Skittle was gone and the question was marked yes. "Lola checked yes?" Jackson excitedly asks. He looks up with a grin. "Oh, thank you!" He checked his breath and then ran a hand through his hair.

Violet giggles as he then tries to psych himself up to go talk to Lola. Jackson rolls his eyes playfully. "Oh, shut up."

Violet follows Jackson to Ramona's room where Ramona and Lola were talking. "Hey, Boo." Jackson smiled at Lola.

Lola shares a confused look with Ramona before she looks back at Jackson. "Boo who?"

"Don't be sad, girl. J-money in the house." Jackson grins. "So, Lo-Lo, lookin' forward to Saturday?"

"Yeah, we were just talking about it." Lola replied.

Waving a dismissive hand, Jackson chuckles. "Oh, I bet you were." He smiles from ear to ear. "Gonna be off the chain, bae!"

"What year are you in?" Violet snickers. "I don't know of anyone who uses the term of endearment boo or bae for their significant other."

Jackson rolls his eyes and sends her a small glare. He then looks at Lola with an excited smile. "I can't wait."

"You can't wait to go to Sephora and try on makeup?" Ramona asked in a confused tone.

"What are you talkin' about?" Jackson furrows his eyebrows. "Lola and I are goin' to the Outback for a Bloomin' Onion."

Max runs into the room and grins at Jackson. "Jackson, there you are! I can't wait for Saturday!" Violet cringed and crossed her arms. She realized Max was the one who ate all the M&MS and that one Skittle along with signing the note. She felt bad for Jackson since he was looking forward to hanging out with Lola on Saturday and she had a feeling Jackson would be really upset with Max.

Jackson looks at Max with confusion and speaks in a high-pitched tone out of shock. "J-Money say what?"

"I got your note." Max explains. He hugs onto Jackson's arm and smiles widely. "You're the best brother ever!" He then ran out of the room. Violet wondered why Max was so full of energy, but after knowing ate a full jar of M&MS and one Skittle his behavior made a lot of sense.

Jackson drops his head in defeat and Violet grimaces when she noticed anger over taking his features. When he lifted his head back up, he forces a smile. "Um, excuse me. There's been a small misunderstanding."

After Jackson left the room, the girls were quick to follow him back to his and Max's shared room where Max was jumping up and down on Jackson's bed. "Max!" Jackson angrily said, glaring at his brother. "That note was not for you. It was for Lola. And so were the thousand red M&Ms."

Lola looks at him curiously. "How did you know I loved the red ones?"

"Oh." Jackson scoffs and smiles. "Everyone knows they're the best!"

Violet rolls her eyes and chuckles. Ramona crosses her arms and glances at Lola. "Plus I told him." Lola nodded in realization.

"So do you wanna hang out Saturday?" Jackson asked Lola in a hopeful tone.

"Sure." Lola smiled a bit.

"Hold it!" Max jumps off the bed and onto Jackson's back. Jackson stumbles slightly, but quickly regains his balance and holds onto his brother's legs so he doesn't fall. "We have plans Saturday." Max reminded him.

"Max," Jackson sighs. "I told you that note wasn't for you." He then set Max back on his bed.

"That changes nothing." Max tells him. "We have a signed contract."

"He's not wrong." Violet chimed in.

Max gets off the bed and Lola wraps her arms around him, smiling at Jackson. "It's okay. Max can come too. Saturday's a group hang at the mall which reminds me," She glances at Violet with a smile. "Ramona and I wanted to ask you if you wanted to join us."

Violet looks at her with surprise as a smile made its way to her lips. She didn't think that Lola would want her to come along since they weren't exactly close friends, but she was happy that Lola did wanted her to come along. "Yeah, I'd love to go with you guys. Thanks for asking."

"Yeah, so, me, Lola," Ramona wraps her arm around Violet's shoulders, sharing a smile with her. "Violet, and twelve of our best friends."

Jackson furrows his eyebrows. "So, I'm gonna go to the mall with Max, Ramona, Violet, and twelve other people?"

Lola nods. "Right."

Jackson looks at her hopefully. "But you'll be there too?"

With a shrug of her shoulders, Lola smiles. "Yeah."

"Sweet!" Jackson grinned.

Violet raises her eyebrows when Cosmo walked in, carrying Ramona's shoe in his mouth. Cosmo then sets the shoe by Max's bed. Ramona removes her arm from Violet, her eyes widening in disbelief. "Hey, that's my shoe!"

Cosmo runs out of the room while Ramona and Jackson lift up Max's bed, setting it to the side. Violet gasps when she saw all of the items Cosmo had been hiding under Max's bed. "Wow."

"Cosmo's a hoarder." Jackson said with disbelief.

"Hey, that's my One Direction pillow." Ramona notices, pointing at a pillow that had a picture of the boy band One Direction on it. Her friends look at her with amusement and she looks at them nervously. "I mean, no, it's not. But, um, I know who to return it to." She grabbed the pillow, holding it close as she smiled and closed her eyes while Lola chuckled, guiding her out of the room.

Jackson glances over at Violet when she sighed sadly. He smiles at her with amusement. "You want a pillow like that don't you?"

"I want it so badly." Violet admitted with a nod and Jackson chuckled.

Jackson then smiles widely and excitedly said, "Wow, I just can't believe it. I'm going out with Lola."

Max waves a dismissive hand. "Big deal. So am I."

Later that night, Violet was helping the adults (which consisted of DJ, Matt, Stephanie, Harry (who Violet found out was Stephanie's husband she had married when they were little kids), Fernando, and Kimmy with carrying the one thousand bouquet of roses to the rental car Jesse and Becky have. Soon enough they had them all put in the car which Violet was surprised about since she didn't think they all wouldn't fit in that car and Matt and Harry eventually left.

"Okay," Becky said as everyone was back in the living room, looking around to make sure all the roses were in the car. "Do we have them all?"

Jesse sighs heavily. "I hope so. I don't think anymore roses can fit in that car."

"Wait," DJ notices a small boquet of roses setting off to the side by the fireplace and she picks it up. "There's one more left." She raises her eyebrows when she noticed a card on it. "And there's a card."

"We already carried a thousand roses to the car." Stephanie looks tired, pointing at everyone. "Which was very tiring by the way." She furrows her eyebrows wtih confusion. "So why is there a bouquet left?"

"What does the card say?" Kimmy questioned.

DJ opens the card, her eyes widening with surprise and then she smiles, glancing over at the thirteen year old girl in the living room. "Violet, this is for you."

"What?" Violet inquired, staring at DJ with shock. Her lips were curling upwards as her heart flutters at the thought of someone getting her a bouquet of roses. No one has done something this sweet for her before and she loved it. It made her so happy and giddy that someone would do something this sweet for her. Her mind was running with questions as she walks over to DJ to look at the card. Who would send her a bouquet of roses and how did the person know roses were her favorite?

DJ hands her the bouquet of roses, smiling softly at her. Violet reads the card, giggling a bit when she read the cheesy poem that was on the card. "Well, what does it say?" Fernando speaks up, raising his eyebrows at Violet. He scoffs. "You can't expect us to go on with our lives without knowing who sent you the roses."

Violet chuckles, ignoring how her face was heating up while she read the card out loud. "It says 'roses are red. violets are blue. the stars shine bright but not as bright as you.'"

Everyone smiles at her and the women all awed. "That's so sweet." Becky commented.

"Yeah, yeah, so sweet." Stephanie waves a dismissive hand. She looks at Violet curiously. "The real question we all wanna know the answer is who gave you the card?"

"It didn't have a name on it. Just the initials RB." Violet responded, the smile on her lips widening. She had a feeling she knew who gave her the roses, but she didn't want to get her hopes up.

Jesse glances at everyone with confusion. "Anyone else know who RB is?" Everyone shook their heads in response.

A knock sounds on the door that had been left open, causing everyone to look over at the door to see Ryker standing there with a shy smile on his face. "That would be me."

Violet continues to smile widely and she sets the roses down on the coffee table before she walks over to him. "You got me the roses, Ryker?" He nodded in response and shyly smiled.

Jesse leans over to Becky to whisper, "Who's Ryker?"

"The boy Violet has a crush on." Becky whispered back to him so only he could hear and Jesse nodded in realization.

"Thank you, that's so sweet. Not that I'm complaining," Violet tilts her head to the side, looking at him curiously. "But why did you get me the roses?"

"Well, I remembered that you mentioned that they're your favorite type of flower and I wanted to do like a grand gesture thing." Ryker admits, chuckling nervously as he puts his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket and Violet's heart skip a beat because of the fact he remembered something like her favorite flower. Ryker's face heats up and he smiles shyly at her. "I wanted to do like a grand gesture thing because, well, I really like you." Violet's eyes widen and she stares at him with surprise before a grin made its way to her lips. She knew she was blushing a bright red now, but she didn't care. "And I know it's a little too soon so I completely understand if you say no, but I was wondering if you would want to go out with me sometime?"

"Yes," Violet immediately answers, earning a few chuckles from the adults watching the sweet scene. "A thousand times yes." She smiles softly at him. "If it wasn't obvious, I like you too Ryker. Like, a lot." She admitted with a small chuckle leaving her lips.

Ryker sighs with relief and his tense shoulders relax. He returns the soft smile. "Okay, good. 'Cause this would've been real awkward if you didn't like me back."

"For sure." Violet agrees and pulls him in for a hug. "Thanks again for the roses. I love them."

Ryker doesn't hesitate to hug her back, smiling widely. "You're welcome."

"Fernando are you crying?" Kimmy asked Fernando, staring at him with disbelief and slight amusement.

Fernando sniffles, wiping the tears from his eyes. "I can't help it. This was just so sweet and romantic."

A/N yay violet is going to go on her first date :)
