(y/n) - your name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I fan myself against the heat that pelted down on me, using the bag to give me some sort of shade as I walked along the green fields while various cars zoomed by. I didn't know where I was going but I knew that I had to leave Dallas.

I can't be around Five's siblings anymore.

I sigh out, hugging myself when I hear a car slow down behind me. "(y/n)?" I turn around to see Vanya look at me with her brows furrowed, worry in her eyes and I curse myself for not walking fast enough.

"Vanya-"

"-what are you doing here by yourself!?" She jumps out of the car, all worried for me. "I thought you were heading home. This isn't the way home." She mumbles out and I sigh. "Were you trying to leave?" She looks at me sadly and I quickly shake my head.

"No! No. I was just lost."

Well, that is kinda true.

Vanya looks at me and purses her lips. "It's because of Five? Isn't it?" I don't say anything and she sighs sadly. "Come on." She gently grabs my hand and pulls me towards her car, opening the front passenger door for me but I look at her. "I'll drive you home." I immediately step back away from the car, my heart beating faster all of a sudden. "No, I'm taking you back to Sissy's place." I calm down and nod, getting in the car and she closes the door before coming around to get in the driver's seat. She zooms off quickly and I realise she was all fidgety, frowning when I realise why.

"Carl found out didn't he?" Vanya goes rigid, gripping the wheel tightly before nodding.

"We'll leave together, all four of us. You, me, Sissy and Harlan. We can live somewhere peaceful together. We can go home together." She smiles at me before focusing on driving and I frown knowing it won't happen but I can't break her hope.

"Take me back." I mumble out and she looks at me in confusion. "Take me to Elliot's place. I have something I left back there, something important."

"But-"

"-just drop me off at the nearest bus stop and go back to Sissy and Harlan, help them pack. There's not much time."

"(Y/n)-"

"-please." I beg her and she sighs, nodding knowing I won't back down and drives me to the nearest bus stop before handing me money.

"Come to this same bus stop in two hours ok. I'll come to get you." I nod and jump out of the car, shitting the door and waving Vanya goodbye as she drives off before I wait for the bus. Luckily it doesn't take too long for it to arrive, paying the driver and sitting down in a seat for the long drive back into town.

I mindlessly just watched the scenery go by in the empty bus, growing tired the longer this one-hour drive went by until I saw familiar streets and buildings. The bus parks at the bus stop and I mumble a thanks to the driver, hopping off and walking back to Elliot's place. I was hoping to not bump into anyone and grab my backpack. I had some essentials in there like clothes, food and a shit tonne of money that I may or may not have asked Five to steal for me if I ever wanted to go shopping. I peek down the alleyway to see it empty and I rush to the door to get into the building, jogging up the stairs and opening the front door.

I gagged from the sudden rotting smell as soon as I walked in and it hits me too late.

Elliot...

I drop my bags in shock when I saw his body in the chair.

How could I forget that he gets killed!?

How could I forget something like that!?

I could've done something to keep him alive!

Why didn't I come back here!? Why did I run to Vanya!?

WHY AM I SO FUCKING SELFISH!?

"Elliot...?" I croak out, my eyes welling with tears as I walked towards him. "No, no..." he was covered by the bloody sheet and I couldn't bring myself to get closer to him since the floor was covered with blood. "I'm so sorry... Elliot no..."

I suddenly heard faint voices from the back door and I rush to grab my bag, saying one final goodbye to Elliot before I rushed out of the building front door and out onto the street. I let out a breath of relief and I walked back to the bus stop but I freeze when I hear voices again, cursing lowly when I see Five and the Handler talking. I needed to walk past the alleyway but they were in there.

"Why so quiet? Thought you'd be buzzing after this morning's slaughter?" The Handler grins and I shudder, looking at Five who had a deep frown.

"All this killing... I'm done with it." He sighs out.

"What? Am I supposed to take that seriously?" The handler scoffs, pulling out a handkerchief to wipe blood off The Boys face but he flinches away from her which makes her raise a brow at him. "It's because of that girl, isn't it?"

"What I did today, I did for my family. I did it to save the world... I did it for her..."

"Please. Spare me your little assassin with the heart of gold routine, will you? She's not important-"

"-yes. Yes, she is."

"You like her..." the Handler gasps and I furrow my brows.

"She betrayed me... but I hurt her. I shouldn't have hurt her."

"Forget about her. She broke your heart, so move on. There's plenty of fish in the sea for you when you and your family get back to 2019." The Handler tuts and hands Five the briefcase. "Here. Per our agreement. You have 90 minutes."

I jump from the sudden toll of a clock ringing loudly and I move to step away from the alleyway to leave but-

-I don't want to be stuck here in Dallas...

But you can't go back or Five would kill you.

But if I stay here... I'll die.

We die either way.

I...

I don't know what to do.

"You said nothing about a time limit!" Five hisses.

"Actually, you have 89 minutes and 30 seconds." The Handler muses. "Better hurry."

"This is impossible, ok!?" The Boy yells at her and she rolls her eyes. "My siblings are scattered across the city!"

"Nothings Impossible." The Handler grins. "You proved that this morning when you killed the board."

"I need more time! I need to apolo-!"

"-any more time, and people will start asking questions." Five looked so betrayed as he takes a step back. "The sooner you get home and out of this time period, the better off we'll both be, so tick-tock, tick-tock." Five sneers at The Handler and teleports away, using that as my signal to leave while he was busy.

I walk back to the bus stop hoping to get on one that leaves town, waiting beneath the sign. I see one coming from one end but I curse when I see Vanya's car coming up on the other side of the street from the opposite end of the road.

"(y/n)!" she calls out for me and I look at the bus that was getting closer, sighing in defeat and running across the street to her car. "Sissy and Harlan are ready! Let's go!" I get in the car and she immediately drives off, almost speeding down the road.

I don't say anything as we drove out of the town and into the rural area, watching the green fields fly by once again and I lean back against my seat. We round a corner and I gasp, seeing Five look at us when he drove past us. "Fuck." I mumble out and shrink down in my seat to try and hide but I knew it was too late.

Shit, shit, shit, shit!

Vanya skids to a stop and I hear Five do the same, her getting out of the car. "What are you doing here?"

"Looking for you." I could hear the anger and frustration in his voice from being betrayed by The Handler, The Boy walking over to his sister's car with a pissed-off look and I quickly lock the doors. "Get out of the car." He growls at me but I don't move..

"You leave (y/n) alone Five." Vanya hisses, standing in front of her brother and shielding me from his view. "She's not going anywhere with you after what you did to her!" she sneers and I peek out of the window to see Five looking at me with a blank face. I couldn't tell if he was mad but I definitely didn't want to risk it.

"Look, we're going back to 2019."

"What are you talking about?" Vanya exclaims.

"He found a way back home." Five whips his head at me smirking at me in distaste.

"Of course, you would know." that anger and hatred came back in full force from his words and I turn away to ignore him, crossing my arms. "We have 30 minutes to leave." I hear Five walk away.

"What about my friends? I can't just leave them here!" Vanya exclaims while she follows her brother.

"Vanya, you don't have a choice in this, alright?" I wince as Five hisses at us both. "Doomsday will happen if you don't come with me."

"Ok, then I'm bringing them with me."

"They belong in this timeline!"

"Says who!?" I flinch from the sudden screaming match, looking out the window to see Vanya and Five yelling at each other and I frowned.

I can't stay here.

I unlock the car door and slowly get out with my bag. "No one is insignificant!" Five yells out.

"Why do you get to decide!? You're the reason we're stuck here in the first place!"

"If I did nothing, we would all be dead right now, thanks to you!"

I slowly take a couple steps back so they wouldn't hear me, taking more and more until I was far enough to bolt into a run, leaving Five and Vanya.

This is all my fault.

I hear them call out my name and I run faster, away from them and taking all my problems with me. I run down through the green fields, holding back my tears as I cut through the tall grass. I don't know how long I was running for but it felt forever, panic an all-time high that I would be stuck trapped in the green fields until I finally broke out into the clearing of a road. I panted heavily and wiped my tears away, looking around before walking away down the road.
