Chapter 5: The Sweetest Surprise

The morning sun filtered gently through the windows of the café, casting a soft glow over the tables. It was quieter than usual, the perfect atmosphere for Jimin to focus on his work. But today, his mind was occupied with thoughts of Jungkook.

After their last encounter, he couldn’t stop thinking about the way Jungkook looked at him—the soft glances, the easy smiles, and the subtle hints of something more in the air. Jimin could tell that Jungkook was starting to enjoy their time together, and maybe, just maybe, he was starting to feel the same way.

The door jingled, and Jimin immediately looked up, heart racing when he saw Jungkook walk in. His tall figure seemed to fill the room, his eyes scanning the space before landing on Jimin. That familiar smile spread across Jungkook’s face, and Jimin felt his pulse quicken.

“Hey,” Jungkook greeted, his voice warm and inviting as he made his way to the counter.

“Morning!” Jimin said brightly, his tone a little more nervous than he intended. He quickly composed himself, determined not to let his heart give away his feelings.

“Got anything new for me today?” Jungkook asked, resting his arms on the counter as he leaned in a little closer. His playful smile was back, and Jimin couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the thought of surprising him again.

Jimin pretended to think for a moment, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “Hmm… How about something sweet, something that’ll make your day even better?”

“Sweet, huh?” Jungkook smirked. “I like the sound of that.”

With a mischievous grin, Jimin turned to the coffee machine, his fingers lightly brushing against the cold metal as he prepared something special. This time, he was going for something extra sweet—like their growing connection.

As he worked, Jimin’s mind wandered, wondering how much longer it would be before they both realized what was slowly blossoming between them. He had never been good at reading people, but with Jungkook, it felt different. The way their conversations flowed effortlessly, the way they made each other laugh—it all felt so natural, so right.

He set the cup down in front of Jungkook with a flourish. “Here you go, one triple chocolate mocha with extra whipped cream. And don’t worry,” Jimin said with a teasing smile, “I made sure it’s sweet enough to match the moment.”

Jungkook’s eyes lit up as he picked up the cup, his face breaking into a grin. “Triple chocolate mocha, huh? You know the way to my heart.”

Jimin laughed softly. “I try,” he replied. “But, I gotta say, you’re pretty easy to please.”

Jungkook took a sip of the drink, his eyes closing for a moment in pure enjoyment. “Mmm, this is amazing. You’re definitely the best barista around here.”

Jimin’s heart fluttered at the compliment, but he didn’t let it show. “It’s just a little something to make your day better.”

“Yeah, well, it’s working,” Jungkook said, looking at Jimin with that soft, sincere gaze that always made Jimin feel like he was the only person in the room. “You always know how to make everything better.”

There it was again—the subtle hint that maybe Jungkook was starting to see him in a different light. Jimin’s mind raced, but he kept his composure. He was starting to realize that, maybe, this was more than just playful teasing. Maybe this was the start of something real.

“I’m glad you think so,” Jimin said softly, his voice quieter than usual. He didn’t want to push anything too fast, but he couldn’t help feeling a little more vulnerable than he was used to. “I really enjoy our time together.”

Jungkook’s expression softened, and he took a step closer to the counter, leaning in slightly. “Me too,” he said quietly, his voice low but warm. “I like spending time with you, Jimin. It’s… easy. And fun.”

Jimin felt his cheeks heat up at the words. He could feel his heart hammering in his chest as he tried to calm his nerves. Was Jungkook really saying what Jimin thought he was saying?

“Yeah, it’s like we’ve known each other forever, even though it’s only been a little while,” Jimin said, trying to keep his voice steady.

Jungkook nodded, a soft smile on his lips. “Exactly. It feels like we’ve always been this close. I don’t know, it’s kind of nice.”

Jimin’s heart skipped a beat at the sincerity in Jungkook’s words. There it was—the confirmation that Jungkook was starting to feel what Jimin had been feeling too.

A comfortable silence settled between them, but it was a good kind of silence—the kind where neither of them needed to fill the space with words because they both understood what was being said without having to say much at all.

Finally, Jungkook broke the silence with a small chuckle. “You know, I’ve got to admit, I was kind of hoping you’d surprise me again today.”

Jimin raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “Oh? You want more surprises?”

Jungkook grinned. “Always.”

Jimin’s pulse quickened at the thought of what to say next. His mind raced, but then it hit him—something spontaneous, something bold.

“Alright then,” Jimin said, leaning in a little closer, his voice soft but teasing, “If I were a cat, would you pet me?”

Jungkook blinked, surprised at the unexpected question, before bursting into laughter. “A cat? Are you serious?”

“Hey, it’s just a thought,” Jimin said with a smirk, feeling his cheeks flush at the ridiculousness of it all. “But you know, I’m always open to new ideas.”

Jungkook shook his head, still chuckling. “You’re impossible, Jimin,” he said fondly, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

“Impossible? Nah,” Jimin said with a cheeky grin. “I’m just full of surprises. You’ve got to keep up.”

Jungkook’s smile softened into something a little more tender. “Trust me, I’m starting to really enjoy keeping up with you.”

And in that moment, Jimin felt something shift—a small, sweet feeling that made him believe that maybe, just maybe, this was the start of something special. Something that could be more than just sweet coffee and playful pickup lines.
