"Too bad. You can count me out. It's time we all grew the hell up." I stand in front of Luther, blocking his way to the staircase while his siblings urge him to just come back. He looks at me and back at Five who was tense and cautious, watching his every move. Ape man looks back at me and sighs before suddenly picking me up.
"Luther! Put me the fuck down!" I gasp when I struggle out of his grip, scared that he might crush me with his bare hands.
"(y/n)!" Five screams when Luther suddenly throws me over the railing and I scream as I fall through the air, Five teleporting to catch me midair and teleporting again outside.
We groan out as we roll down the alleyway, skidding across the ground before I fall flat on my back. "I can't believe that ass threw me! AGAIN!" I growl out and open my eyes but I take in a sharp breath when I see Five above me.
He blinks down at me with wide eyes, worry on his face as his hair was a frantic mess. "Are you ok!?" I nod slowly and he sits back, letting me sit up as I rub my head and up at the building. "When did that monkey learn how to fight dirty?" He hisses softly, getting cut off by the sound of something clattering on a roof and we turn to the sound to see Lila standing on the roof, just smiling down at us. "Son of a bitch." The little assassin seethes like he couldn't catch a break, standing up before holding my hand to help me up on my feet too.
He was about to go and follow after Lila but I grabbed his arm to stop him. "Forgot about her." I sigh, hoping this would help keep blood off Five's hands and keep his conscious just that a little lighter. "The Handler is going to ask you to kill the Board of Directors in exchange for a suitcase to take everyone back home so she can be in charge of the Commission. Do you really want to go do that?" he looks at me, back at the alleyway opening and back at me.
I could hear the cogs turning in his head before he answers. "What about the apocalypse? The one here and the one in 2019."
"Poof, gone. She promised no apocalypse cause once she's in charge, she'll keep it that way."
"And the Board of Directors? No one knows who they are."
"They have a meeting every once in a while during a different timeline, but never twice in the same one."
"But she knows when they'll meet." Five mutters out.
"Yep. She knows the exact details for their meeting."
"She's good."
"As much as I hate to say it, I agree. She's trying to manipulate the feeling of hopelessness in you."
"She's really good."
"The Handler thinks that she's your only option."
"But she's not." I shake my head, holding Five's arm and he looks at me softly, patting my hand.
"Right, you are. We still have other leads." he nods. "So, are you going to follow Lila?" the little assassin shakes his head as we walk out of the alleyway.
"We'll go find my dad first." He says but we quickly stop when a sleek black car stops in front of us. The window rolls down and a hand holds out an invitation for us. I go to grab it but The Boy quickly pulls me back. "What if it's a trap? From Lila and the Handler."
"It's not. It's your dad. He wants to meet you." I snicker at how cautious he was, amused as he let me go slowly so I could grab the invitation.
"Oh." I grab the envelope and the window rolls back up before the car drives off, opening it up and handing it over to Five who reads over it. "I guess it's time to go see dad." he scans over the words before handing me the invitation to let me read it.
"Oh wow, are you finally taking me to meet the whole family? I'll admit, we are going through this relationship a little fast, don't you think?" I sarcastically joke and he rolls his eyes at me, a smirk on his face.
"You never complained once did you." Five winks and we head off to the hotel to see his dad, walking down the pathway together.
"This is one snazzy hotel." I whistle out low when Five and I arrived at the hotel, the both of us looking up at it and the invitation to make sure we were at the right place. We look at each and nod, him taking a tight hold of my hand and pulling me with him towards the entrance, opening the door for me so I could walk in before he did. I was looking around in awe of the fancy interior, letting him lead me to where we needed to go with his hand on the small of my back. We walked up the stairs and arrived at an elevator, him pressing the button to go up and we waited while I flushed from his hand moving to hold my waist like it was second nature to him.
We waited for the doors to open but Five was fidgeting and shifting his weight from foot to foot. "Calm down, it's not going to be as bad as you think." I try to ease his mind but he just nods, absentminded until the elevator dings.
The doors soon open and he lets me in first before I him, pressing the button for the floor we need to go to. I look at The Boy who frowns deeply in though, his hands in his pockets and I pay his chest where his heart is. He looks at me softly and relaxes, the doors closing but before it could close completely, a hand shot out to stop them from closing.
"Wait up."
"You know that's dangerous to put your hand in the middle of closing doors, Diego. You could lose a limb." I call out as I step to stand next to Five when Diego walks into the elevator.
"I forget how creepy it is that you know what happens next." He raises a brow at me and I shrug.
"Allisons next, then Klaus, Vanya and Luther."
"What?" The boys ask and we look up to see exactly that sequence of siblings walking into the elevator and squeezing in the getting cramped space.
Five sighs in annoyance and stands in front of me as I leaned back against the corner of the elevator, making sure no one bumped into me since there wasn't much space in the elevator. He holds an arm above my head and rests one next to me, looking up to make sure every one of his siblings were here. "Good. We're all here."
No one says anything, everyone too anxious to see their dad in person after so long. The doors soon close and I stretch my sleeve over my hand to cover my mouth and nose. "If y'all want to survive in the next few minutes, I suggest you cover your nose." Everyone looks at me weirdly, Five simply following my actions but he raises a brow at me with a questioning look.
"Why-" Klaus asks but stops, a look of disgust on his face as everyone gags at the smell that hits them. "-Luther!"
"Sorry, I'm nervous."
"No, that's what happens when you eat hundreds of eggs in the morning!" I exclaim, my eyes watering and Five groans in pain as he hides his face against my neck, my own eyes watering from the smell.
How is the smell affecting my eyes!?
The door opens and we all run out, gasping for fresh air. "Jesus fucking Christ Luther!" I wheeze out, bending over as Five coughed next to me. I hit his back a couple of times before standing up straight.
"Alright, when dad gets here, I'll do the talking, ok?" he wheezes out as I walk down the stairs and towards the table in front of me to sit down on a chair, making sure to sit as far away from Luther as possible on the round table at the supposed tikki bar themed restaurant?
"Got a few questions for him myself." Diego says while Five walks over to me and sits down next to me, pulling my chair closer to his and away from his brother who sits down on the seat next to me.
"Hey, we don't wanna scare him off. He might be able to help us stop doomsday, get us home." The Boy glares at the Kraken and I lean back in my chair to get out of that fight between them.
"And no, Diego. We don't have to figure out why he's planning to kill the president." I cut him off immediately before he could speak, staring him down and he looks away with a huff.
"This is a matter of life and death, you imbecile!" Five throws one last insult at Diego who glares back at him.
"Ok, yeah, maybe we should take turns talking. Yeah?" Vanya suggests and I get up from my seat to go to the bar to get a cocktail, grabbing the jug of colourful-looking drinks and grabbing a glass to bring back to the table so I could pour myself a drink. I ignore the conch shell situation, downing the glass and pouring more.
"Vanya, we don't have time for a debate, ok." Five explains but he gets cut off by Allison about being a better public speaker and Diego insulting her.
"Hey..." I hold Five'a face and turn him to look at me, a deep-set frown on his face as he got lost in his thoughts again and I knew he was getting worried about this last chance of help failing. I couldn't even tell him that things would go well tonight cause they don't. He was frustrated and worried, his hands balled into fists and I felt miserable that I couldn't help him. I pay his hand gently and he eases, uncurling his fingers to let me hold his hand. He squeezes my hand for comfort, for some sort of assurance that someone was there for him.
And I am. And I'll continue to try to be there for him.
"Sit down!" I quickly grab the conch shell from Diego before he could throw it, slamming it down on the table and glaring at the Hargreeves siblings but they continue to argue with each other. "I SAID SIT DOWN!" I yell out and they scramble to quickly sit down in their seats. I put the conch shell away next to Five so no one grabs it, downing another glass of whatever was in the jug with the rainbow-coloured liquid when I hear Reggie bursting through the door for his grabs entrance. He easily made an impression on his kids but I couldn't give a fuck, to be honest, everyone watching him move to sit down at the table opposite Five and me while I toyed with the little umbrella in my glass.
"Not only have you burglarised my lab, set my chimp lose, conned your way into the Mexican consulate, repeatedly stalked and attacked me, but you have, on numerous occasions, called me-"
"-hey, pop. How's it hanging?" Klaus stumbles back in his seat from the bar with a drink in his hand, the fancy kind with a little olive in it.
"My reconnaissance tells me you're not CIA, not KGB, certainly not MI5, so who's re you?"
I nudge Five when no one speaks up to answer Reggie. "We're your children. We're from the future."
"By the way, I ain't your kid. I'm a friend of Five's." I raise my hand and Reggie narrows his eyes at me before looking at Five who further explained to his dad.
"In 1989, you adopted us all and trained us to fight against the end of the world. Called us the Umbrella Academy." He explains and I see him flinch, rubbing his arm where his tattoo was and I reach over to brush my thumb over his wrist.
"Why on earth would I adopt six-"
"-seven excluding me. He's dead but his ghost is actually still here." I cut Reggie off, finishing another margarita.
"Regardless, what would possess me to adopt seven ill-mannered malcontents?" I wince at the stab, getting up to get more drinks.
"We all have special abilities." I hear Five explains from the bar and I bring back another jar to fill up my glass at the table.
"Special? In what sense?" Reggie asks.
"In the superpower sense." Luther speaks up and I mindlessly drink while chilling in my seat, the siblings complaining about not being circus acts.
"Diego don't throw your knife-" I get cut off when he does and I roll my eyes. "Or do, I don't care..." Reggie writes something and everyone leans forward to see why he wrote in his journal.
"You are 0 for 2 young man." This makes Diego furious and I snicker into my drink, Five quickly teleporting to stop his brother from failing to kill his dad.
"Now that is interesting." Reggie nods before Five does a quick rundown of everyone.
"Alright, quick rundown. Luther, super strength. Klaus can commune with the dead. Allison can rumour anyone to do anything." Five explains before he comes back to sit down next to me.
"Except she never uses it."
"Oh, you screwed yourself Diego." I shake my head as he looked at me in confusion before Allison rumoured him, making him punch himself in the face. He groans out in pain and I snicker.
"You?" Reggie looks at Vanya and Luther shakes his head.
"Keep your hands off her." I hiss at him and he takes his hands away from Vanya's shoulder, raising them up in defence.
"Put the fork down (y/n)." Five whispers to me as he lowers my hand that held a fork pointed at his brother, taking it from me.
"I was only going to say that maybe we don't take Vanya for a test drive..." Luther narrows his eyes at me and I point at him threateningly.
"It's fine. I can handle it." Vanya says as she picks up a fork.
"And that's my cue to dip." I peace everyone out and quickly duck beneath the table, looking up at Five who furrows his brows in confusion but bites back his amusement. "If you don't want to get splattered with juice, duck." His eyes widen and he quickly follows me, sucking beneath the table and crouching next to me. He held my arms when we both suddenly hear loud ringing and then an explosion of fruit erupting from the table as everyone groans in annoyance. Five and I slowly peek our heads up from beneath the table, looking around to see everyone splattered with fruit bits and a mess of a fruit salad on the table before we move to sit back in our seats.
Reggie looks at me while cleaning his suit, raising a brow at me and I look at him in confusion at what he wants. "And you must be able to predict the future then."
"Oh no, I'm as ordinary as it gets. Only difference is, I'm from the future. Well, from an alternate universe from the year 2020. Five accidentally brought me here to your world." Reggie doesn't say anything, just cleaning his monocle. Diego accuses him of planning to kill JFK and Reggie instantly hits him back with a psychological analysis as someone who has a pathetic hero complex.
"The sad reality is that you're a desperate man, tragically unaware of his own insignificance, desperately clinging to his own ineffectual reasoning. More succinctly, a man in over his head."
Diego crumbles in his seat, tears glazing his eyes as he stutters out. "Y-you're wro-wrong."
"Diego..." I frown when I see him cry and my chest hurts seeing him upset and in pain like this.
Everyone was quiet for a moment, Five gently holding my arm seeing how upset I was and I look at him. "...Look, forget about the president..." he breathes out shakily, clearing his throat of his hesitation from moving past his brother's anguish, trying to get to the point of this meet-up. "We have a catastrophic war coming in five days." I look away and sit back in my chair, Diego just staring at his hands and not looking up once. "We need to figure out how to stop it."
"War? Men will always be at war with each other." Reggie scoffs.
"No, this isn't just some war." Five bites back. "I'm talking about a doomsday."
"More specifically, the end of the world as we know it." I mumble out.
"Well... you're the special ones, aren't you?" Reggie looks at me. "You know how to stop it. So why don't you band together and do something about it?"
The look on Five's face broke me, hope turned to hopelessness and for once, he looked like a scared child. "I thought you were smarter Reggie." I hiss at him, clenching my fists to calm down my anger at how much he hurt his kids. "You know that anything from outside your universe and mucking around your world can cause chaos, or change a timeline through a sequence of events that are never meant to happen." Reggie nods as I glare at him but I turn to squint my eyes behind Klaus. "Ben, don't even think about possessing his body right now." I scold him even though I can't see him.
"Ben was gonna do what!?" Klaus exclaims and Reggie stands up, gathering his things to end dinner.
"Well, thank you for coming. I've seen about enough." The siblings were trying to stop their dad from leaving and I cover my eyes and look away when Luther stands up, knowing that he was going to rip his shirt open. I cringe at his words but mentally congratulate him on standing up to his dad.
I open my eyes and look up to see Reggie looking at Five and me and pointing to the doors, ignoring Luther. "You in the culottes and dungaree. A word, in private?"
