"Oh, that's just sad..." I wince as Reggie walks out of the elevator doors, looking so unsure and out of place while every single one of his kids was glaring at him. Five moved to see what I was talking about and break his conversation with Viktor who was sitting down next to me, the three of us watching as our dad walked to the bar to grab a glass of champagne and a plate of food. "Oh god." he soon walks to an empty table by himself. "Please don't make me feel bad for him." I mumble out, quickly taking away the glass of alcohol from Five and setting it next to Viktor.
"(y/n)..." he whines softly and Viktor chuckles in his glass.
"Later. You and I had a couple glasses straight in the last hour!" Five grumbles and eats his fruit.
Mans just eating grapes with a knife and fork!?
I snort lightly, choking on my drink softly as I try to stifle my laughter. I avoid looking at Reggie as he was looking around, pushing the food around my plate with a fork.
"I feel bad, like I really feel bad for the guy. Why do I feel bad!?" I throw my hands up in exasperation and Viktor and Five laugh.
"Yeah, when I say we all have daddy issues, that includes you too." Five points a fork at me and I swat it away from my face. "You want to talk to him."
"Yeah, I kinda want to know what he's gonna say about me." I look over at Reggie to see him talking to Diego and Lila, a proud look on his face.
You know what. If I never got my real dad to be proud of me, why not get it from my fictional dad who isn't my actual dad but my Doppel's father.
"Let's go. I want to talk to him and I don't want to go alone." I grab Five's hand and I tug him along with me.
"What no-" we stop in front of Reggie and he smiles at us both. "Dad."
"Hey, Reginald..." I wave shyly and he nods at us two.
"Five and (y/n)." he says my name warmly and I raise a brow at him. "How are you both?"
"Couldn't be better old man." Five answers as well and I sigh at the awkwardness.
"Um ok." I say. "What about you?" he looks around and I notice the siblings still looking away from him.
"Not much I can do as you can see. When your children does not even want to acknowledge your presence."
"Yeah..." I mumble out and Reggie looks at me.
"Please excuse me if this is out of line but I am amazed at how much you have grown up (y/n)." I look at the old man in surprise. "Even though you may not be my daughter by flesh and blood, I'll always consider you my child in any timeline." My heart jumped at that and I wondered if Reggie actually cared about my Doppel, like he actually was worried about her and loved her as a daughter.
Or maybe this was a ruse...
"You have made me proud. I always hoped I may have walked you down the aisle..." Reggie whispers as he looks down at Five's and I hand that held each other and I look at my boyfriend with wide eyes. He looks shocked as well. "Look after her Five." he nods at his dad.
"I will, always." he says and I don't know if it was the alcohol in my system but I hug Reggie, suddenly feeling emotional. He freezes from my action but I tear up when I feel him hug me back gently, smoothing my hair softly.
It's been so long... since my dad actually hugged me...
"Thank you..." I whisper before pulling back, trying not to cry. Five takes me away back to out table, kissing my head.
"How do you feel?"
"Like I finally made up with my dad..." The both of us sit down again, sudden feedback whirring and everyone looks to the front to see Reginald holding a mic and about to give a customary speech to the bride and groom.
"Sloane, ever since you were a little girl, I've always known you were exceptionally bright. And though I can't say I know Luther all that well, from the few moments we have shared, it seems you found yourself an adequate partner."
"He just called Luther adequate." Five and I snicker lightly, taking a glass to drink."
"I acknowledge that, as a father, I was not without my faults. I hope these shortcomings will be seen as only a rough patch on an otherwise verdant lawn." Reggie says and I hope he meant it. "I'm proud to call you my children. Even those whom I raised in a revenant version of myself and to those who came into our lives from another world." Reggie looks at me and raises his glass for me. "I hope that tonight we can create a few special memories in whatever precious little time we have left." Everyone listened solemnly and I lean my head on Five's shoulder as he held me close, holding my hand.
While Reggie was giving his poem, I look over to see Viktor crying while Allison shoved past him and I get up to go to him. I pull him into a tight hug, looking at Viktor who frowned sadly as he sniffled against my shoulder and hugged me back. Reggie ended his speech and everyone clapped, Chet soon playing some more lively music for everyone.
"Hey," I lean down to look at Viktor, wiping his tears away. "The ones that love you are here, they are here and are waiting for you to join them so why don't we go and dance? What do you say?" Viktor nods, a small smile on his face and I pull him onto the dancefloor where everyone else was dancing.
I spun him around happily and he laughs, the both of us moving to dance with the rest of the siblings as we jumped to the music and did crazy dance moves. I look over at Five and wave him over, him finishing off a bottle before walking over and spinning me around under his arm. We all bounced and sang out loud to the lyrics, having the time of our lives and I get hit with a sense of sadness.
I didn't want this to end...
I push away my feelings, stealing a bottle of alcohol from Klaus and finishing it off.
I didn't want to feel sad anymore.
I smiled through the tears, dancing with the girls as we spun each other around before dancing with each other boys. I laugh as Diego sweeps me around in his arms and Luther picks me up like a doll to spin me around in his arms. Klaus and Ben mucked around with me with goofy moves, shaking our butts to the beat. I laugh seeing Luther and Viktor run at each other to bump chests before they hugged and sang together.
I moved to sit down on a table to watch the family enjoy their time together and my heart hurt.
They all were so happy.
I lean over to grab another bottle, trying to push back the clawing sadness as I drank the burning alcohol.
I just needed it to stop.
Chet suddenly started playing a soft melody, the music drifting across the ballroom and the family started pairing off to dance together. Five turned around and he saw me at the table, making me raise a brow as he put down his drinks on a table and walks over to me with his hand out for me.
"We went for a drive, 2:30 in the morning. I kissed you, it was pouring."
"This is going to be a cliche isn't it?" I chuckle and he rolls his eyes with a smile, putting down my drink as well on the table.
"You love cliches." Five takes hold of my hand, squeezing it gently a few times as he leads me backwards onto the dance floor.
"We held each other tight before the night was over. You looked over your shoulder."
"You're not wrong." I smile as he pulls me into his arms, moving my hands around his neck as he wrapped his around my waist. I step closer, his nose nuzzling against mine and he smiled brightly. Five swayed us together to the song, moving side by side as we held each other and leaned his forehead on mine. There wasn't anyone else other than us, no one else than just being here in the moment him.
"Oh, I was doing fine. You said, 'Remember that night? Remember that night?'"
This was everything I could ever want.
Five looks at me softly before leaning down to kiss me. It was soft and gentle, almost delicate as I moved my lips against his. There was no sense to rush as he rubbed his thumbs against my bare lower back beneath the strings, one of my hands moving down his chest to rest over where his heart would be.
"Oh, I was doing fine. You said, 'Remember that night? Remember that night?'"
I could feel his heart race and I knew he could feel the same with mine, the both of us leaning back to break the kiss with a smile. "I love you (y/f/n)..." Five whispers to me and I look at him happily.
"I love you too Five Hargreeves..." I move to lay my head on his chest, his chin resting on top of mine as we just danced together for the rest of the night.
