I shivered against the cold winds as we walked down the road, the night oddly being empty as the Hargreeves and I searched for a place to settle down first before we dove to action. Five held me up as I clutched my stomach to try and stop the bleeding, putting pressure in fear of losing even more blood then I already had. He drapes his blazer over my shoulders and I look at him firstly, worry in his eyes as he purses his lips and looks around before disappearing. Diego and Klaus caught me, everyone wondering where the smallest brother went until he came back with a shirt spurt of blue crackling.
"There's an empty medical store towards our right." He gasps out softly, wiping off the sweat on his forehead and I realise he had been jumping around to look for a place for us. We all head that way, not without Five picking up a newspaper on the way. Once we got to the empty medical store, Diego picked the lock and quickly ushered everyone inside. He closes the door behind him and closes the blinds as Allison quickly goes to find medical equipment to patch me up and fixes my wound.
"Five, what is it?" Klaus asks, noticing him furrowing his brows as he read the paper.
"This is it. The apocalypse is still on. The world ends today."
"I thought you said it was over!" Luther exclaims and I sneer at him.
"I was wrong ok? This is the newspaper, I found in the future the day I got stuck. The headline hasn't changed."
"No, that doesn't mean anything. Does it?" Diego looks at me as I flickered in and out of existence, hissing in pain as Allison had to restitch me up. It was taking longer than it was supposed to but she manages to wrap a gauze around me tightly before I look at Diego sadly. "No, the time could've been altered since that newspaper came out this morning." I shake my head and he falters in defeat.
"When I found it, I assumed this place came down along with everything else." Five says. "But here we are. The moons still shining, the earth is in one piece, but not the academy."
"He's right..." I wince out while Five blinks away and comes back with a handful of clean clothes for me that he probably stole from a nearby shop somewhere, passing him his blazer back after. "Vanya destroys the academy before the apocalypse." I sigh out and everyone looks at me in shock.
"Harold Jenkins was the fuse and Vanya was the bomb..." Five tells his family.
"Vanya causes the apocalypse." I wince out and everyone looks at me when I was about to lift up my shirt. "Look away! Shoo!" all the physically grown men look away but Five stares at me for a bit longer before looking away.
"We have to find her." Luther mumbles out as I change my disgusting clothes into the fresh ones, Allison cleaning me up with a damp cloth Five also managed to steal.
"I'm so sorry (y/n)." she whispers to me as she carefully wiped my face clean of any blood, her hands shaking.
"I know. It's ok." Allison nods with a faint smile as she helped me back on my feet.
"We gotta go." Luther pipes up and Five rushes over to me, picking me up again bridal style before I could even move an inch.
I gasp when he lifts me up, simply walking out of the building and I hold onto him tightly so I don't fall. "You're going to be tired carrying me all the way to the bowling alley." I try to get out of his arms as he walked with his family to their destination.
"You need to rest. I can't let you walk with that wound." he holds onto me tightly and I sigh out in defeat, exhaustion finally catching up to me when I start feel drowsy. The family was quiet as everyone was in their own worlds.
"Is (y/n) here?" Diego asks from behind Five and I grumble softly.
"And I'm invisible again. You'd expect that every time Vanya uses her powers, I can stay visible but it only lasts for a while." he looks at me with his brows furrowed and I look at him in confusion. "What? You didn't know how this was happening to me with soundwaves being just vibrating particles? Since Vanya can kinda control particles and matter, she can also decide for me to be visible since we're all made of particles and matter. I thought you were an intellectual Five." I chuckle softly as I mocked him playfully and he grins at me.
"No, I already knew that. I'm just surprised you knew." I gasp at the stab.
"For your information, I took Physics in year 11 and 12! I understand a thing or two!"
Who am I kidding, this was common sense and I got the lowest score out of the class for my HSC.
And there was only 5 of us in that class!
"For the record, I hated my Physics class." Five chuckles lowly, playfully rolling his eyes at me
"You wouldn't hate it if you knew what your teacher was teaching you." I open my mouth but close it again, mind blank with no idea of a snarky remark since I was too damn tired.
"Yeah, you're probably right." It was silent again and I hesitantly wrap my arms around his neck, him stiffing up from my touch but relaxes and lets me lay my head on his chest.
"You should sleep. You need to heal properly." I nod softly, closing my eyes.
"I'm not too heavy for you am I?" I yawn out and I hear Five scoff.
"Never. I'm stronger than I look (y/n)." I hum out, blushing when I feel him squeeze me tight. I open my eyes to look up at him and he tuts, urging me to go back to sleep and I finally do.
"Bullshit. There's always options."
"Yeah, like what?"
I groan softly as I get startled awake from the annoying sound of loud pins and echoed thumping, burrowing my head against the warmth to try and block out the light that was pissing me off. I had this blinding headache that made everything hurt just that much worse, rubbing my head when I feel someone stop me.
I open my eyes and look up tiredly to see Five brushing my hair back before he rubbed the sides of my head with the heel of his palm. "You're dehydrated. And you need to eat." He furrows his brows and I falter in bliss, ignoring Klaus showing his family the newspaper since he found Vanya in it and where she would be. Five stops and leans over to pass me a bottle of water and I down the whole thing empty. "Better?"
"Fuck yeah..." I breathe out and he laughs softly.
"I hate to intrude, but my manager says if you're not gonna bowl, you gotta leave." I groan from the sharp headache coming back again, interrupted by some annoying bitch and their whiny voice.
I jump from the sudden loud thumping and I turn around when I see Luther throw a bowling ball. "What the fuck!? Bowling balls actually bounce!?" I sit up straight, seeing the hard ball bounce a few times in someone else's lane before hitting all the pins and earning a strike.
"That's one way to get someone to wake up." Klaus snickers and I glare at him, rubbing my eyes to get rid of the sleep when I hear a low groan and I turn to look at Five as he quickly clears his throat. He looks away with a blush and I look down to finally notice I was in his lap and I turn red, remembering what happened last I was in his lap.
Why's this bitch all blushy and shy now!?
"Uh-" I try to get up from his lap but I gasp when he quickly pulls me back down, wrapping his arms around me tightly and pulls me close. He holds me tight to his chest, laying his head on top of mine as it rested on his chest hesitantly. My eyes were wide in shock from his actions, holding his sweater in my fists.
"Awww, look at the lovebirds! Five can't get enough of you!" Klaus grins at me and I glare at him as he clapped his hands. I couldn't fight against the warmth and I melted in Five's arms, laying my head on his shoulder as I moved to wrap my arms around his waist.
He's so warm.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he had a downstairs issue like last time-" I shush Klaus quickly in fear of the family questioning him and he gasps at me while feigning hurt.
"Did you just shush me!?"
"Yes, I did now shhh." Five squeezes my body as I curled into him, listening into his family trying to make a plan of action.
"We have a responsibility to Dad." Luther says.
"To Dad? No, I've heard enough about-" Diego starts but the big ape cuts him off.
"-he sacrificed everythingto bring us back together."
"I'm with Luther on this one." This immediately makes me shoot up, glaring at Five.
"No-"
"-(y/n), we can't give her a chance to fight back. There are billions of lives at stake. We're past trying to save just one-"
"-Five no, not like this-"
"-hey, you know, guys, uh... maybe I could help." Klaus says but I ignore him as I get up from Five and walk off away from him, annoyed when I could hear him follow me.
He stops me and holds my arm so I couldn't walk away any further. "(y/n)-"
"-you won't at least try to help your sister!?" I hiss, shaking his grip off my arm but he holds me tight and pulls me close. I hiss from the tight grip, looking up at him as he narrowed his eyes at me and held my jaw tight in his hand.
"We have come too close to the end now to start risking our chances. Vanya is my sister but I cannot risk losing this world, losing you." I falter from his words, my head and heart reeling from all the mixed signals. Five was cold and his actions were hurtful but his words were sweet and reassuring... and I didn't know what to think or do. He moves to hold my chin, loosening his grip on me. "Do you understand me? I cannot leave this up to chance anymore, not when I know I can stop this apocalypse. I know you won't tell me but at least help us." He finally lets me go and steps back, holding a hand out for me.
"Can't you just try?" I mumble out but Five doesn't waver his stance and I nod slowly, holding his hand and letting him pull me back to his family when they started talking about Klaus' new abilities.
Five and I sat back down next to each other this time as Klaus told his family about Ben. "In fact, the real hero... was Ben." I look behind The Boy to see the hero standing there and I raise a hand, hi-fiving him.
"Nice bro." I nod and he grins at me.
"Today, he punched me in the face. And earlier at the house, he was the one who saved Diego's life, not me." Klaus exclaims when his family-other than Five-doesn't believe him.
"He's telling the truth." The Boy sitting next to me repeats my words and everyone looks at Klaus in surprise. "Don't try to prove it 'cause you're not mentally strong yet to make Ben physical for a specific period of time. You will very soon though." Klaus grins happily, jumping in the air.
"Excuse me!" A random woman suddenly walks up to us with her kid and Allison and Luther then decide to dip on the rest of us. "Excuse me, it's my son Kenny's birthday today, and... uh... wouldn't your son be happier playing with kids his own age?"
I snort out and Five glares at me. "How does it feel to know some mum is asking a lonely 18-year-old to their kid's birthday?"
"Assuming it's ok with your two dads." I burst out laughing after the woman said that to Klaus and Diego who looked horrified, wincing when I stretch my wounds.
I should not be laughing
"I would rather chew off my own foot." I mimic Five and Klaus giggles as he glares at the two people until they leave.
"You must be rather hungry to consider eating yourself. Thought you might send those two back to the prehistoric age instead." I chuckle and Five leans back in his seat before he turns his head to look at me silently. I do the same, smiling at him before I stretch and yawn in my seat. I blink my eyes open in surprise when I feel his fingers brush against my cheek, a soft look in his eyes like he was daydreaming as his thumb ran over my jaw. "Five?" I whisper bashfully, his other hand moving to hold onto my hand that rested on my lap. I wanted to move back, put space between our faces that were incredibly close but I was frozen, shocked and in awe of his beauty like he had some sort of power over me.
We quickly jump away from each other when we hear a loud whoosh, turning to the next lane over when we see a soft blue glow and I furrow my brows in confusion at how the Handler could have possible still been able to track us.
The tracker is on Herb, so how...?
Five gets up to retrieve the tube and I get up carefully to peer over his shoulder as he cracks the fortune cookie open to read the message. "Don't go." I quickly pull him back before he could disappear. "It's a trap for you to be away from your family. She's just stalling time and telling you about how all the briefcases were destroyed along with all the high skilled commission drones. She offers you a choice of skipping to the apocalypse with a low chance she comes to find you after a couple decades to offer you a job or you die with your family at the end of the world. Her words, not mine."
"That bitch..." The Boy hisses, crumbling the note in his hands and throws it away.
"We need a plan." I look over Luther and Allison who came back as Diego went off at them about bringing us all on the same page or something.
"Oh shit." I look past the arguing adults to see guys from The Commission filter into the bowling alley.
Five turns around to see what I was looking at and rolls his eyes in annoyance that he could not get one day of peace. "For fucks sake..."
"Fucking duck!" I scream out, jumping away and ducking for cover as Five pulls us behind shelf for cover. I hiss as I slam my back against the floor, him hovering above me. "We need to stop ending up like this in situations like this."
"I kind of like it." he muses as he looks down at me with a smirk, flinching from the bullets and covering our heads which makes him lean down closer to me as our noses brush against each other.
"Five." I hiss at him despite the heat in my cheeks, looking over as Diego yells out about who these guys were.
"Maybe they're here for Kenny's birthday!" Klaus answers and I chuckle. The guys in tight plague doctor knockoffs continue shooting at us and Diego decides to start fighting, throwing a dagger and killing one.
Their body lands on a button, making it dark and music starts playing while disco lights spin around in the building. "Bruh, I thought this only happens in movies or shows." Five rolls his eyes at me before teleporting behind one of the guys and snapping their neck while Luther throws bowling balls at the others. I wince as one of them gets hit directly in the head. "Ooooo brain damage. Yikes." Klaus ends up throwing a cake and Diego throws another dagger as Five teleports back to me.
"They're blocking the exit!" Klaus yells out.
"Go through the bowling lanes!" I scream out and he repeats my words, everyone looking at the lanes.
"Let's go!" Five helps me up and we bolt for the lanes, dodging the raining bullets directed at us. He holds me to his chest as we slide down the lanes, knocking the pins and landing on the other side.
"Well, that's disappointing, Thought we might end up in an alternate universe." I rasp out, always wondering what was on the other side of a bowling lane but came up disappointed.
"Maybe next time!" Five quickly says before he picks me up bridal style again and runs behind his siblings to Icarus Theatre.
