(y/n) - your name

I burst out laughing at how unsure Luther was, his hand out in the air for a handshake but it wasn't even anywhere near me! "This dumbass. No offence Five."

"None taken. I agree with you." Five chuckles as Luther looks at him in confusion, dropping his hand.

"What did she say?"

"Just tell him 'It's nice to meet you too', I don't want to humiliate him anymore." Five repeats what I said to his bigger brother and Luther smiles for me before getting up and getting some breakfast for us. "Do you remember anything from last night?" I turn to the boy sitting next to me and he goes rigid, looking at me with wide eyes.

He clears his throat, looking away quickly. "Uh, not really. I must have drunk too much last night."

"What do you remember?"

"Uh, just up to the part where we were in the library and I was getting some equations down. It's blank after that until we got here to Diego's place." Five was acting really odd as he rubbed the back of his neck, the tips of his ears turning pink and I narrow my eyes at him.

Is he lying right now?

Does he actually not remember what happened in the library?

He then turns to look at me with wide eyes. "Do you remember anything from last night!?" Before I could say anything, Luther comes back with breakfast and handed it to his brother.

"When's it supposed to happen? This... apocalypse." the big guy asks and Five hands me the plate instead and I knew they had been talking about the apocalypse when I was asleep before.

"I can't give you the exact hour, but...  from what I could gather, we have four days left." the smaller brother sighs with a solemn look on his face.

"Why didn't you say something sooner!?"

"It wouldn't have mattered..." Five says with a husky voice, a low growl from recently just waking up.

"Of course, it would! We could've banded together and helped you try to stop this thing!"

"For the record, you already tried..." I notice his eyes turn dull as he thought about seeing his family in the apocalypse and I gently hold his arm to bring him back to the present. Five frowns sadly, turning his body to me subtly for comfort as he lets me pat his arm softly.

"What do you mean?"

"...I found all of you... Your bodies..." he says softly.

"We die?"

"Horribly... You were together, trying to stop whoever it was that ends the world."

"Wait, how do you know that?" Five takes out the glass eyeball from his pocket, revealing it to Luther.

"This was clutched in your dead hand when I found you." he throws it over to him before leaning against my side for comfort. I lean against him too, shuffling closer and he bows his head in appreciation. "Must've ripped it out of their head right before you went down."

"Whose head?" Luther asks.

"Like I said, I don't know."

"Well, there's a serial number on the back. Think maybe you could try-"

"-no, that's a dead end. We already unravelled that thread have it burst into flames..." Five looks at me and he sighs in defeat and I feel so guilty for not being able to tell him. "It's just another hunk of glass."

Luther hands his brother the eye back until the door suddenly slams open, Diego bursting into the room and Luther quickly grabs him before he could hurt Five

"Get your ape hands off me!"

"I can do this as long as it takes you to calm down."

"Fine." Luther lets Diego go and I stand up, subtly standing in front of Five. It was almost just instinct at this point to protect him even though I knew he could protect himself. He gets up and I jump in surprise when he wraps an arm around my waist as he stood behind me.

"Now, wanna tell us what you're talking about?" Luther asks, standing between Diego and Five to prevent a fight from breaking out.

"Our brother's been pretty busy since he got back. He was in the middle of that shootout at Griddy's, and then at Gimble Brothers, after the guys in masks attacked the Academy, looking for him!" he yells out.

"None of which is any of your concern." Five says, ignoring Diego's hostility.

"It is now." he sneers. "They just killed my friend!" I notice a slight falter on The Boy's face and I look at the Kraken with pity, a frown on my face and Five notices.

"What's wrong?" He whispers in my ear, ignoring the other two grown men in the room.

"It's Eudora. She's the one that died. Hazel and Cha-Cha killed her at their hotel. Brutally..."

"Eudora?" Five mumbles and Diego looks up, hearing that name and glares at his brother.

"How do you know her name!?"

"She was Diego's ex-girlfriend." I mumble sadly.

"Diego, calm down. Just listen. This is going to sound weird but there's someone else in here." Luther says, trying to explain to Diego.

"Who!?"

"(y/n). She's someone that Five accidentally brought here when he time travelled but you can't see her." the big brother looks at knife boi so seriously that it's almost comical.

"Are you fucking kidding me right now!?" Diego exclaims and Luther shakes his head while Five rests his head on top of mine, draping his blazer over me again. Luther points and Diego looks over at me, well the floating blazer. "...What the fuck?"

"And to answer your question, I don't know Eudora but (y/n) does. She knows everything." Five answers for me.

"Even about who causes the apocalypse!?" Luther asks and Five nods.

"But she can't interfere 'cause it will cause discord in our universe since she's not supposed to be here." he repeats this for Diego who was struggling to understand, staring at me with wide eyes.

"So she knew Eudora was going to die?" His voice cracks and I frown.

"I'm sorry Diego..." I mutter and look away from his sad face, unable to bear his grief as Five rubs my back.

"She did." Diego yells out in frustration, knowing that he could've saved his love.

"Why didn't you tell me!?" I flinch away, suddenly feeling like a burden and Five guides my head into his chest while hugging me.

"Would you believe us if we told you earlier!?" Diego stays quiet as Five snaps at him. "Don't you think (y/n) would try to help too if she could!? But she can't, not as a ghost!" Diego falls back in a chair as Five runs his fingers through my hair but it didn't help the feeling of hopelessness.

"I'm sorry Diego." I whisper, feeling like absolute shit.

"She says she's sorry." Five repeats for me and Diego nods.

"I'm sorry too (y/n)... For blaming you." Diego mutters, sighing out.

"Five, who are they? The masked attackers." Luther asks and Five tells them everything as he held me in his arms.

"They work for my former employer. A woman called The Handler. She sent them... to stop me. Then, soon as Diego's friend got in their way..." he nods to Diego, referring to Eudora.

As Five continued to tell his story, I knew Diego was getting angrier by the second. "I'm going to make sure they pay." he stalks off even after Five warns him about how dangerous they are, leaving Luther, Five and I in the room.

"Former employer? What's this really about? And don't give me any of this 'It's none of your business' crap, all right!" Luther exclaims and his brother just sighs in defeat, tired of explaining himself as we sit back down on the bed.

"Well, it's a long story..." He explains how he met The Handler, her giving him an ultimatum of either being stuck in the apocalypse or having a way out. Only problem was, he had to turn a blind eye to the apocalypse saying it was supposed to happen.

"They turned me into the perfect instrument for rehabilitation of the time continuum. Or corrections,' as they called them. I wasn't the only one. There are others like me. Beings out of time, fractured, extracted from the lives that they knew. I don't know how they got there. But I do know that none of them were as good as me."

He had to agree, to get out... He had to agree, even when they turned him into a murderer. He had to agree to find the resources to go back in time when he couldn't rely only on himself. He had to agree to save the world and his family, even if it meant taking other people's lives.

"They didn't realize it, but I was biding my time, trying to figure out the right equation so I could get back. If I could just get back, I knew I could stop the apocalypse. Save the world. So I broke my contract."

I wring my hands together remembering this in the comics. It was worse, so much worse. What the Commission did to Five... how they tore him apart like it was nothing and destroyed him... I jump when Five pats my arm and I look up at him to see him frown, passing me the plate to eat something as he drinks his coffee but I wasn't hungry... not anymore...

"So... you were a hitman?" Luther asks.

"Yes." Five replies back.

"Uh... I mean, you had a code, right? You didn't kill just anybody."

"No code. We took out anyone who messed with the timeline."

"What about innocent people?"

"It was the only way I could get back here." Five says, avoiding answering that question but Luther knew instantly, appalled.

"But that's murder!"

"Jesus, Luther, grow up. We're not kids anymore! There's no such thing as good guys or bad guys. There's just people, goin' about their lives. But when the world ends, all those people die, including our family."

"Time changes everything." I mutter out and Five looks at me, I was lost in my thoughts about how so many people who deserved to die just-I could stop it, I could've said something to stop it-

-but that's how this show goes-

-but it's not fair to these people! They exist, this world of theirs is real to them and they shouldn't just die because it continues the story in my world!

But you can make it worse if you interfere. To something unpredictable that you will have no control over.

They don't deserve to die, not Eudora, not Elliot-

"-are you ok?" Five whispers to me my frown deepens as I stand up and back away from him,

"I just feel so shitty. I can't help anyone. I'm stuck in this useless form!" I start pacing, getting more and more frustrated with myself.

"Hey, it's ok. Even though you can't do anything about your situation, you've still been helping me a lot. Don't be too hard on yourself."

"What's going on?" Luther asks.

"I can't even talk to Luther properly! No one can see me! No one can hear me!" Luther was just staring in confusion and I shook my head, turning around and walking off but Five quickly gets up to stop me.

"Wait, where are you going?" he holds my wrist and I shake his hand off to get him to let me go.

"I need to get some air."

"(y/n) please-"

"-just, just give me some time. I think things through. Please Five." He nods hesitantly as he stared at me by the doorway. "Say bye to Luther for me ok?" he purses his lips as I close the door behind me, walking off.

I walk silently down the pathway, making sure to dodge any people walking by me. I didn't want to be constantly reminded of my situation every time someone walks through me. My mind was a storm, a blur of words but I still felt hollow. I just wanted to go somewhere and just sit down, to just enjoy everything at this moment instead of rushing through time. I heard a bus coming to a stop and I freeze, seeing Klaus stumble out of the bus.

"Klaus..." My heart shatters, seeing him in anguish and pain as he destroyed the suitcase against the bench, throwing it away from him. He screamed out in pain and falls to his knees, rushing over to him to hold his broken body in my arms as he cried. He sobbed and I couldn't help the tears falling down my own face, seeing him in so much pain. "I'm so sorry." I cried softly, holding Klaus tightly, trying to mend his broken pieces back together. "I'm so sorry Klaus." I ran my fingers through his hair, rocking him back and forth.

I should've been here for you.

Why can't I do anything right to help anyone?

"(y/n)..." Klaus whimpered and he looks at me, ignoring the stares of the people that walked by us. I wiped his tears away, leaning my forehead on his as I brushed my thumbs over his cheeks. "D-Dave..."

"I'm here Klaus. I'm here." He hugs me again, launching his body against mine as he cried out again. I see Ben with a sorrowful look on his face behind Klaus and I hold a hand out for him. He squeezes it, holding my hand tightly. Ben soon came around and knelt down to hug me and Klaus. I knew he missed this, missed being able to hold the people he loved.

I said I would protect these people but even though they are in front of me right now, I still can't do it.

I still can't protect them.

I still can't help them when they are all hurting...
