"Why didn't you tell us it was your birthday today?" Vanya asks softly and I shrug, trying to play off as being cool and collected but I instinctively rub my left arm from the phantom pains and I hold back my wince.

"I don't like celebrating it. It's a waste of time, a reminder of being a year closer to death." Luther coughs lightly from my words, almost choking, the air immediately becoming awkward.

"That totally didn't kill the mood..." Diego whispers and Klaus shushes him harshly.

"I'm sorry, I really do appreciate everything that you did for me today, but my birthday is not something I care about."

I hate it.

I hate my birthday.

"You guys enjoy the party though." I breathe out shakily and turn around to head back down to my room to hide and calm myself but Five teleports in front of me, holding my shoulders. He looks at me softly, noticing I didn't look well and he brushes his fingers against my cheek.

I lean into his touch and my mind quietens down immediately, his eyes softening. "Sweetheart... what's wrong...?" He whispers to me only so no one else heard him. I shake my head and that makes him frown. "(Y/n), please-"

"-I'm fine." I mumble out and he sighs sadly, tapping my chin up to look at him when I turned away.

"I'm sorry (y/n), I should've talked to you first before doing all this. I didn't realise you would be unhappy. I thought maybe-"

"-Five, love," I hold his cheeks to stop his rambling and I could see that he was sad, his words stuttering and I knew his mind was running miles per second and that he was panicking about being a terrible boyfriend. "I'm grateful really. You didn't have to do any of this for me though-"

"-of course I do. You're my girlfriend and I'm your boyfriend. We keep each other happy." He takes hold of both my hands and kisses the back of them and I blush at his affection. " I didn't know-"

"-because I didn't tell you. That's on me... You did amazing... better than any man would've down for their partner." I look around to admire his hard work under such a short notice and I really was grateful for his efforts.

I didn't even think that he would do something like this... for me...

Why would he do this for me? I didn't deserve this, any of this.

Why... Five why me...

I didn't want to make him upset, I never wanted to make him upset. "Well if we're supposed to keep each other happy, I did a miserable job." Five frowns at my words but I cut him off as I steal a quick kiss from him before he could retaliate. "Let's not waste your efforts. How about this, we can call this just a normal family party, all of us just hanging out. A celebration to finally coming back home even though the situation is a little different." Five smiles immediately at the thought, nodding as he kisses my nose.

"Then it's just a normal family party." He calls out loud for the others and they get the signal to get rid of the obvious birthday-related decorations but still kept most of the generic ones up. Klaus' eyes shine as he looks down at what looked like my birthday cake and swipes a huge dollop of frosting with his finger before eating the frosting, I assumed he swiped at the 'Happy Birthday' part to remove from the cake and I chuckle. Five rolls his eyes at his family's antics, smiling at me as he pulls me back to the party with his hand holding mine. "Did I forget to mention that you look stunning tonight?" he whispers, gently holding my cheeks as he looked at me warmly. I smile happily and lean into his touch as he kisses me softly before moving back, a genuinely happy smile on his face.

"How did I get so lucky with an intelligent and handsome boyfriend?" I grin, taking in his lovely dark navy suit that he must have tailored to match with my dress.

"You mocked the way I walk from what I could remember." I gasp as Five chuckles at my shock.

How'd he know!? I was doing that behind his back!

"You knew about that!?"

"Klaus didn't shut up about how accurate you got my quote on quote, grumpy old man walk." I snap my head immediately to glare at Klaus who had his back turned to me and he visibly shudders sensing me, turning his head in confusion before Diego points to me and Klaus turns around. His eyes widen when he saw me glaring at him, giving me a shy wave before hiding below the table and Five pulls me back from my anger at his brother with his laugh.

"I mean, for the record, you don't move like you're in an 18-year-old body." I tease and he rolls his eyes with a smile.

"What do you expect! I was over 50 before I was forced to go through adolescence again!"

"Yeah and technically I was 18 in 2019 but I'm actually 19 cause I lived through 2020 but who's counting, am I right? Plus, you're hot like this so I'm definitely not complaining." I smirk and Five raises a brow at me, grabbing my waist and pulling me close to his body.

"Good because for the first time ever, I'm not mad I got stuck in this body. I get to love you for a very long time." I blush heavily from his words, my hands on his chest as he leans down to kiss me softly, his hands tightening around my waist. I feel him smile into the kiss and I do the same, nuzzling his nose when he leans back.

"Ok love birds! Enough with the PDA!" Diego yells out, Vanya and Klaus grabbing us both to eat with them before Luther could eat everything in sight.

There was music playing in the background while we all talked and shared stories, drinking together and laughing together like a happy family. I looked around and saw how at ease everyone finally was, to see them actually be able to live for once without being worried about losing another person they love to the apocalypse. Luther and Vanya were happily talking to each other, Klaus bothering Diego with his chatter and his singing of different songs that were playing.

They... look free...

I look over at Five to see him drinking his whiskey, looking over his family with warmth in his eyes. He may not outspokenly say that he loves his family, but the fact that he risked his life over and over to save them every damn time showed his neverending affection for them. He truly loved his family and he would do anything for them. I take hold of his hand and squeeze it in mine, him looking at me with worry but he eases when I smile at him.

"What's running through your pretty mind, princess?" Five asks as I lean my head on his shoulder, his thumb brushing the back of my hand.

"I'm just glad you all finally got the happiness you deserve. It's been my only wish for a very long time..." I whisper and I feel him kiss the top of my head, looking up at him and he smiles down at me as he reaches up to caress my cheek.

"I guess, in a way, your birthday wish came true." he snickers softly to me and I shake my head with a smile. I was about to retort back when I hear a familiar song, sitting up straight with furrowed brows as everyone around me exclaim in happiness before jumping up from their seats.

"Ok, who made the playlist?" I ask, hearing the catchy beat of Footloose playing and I know I'm going to have the time of my life watching the Umbrella Kids break it down on the dance floor.

"I did!" Klaus cheers, grabbing Vanya and Luther towards the dance floor.

"Oh my fucking god!" I gasp, clapping as I see Luther start dancing, Klaus grabbing Five and Diego next who was trying to run away but failed. My boyfriend gave me a pleasing look to save him but I raise my hands and shake my head.

I sat on my seat as I saw the umbrella kids start dancing in unison like they somehow had the time between apocalypses to practice the choreography to Footloose! And honestly, I was loving it! I stood up quickly and set my phone up to record them, standing to the side and clapping since I couldn't dance for shit or to save my life.

"Oh shit! We're really good at this!" I laugh at Diego's remark, all of them clapping. I look over at Five who winks at me and I snicker at how funny he looked dancing.

"Look, the old man has moves!" I call out, cheering for them and I gasp as they suddenly line up in 2 lines, dancing past each other.

They are way too good at this!

Klaus was having the time of his life, throwing his hands up as he sang loudly to the song and I join him too. "Whooo! Go guys!" They were all laughing as they shuffled down one end to the other, Five's hair whipping back and forth and that's when they suddenly break out to dance by themselves.

"Come on (y/n)!" they all call out to me but I shake my head.

"I don't know how to dance!" Luther does his signature crab dance and Klaus throws his jacket to the sky while Five, Vanya and Diego shuffled around the table in a line. I burst out laughing at the scene, feeling so happy at the moment. I gasp loudly as I see Vanya honestly break it down on the dance floor, dancing for her life but having so much fun as she grinned happily. She wasn't holding back and I cheered loudly for her. "GO VANYA!" I scream out, looking over at Klaus and Digeo dancing together.

Five turns to me, holding his hand out but I shake my head. "Come on (y/n), I know you want to." I contemplate as I watched the others just enjoying themself and I shrug, taking his hand in the end and he holds me tight.

I yelp when he pulls me towards the dance floor, spinning me under his hand before letting me spin away. I blush as I see him raise a brow at me and I grin, holding out my palm as I stood in the middle of the dance floor with the others clapping. Diego shoves Five forward and he stumbles my way, his chin laying on my palm and we dance together with bright smiles. I giggle as I twirl my hair with my other hand, the both of us jumping to the side as Five does his moves and I trail my hand from his chin down his chest. My boyfriends eyes glint as I smirk at him, lightly pushing his chest back and he dramatically falls back but I quickly grab his arm and pull him back up. He gasps softly when his body presses against mine, his hands immediately holding my waist to hold me tight against him.

"Go (y/n) and Five!" the others cheer as Five pulls me close, leaning down close like he was going to kiss me but I gasp when he spins me under his arm in multiple ways before pulling me back to his chest to pick me up.

"Five!" I giggle as he spins me around before setting me back down to dip me and the others scream.

"How's that for an old man's moves?" He pants lightly as I breathe out shakily, my mind still running.

"I mean, I like your ballroom dance skills but this side of you is so much more fun." Five smiles as he lifts me up, stealing a quick kiss from me before we all suddenly get into formation. Dancing across the rooftop. I sang the lyrics with Klaus and Diego, holding onto Five's hands that held my waist from behind me before we spun off to dance separately again. I danced with all the siblings, Klaus mainly picking me up and swinging me around like a doll, Luther holding my hands gently as he spun me around, Vanya and I swinging each other around like crazy as Diego and I did the macarena together before Five could steal me away.

The music dies down to another song and Five's hands wrap around me as he hugs me from behind, kissing my shoulder. "We have one more thing we wanted to give you." He whispers and I turn my head back to look at him in confusion. He was smiling shyly before stepping back and taking my hand to lead me back to the others as they waited by the table.

"Since you are part of this family-" Luther starts.

"-you know surviving two apocalypses as everyone has." Klaus claps as he cuts off Luther who glares at him.

"Yes, that too. We wanted to give you something that shows that you are officially part of the Umbrella Academy. We didn't think having a large branding of an umbrella on your wrist would be a good idea so-"

"-Luther, you're rambling." Vanya says and he stops.

"Right sorry," he pulls something out from his pockets and hands it to me. "It's from all of us." I look down to see a jewellery box, opening it up.

"Ben too." Klaus beams and I tear up seeing an umbrella charm on a necklace.

"You guys... I can't believe-" I fan my face and they all chuckle as I mumble out that I didn't want to ruin Vanya's hard work.

"Here, let me." Five takes the necklace and stands in front of me to put it on me. He kisses my neck once he was done and moves back to smile at me. "I love you (y/n)." he whispers, leaning his forehead on mine as he holds my hands.

"I love you too Five." He lets out a shaky breath when I said those words back to him too, holding his cheeks lovingly and smiling up at him before pecking his lips. He blushed lightly and steps back to stay next to me and I beam happily at my family. "And I love you all too." they all awe and I squeal when I get pulled into a family group hug, almost smothered to death by Luther's monkey arms.

I love rewatching it just to see everyone dancing.
