Ever since we got back from our Italy trip, it being cut short from whatever phone call Five got that made him worried, he has been acting cold. As soon as we got back home, he started acting cold and distant, more... vague and secretive. I made me feel sad seeing him back to his stoic and pragmatic ways like in the first season, back to keeping to himself and holding the weight of the world on his shoulders.
I could see how tired he was, his shoulders sagged from this invisible weight and I could see him turning back to his old habits with the unhealthy all nighters and coffee drowning.
It hurt to see him suffer again. I wanted him to tell me what's wrong, to hopefully feel like he was comfortable enough to share his secrets with me, to share whatever it was he was hiding from me. I understand people hide things from others to not hurt them, everyone has a right to keep things to themselves. But I would never get mad at him no matter what it is... I hope he knows that.
I frown as I hear the front door open, looking up from the couch to see Five walk in at almost 2 in the morning. "Five...?" I whisper and he looks up at me in surprise, a frown on his face.
"Why are you up? It's late."
"I was waiting-"
"-go to sleep (y/n)." His tone may be a little sharp but I knew he meant well. I stood up and save my work, putting my laptop on charge before walking over to him to help him take his coat off. He flinches lightly but lets me pull it off to hang it up.
"What's wrong? What's happening Five?"
"Nothing-"
"-you're growing distant from me..." I whisper sadly and I see the hurt in his eyes.
"I... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to, my love." He whispers, holding my cheeks.
"Five... whatever it is... I won't be mad. You know that. I know all of you and I never hated you once for it." I tell him and he softens, a look of realisation on his face and he nods.
"Alright. How about tomorrow after I come back from work. It's a half day... I'll tell you everything. For now, let's get you to bed, sweetheart." He takes my hand and leads me back to bed, tucking me in and kissing my forehead. "I love you so much (y/n)."
"I love you too Five." I yawn sleepily as soon as my head hits the pillow. "Hurry..." I ask him to hurry up and wash off to change into his pjs and get in bed with me. He laughs softly and does just that, nestling behind me and hugging me close to his chest as he presses kisses on my shoulder.
"Go to sleep, my love. I've got you."
The next morning I was alone again and it made me sad. It was like that for last month or so. It was rare to see a Five in the morning nowadays, and even harder to see him at night when he comes home really late like he did last night. I sit up and check the time to see it was after noon, yawning and getting up to head to the bathroom to freshen up and brush my teeth. I walk out of the bedroom after and I see plates of food waiting for me on the dining table, smiling at the thought that my sweet assassin cooked for me before he went to work. My heart warmed and I reheat my tea to drink with the breakfast he left me, packing the rest away in the fridge to eat later on. I suddenly hear the door unlock and peak over to see Five walk in with bags in hand and my heart jumps in excitement when I get to see him in broad daylight after so long.
"Five!" He looks at me with a beaming smile. "You're still here!"
"Of course, my love. I just went to go do some shopping so I could cook." He chuckles setting the bags down on the tiles before kissing my cheek.
"But work-"
"-I still have some time before I need to head off. Now go eat." He pats me off to eat.
I hum softly as I watched Five roam around the kitchen cooking while I sipped my tea and ate my brunch on the couch, admiring the way his hair fell over his eyes or the way his shirt hitched up when he reached for the ingredients in the upper cupboards.
I missed this.
I could see the faint smile on his face when he turns his back to me, letting me enjoy his lithe and lean figure with that broad shoulders and that skinny slutty waist of his.
God, I wish I had that waist too...
"Take a picture sweetheart. It'll last longer." I blush as Five turns to look at me, a cocky smirk on his face and I quickly look away.
"I wasn't looking." I mutter out against my cup, peering back at my sweet assassin as he leaned back against the counter.
"Sure you weren't. Not like I couldn't feel your eyes roam over me." He faked stretching, letting me catch a peak of his v-line while smirking at me.
"You do the same with me!" I exclaim with red cheeks as he runs his eyes up and down my body.
"And it's an absolute pleasure of mine that only I can have." he purrs lowly and I shudder, a flash of heat shivering down my spine.
I stand up and stretch when I finish my tea, the hem of my nightgown falling down my legs and I raise a brow as I see Five staring at me. I pad towards the kitchen to put my cup in the sink, moving to wrap my arms around my boyfriend's bare waist beneath his shirt to hug him from behind when he turned back around to make his coffee after he finishes cooking. He chuckles lightly as I rub my face in the middle of his spine between his shoulder blades.
I run my fingers across his waist, feeling his abs and his stomach which makes him shudder beneath my touch. "The phone call you had in Italy... Are you going to help them?" I whisper against his shirt and I know Five knew who I meant. He was quiet for a few seconds and I tiptoe up to lean my chin on his shoulder, looking at his blank expression. "If you want to help them we can-"
"-no." I blink at his quick response, stepping to the side to see him clearly. His eyes were dark with anger and his jaw clenched, chucking the spoon into the sink in spite behind him.
"Five-"
"-they lost their chance. I'm done. I just want a normal life. I'm not getting involved with them or the old man or anything related to being a super. I'm not helping them." Five sighs out heavily and I move to hold his hand to let him know that he wasn't alone anymore.
"Whatever choice you make, I won't go anywhere. I'm with you till the end." I smile up at him and he looks at me softly with relief, leaning his forehead on mine. I bump my nose with his happily as he brushes his fingers against my cheeks, running them down my arm to hold my waist before pulling me close to him and kissing me.
"You're the only one that stayed," he whispers against my lips, squeezing my hips lightly as he steps closer and pins me against the counter. "the only one that didn't leave me on purpose..." he breathes heavily as he looks down at me, his other hand holding my cheek and I lean up to kiss him sweetly.
"We always find ourselves back to each other and I wouldn't have it any other way." I mumble against him, the both of us smiling in the kiss as I hold his cheeks gently in my hands.
"What did I do to deserve you?" Five sighs dreamily, a bright smile on his face before he steps back from me to look at all of me. He runs his eyes over my body, the way the thin fabric loosely hung around me and my curves nicely, the long sleeves hiding my wrists from his eyes just enough.
"You didn't have to do anything. I've loved you since the beginning." I wink at him before walking away leaving him blushing as I dropped back down on the couch to watch TV. My sweet assassin joins me soon after, settling down next to me and I move to lay down with my head on his lap. He brushes my hair away from my face, leaning down to kiss my cheek every now and then while he rubbed my hips soothingly which soon slowly lulls me to sleep.
I don't know how long it's been but I jolt up awake on the couch when I hear knocking, sitting up and looking around sleepily to see the house empty so I figured Five went to work. I become alert again when I hear the knocking in our front door becoming louder.
Five...?
Did he forget his key again?
I wait, checking my phone to see that I haven't gotten a text from him to open the door so it wasn't him knocking. The knocking started again and I furrow my brows, standing up and walking towards the door silently.
"Who is it!?" I call out.
"Is this (y/n)?"
Now, why was this familiar?
"Depends on what you want!?"
"We need to talk to her-"
"-ok but who is it!?" I snap back, not opening the door without an identification.
"Crazy lady! Just open the door please!" I freeze in my spot, my body unmoving as the nickname shot through my head and sent shivers down my spine.
No fucking way!?
I quickly turn back to the door, unlocking it and swinging the door open. My eyes shot wide open to see Luther, Diego and Lila. They all looked so much older, so more... human-like and tired. Tired in a sense of a happy kind of tired like they were actually living life for once.
"(Y/n)! It's actually you!" Luther gasps as he pushes his family aside to hug me, picking me up and spinning me around before I get set back down on my feet. "Five actually managed to find you! I'm so happy he did! Who have no idea how long he had been looking for you-"
"What are you doing here?" my question cuts through Luther's happy smile which falters and I frown that I made him sad but I wasn't happy that the family was here after 5 years of leaving Five behind.
"We know Five is here." Luther says. "Please, we need both of your help-"
"-no." I slam the door in their faces and they start knocking again. I hold off a few seconds, growing furious as I open the door again. "You left him! You all left him! Again! He didn't need any more of his own family to leave him behind but you all did!" I hiss out, sneering at the siblings. And the fact that not all of them were here hurt even more.
Where's Allison, Viktor, Ben and Klaus?
"And we're sorry. We know it was wrong of us but we wanted to start our own lives..." Diego says and I shake my head.
"5 years. None of you bothered to reach out to Five or tried to find him! None of you contacted him, or even went back to him that night at the park! YOU ALL LEFT HIM!" I yell at them and they flinch back.
"And what about him!?" Diego exclaims. "He didn't reach out either! It works both ways (y/n)!" He sighs softly, calming down and I blink at him with a frown. "Look... just where is he? We need to talk to him."
"He's not here." I grit out.
"We know he lives here-"
"-you've been stalking us!?" I snap at Lila. "You know what, I don't care! He's not here!"
"Please, if you could just listen-"
"-you listen here," I cut of Luther. "don't fucking come to us anymore. Whatever the fuck is going on, whatever problem you have with Reginald, whatever apocalypse shit is going on, we're done. We're through! We aren't going to help you anymore! You lost that privilege! Five just wants to live a normal life now, to grow old without any more time-related problems and I am going to make sure he gets his happy ending without you fucking lot ruining it for him!"
"(y/n) we're so sorry-"
"-your apologies don't mean fucking shit to me! I'm not the one you should apologise to. You fucked yourself over cause we're not helping you! And I won't tell you where he is even if I knew!"
"So he's at work? At the CIA right now?" Diego asks quickly and I freeze, gripping the doorway tightly. I look at him with wide eyes and he purses his lips like he said something he wasn't supposed to from the way I looked at him. "(Y/n) wait-"
"-get the fuck out of my apartment building!" I scream at them, slamming the door shut in their faces again and locking it before heading back to the living room. I started pacing, wondering what Diego meant if Five was at the CIA.
He... he's works at the CIA? He's an agent? He lied to me about being a professor...?
I sit down in the couch, heart broken that he couldn't tell me that.
He lied to me...?
"What did you want to talk about, my love?" Five asks me and I glance at him with a soft frown as we took a walk through a park. It was a lively spring night, the second month into the season so it wasn't too cold or too hot. I asked my boyfriend if we could go on a walk to talk and I think he could sense that something was wrong.
Ever since Diego mentioned his brother working at the CIA, I gave Five months to tell me the secret he wanted to tell me but he never did. Not once did he sit me down to talk to me about why he was distant from me and was cold when we got back from our vacation. I gave him the time to open up to me but now I needed to let him know that I knew.
"(Y/n)-"
"-why didn't you tell me you work at the CIA?" He stops when I said this, turning to look at me with a frown and he realised this walk wasn't going to be peaceful. His arms that were around my waist slowly fell back to his sides with a guilty look on his face, his hand rubbing the back of his neck and he sighs.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you (y/n)."
"But why didn't you?" I lean over to look at his face and he looks so down and upset.
"I... I didn't want to disappoint you..." my heart aches and I hold his cheeks to have him look at me properly.
"Why would I be disappointed? I would never be disappointed in you."
"You just... you were so happy about me being a professor and the promotion, that I was finally living a normal life-"
"-you didn't want to tell me you fell back on old habits..." I mutter when I realise and he nods. "But the whole professor thing and the promotion-"
"all true! I swear they are. I studied first before becoming an agent and sometimes use that as my cover on missions."
Five blinks at me when I smile at him. "So you never lied."
"I did-"
"-you didn't. You're still a professor even alongside being an agent. I'm not mad at you. I would never be mad at you. I hope you know that Five."
"(y/n), I'm sorry I didn't tell you-"
"-honey I know but I didn't think, after being trapped with the Commission... you would want to work in a similar organisation like that again." Five understood where I was coming from and sighed.
"I thought so too but... its where I'm most comfortable, where my skills can actually be put to use. With superpowers or not."
I nod as I run my fingers over his coat, patting down his collar before holding his hands in mine. "Makes sense. Old habits die hard." He scoffs dryly and agrees. "Are you ok though? You're safe when you go on your missions? You don't get hurt?" my love squeezes my hands back hearing how I started to worry about him, worried about him being shot at or targeted by people who are out to hurt him.
He holds my cheeks to make me look at him, my voice falling silent as I stop asking my questions about his wellbeing. "(y/n)... I'm perfectly fine and well. Better now then ever." He kisses me sweetly and I sigh against his lips as I kiss him back. "Believe it or not, I'm not a reckless agent. I know without my powers I need to be careful for my life. And now that I have you, I swear I will be extra cautious so I can come back to you every time."
I smile at him. "Is that so Mr. Timejumper? You haven't forgotten about the fact you hid your bullet wound in season 1, turning back time to save everyone after being riddled with bullets in season 2, and don't forget you supposed to having your left arm severed in season 3-"
"-you love to keep track, don't you." my sweet assassin grins, his thumb brushing over my lips.
"Just... be careful now. More than ever ok. I just got you back." His eyes move away from my lips to look at me as he hears the worried tone in my voice and he nods.
"I promise you sweetheart." He kisses my forehead before pulling me to snuggle on his chest.
"Did our brother grow up or what? Look how cute they are!" Five and I quickly bristle, leaning back and I see his gaze darken instantly. He clenched his jaw and we turn to unfortunately face the last people we ever wanted to talk to.
"I would say it's great to see you but I would be straight out lying through my teeth." My sweet assassin grits out, the both of us facing Diego and Luther.
"Hey (y/n)..." Luther smiles and I give the brothers a blank look which makes them frown lightly.
"I said no." I quickly say, knowing what they were going to ask us about.
"(y/n), Five please, we need your help-"
"-did you not hear my girlfriend? We said no." Five snaps, cutting off his brothers and they frown.
"I know but we can't do this without you-"
"-you don't need me. You never needed me. I was just a liability to all of you! Plus, what use would I even be to you? I have no powers so I'm just useless to you!" I hiss out at them, cutting them off. "Let me live my life now, please. I'm begging you."
"Whatever it is you came begging on your knees for, you're going to keep doing because we're not helping you." Five hisses, looking down at his brothers. "Now leave before I send you crawling back to the others. My girlfriend and I will be living out our normal lives together." he threatens, quickly holding my hand and tugging me away. I glanced at my boyfriend every now and then, heart fluttering at how determined he looked with him grinding his jaw and trying not to lash out.
Kinda hot actually.
We walked back home in silence, me letting Five cool down with the spring air around us until I start tugging him in a different direction away from our house and towards his favourite cafe, knowing it would help lift his mood. "Do you want anything?" I ask him and he shakes his head
"I'd rather you make your coffee for me. You know how to make it right." My love mumbles out against my head from behind me after I pulled him to stand in line with me, smiling at his affection that he tried to keep on the down low amongst strangers. He hooked his pinky around mine, standing close to my side while trying to look uninterested in everything while I ordered some sweets for us to take home. Sweets I knew he absolutely adored from this cafe. I hand the bag to Five once I got the sweets, the both of us walking out and I snicker as I see him sneak a peak at what was inside.
Boy ironically loves his sweets.
"(Y/n)." I hum to let him know I was listening.
"With the whole CIA thing... let me make it up to you-"
"-Five no, you don't need to-" he takes hold of my hand tightly and looks at me sadly, that guilt still hanging around him in his sad eyes.
"Please... I want to make it up to you."
I sigh knowing he wasn't going to take no for an answer. "Alright, ok." I nod and he smiles brightly, his mood lifting even more than his favourite sweets.
He leans down to kiss my forehead gently. "I love you (y/n)."
"I love you too, my favourite assassin."
