"Ok, where exactly are we going?" I ask as Five drove us down a seemingly empty and quiet road. "Are you taking me somewhere to kill me?" He rolls his eyes playfully at my question, well what I think was him rolling his eyes since he was wearing sunnies and so was I. The both of us were enjoying the sun and the rushing wind as the top of the car was down, my clothes and hair whipping behind me.
"Yes, I'm taking you to a forest to kill you." He sarcastically says with no hesitation.
"Really now? You're going to go on an almost 12-hour trip to go to the closest forest in Australia to kill me? The dedication." I whip back and my sweet assassin sighs but he had a smile on his face. "Seriously though, you drag me out of bed and tell me to get ready. So what's the occasion?"
"You're very stubborn aren't you."
"Takes one to know one. You're the king of stubbornness."
"So you're my Queen then?" my boyfriend grins at me and I roll my eyes at the corniness with a blush on my cheeks.
"Very funny. Tell me, I'm so curious!"
"Ok, ok. Your sister invited us for a picnic."
"That's not her. No way. Out far away from the city and from home? I call bullshit. You guys are planning something" Five doesn't say anything else until he slows down and turns a corner towards a large park. The parking lot was surrounded by trees but the park was open with a large pond next to it, ducks, birds and other animals squawking. "Five? What's going on?" I ask him as he puts the car top back up before getting out of the car and I get out too, him locking the doors.
"Just come on." He laughs at the worried look on my face, taking hold of my hand and leading me into the park. I would've enjoyed the scenery-minus the families with screaming children-if I wasn't trying to figure out what was going on. I look around as my love led us onto the open field with barbecue stations littered around and-
"-oh no..." he glanced at me as I find my cousins and their family together in one of the closed shelter spaces. "You brought me out to see my cousins!?" I whisper and Five genuinely looked worried when I quickly put my jacket over my off-shoulder blouse, zipping it up completely to cover my body.
"Bad idea?"
"Well, not a great one..." I look at him and I was genuinely worried about what my cousin families were going to say about me and him. They weren't strict but they were religious and like any other family, they do like to gossip. And now that I came back after 2 years, with a boyfriend too, unmarried, is just fuel for them to talk. I love my cousins and their families, I do but you never know what they say behind your back.
"Holy shit!? Is that (y/n)!?" I look over to see one of my favourite cousins, her squealing as she runs over to me and glomps me in a giant hug.
She was a year older than me but we were close. "Hey-"
"-is this your boyfriend!? Your sister was just telling me and I couldn't believe it but I'm so happy you found someone!" She leans back, introducing herself to Five and he does the same. "Mum and dad are so happy to see you again when I told them you were coming!"
"Is everyone here?" I ask and she nods, a smile growing on my face. "Oh my god, it's been so long since I've seen everyone." My cousin leads Five and me to the family, everyone being too busy organising the food and the snacks to notice us. I went to the mothers first, them gasping and pulling me into a hug and asking how I was as the uncles shake Five's hand and introduce themselves to him. I feel sorry for my boyfriend as he went around introducing himself to every single person here. I had a huge family and this was only dad's side.
"Fucking hell (y/n), you have a boyfriend!?" One of my favourite guy cousins gaped at me and I smirk at him.
"Yeah. Got someone before you did and you're older! Beat that!" The others snicker at him and he rolls his eyes. I hi-five the younger guy cousins as Five introduced himself to them, them bothering him with questions.
"(Y/n)!" The younger girl cousins run up to me, hugging me tight as they oggle at my love who stayed next to me the entire time.
He really was out of his element here.
"We missed you! You have to tell us everything!"
"I missed you too." I say with a smile.
"That's bullshit and you know it!" The boys laugh and I glare at them.
"Tell me again who managed to travel the world for their career and who's stuck here still in university?" I quip back and the boys shut up. "That's what I thought."
"Nah nah, who still doesn't know how to drive and now gets their boyfriend to drive them around?" They snap back and I roll my eyes with a smile.
"Funny. At least I got a boyfriend. You losers have no bitches."
"Nah that's cause we're all in a poly relationship." The younger boys joke and I roll my eyes, looking at Five who was confused as fuck.
"Ignore them. They're always like this. They have nothing better to do with their life besides game and race in their hand-me-down cars." The boys argue back at me and I just laugh at them.
"When I think I've seen all the sides of you." my love laughs lightly, leaning down to kiss my cheek but I quickly move away. He was visibly upset until I shake my head, looking back at my uncles and aunties.
"PDA is not approved in public with them." His smile falls but he lightens up again when I hold his hand in mine secretly. Five and I spent the next few hours just chatting with my cousins as they asked us questions and they embarrassed me or I just embarrassed them until we were asked to help set up the food by the parents. My sweet assassin went over to the dads to help with the barbecue and to cook the meat, and the girls and I helping with preparing the other main dishes with the mums while the little kids ran around the park.
I was cutting up some vegetables and some fruit, hearing laughter and I look up to see Five entertaining the uncles and impressing them from what it looked like. I smile warmly at how he was cool under pressure, fitting with the uncles easily since he was mentally their age. I melt at his giant smile and I feel at ease with how he seemed to fit in with my family.
He must be missing his...
"The way you look at him," I snap away from my love and look at my fave cousin as she smiles at me. "you really are in love with him. There's something in the way you look at him so warmly, it's beautiful." I flush at her words, finishing up cutting the rest of the food.
"Shut up..." I mumble in embarrassment and she laughs.
"There's no need to be embarrassed about that. It's rare to have a love marriage in this family." I choke lightly.
"Who said marriage!?" I whisper yelled at her and she smirks at me. "Marriage is not important!"
"Hey, whatever floats your boat girl. I know you always say you will never get married but I think that might change." She raises her hands in defeat and I roll my eyes, looking over at the field to see the little kids playing. They were mucking around, running around each other and chasing each other until one of them bumps into another kid and falls back on the ground.
The little boy was crying but no one seemed to notice and I walk over. "Hey buba, you're ok." I kneel in front of the little boy who was wailing, looking up at me as the kids all run away to avoid being scolded.
Little shits...
The little boy just cried and cried and I didn't know what to do so I picked him up in my arms and walked back to the shelter, grabbing some tissues to wipe his tears away. "There's no need to cry little one." The kid simpers quietly as he just stared at me and I grab some candy, passing it to him and he stops crying altogether. "You're ok." He squeals happily at the candy and I let out a sigh of relief, the kid eating the candy as I hold him on my hip since he didn't want to let me go. I bounced him lightly on my hip to calm him down as he hugged me, watching me set up the table and nom quietly on the candy. I look at him to see that he was completely quiet now, eyes wide and he gives me a toothy grin as I pinch his nose lightly.
I turn around and I see Five staring at me with a soft look on his face and I blush. "Amma!" The little boy wriggles out of my arms and I pass him to his mother, her thanking me and I avoid Five's eyes with my cheeks burning pink.
I was walking down the path around the park with the girls for our secret chats away from the parents, them chatting my ear off as we pass the field to see the boys playing cricket with the dads while the mums were having tea and gossiping. I snicker as I see Five being forced to play cricket with them but he declines, standing on the sidelines until he turned around and sees me. He sends me a smile my way and the girls squeal around me.
"Omg he is so in love with you!" I roll my eyes at the younger girls as we walked. My fave cousin and I were the oldest girls here and the rest of the girls were either my sister's age or younger.
"You both need to get married!" I let that comment slide over me.
"How long have you two been together?"
"Over a year and a half."
"Does your parents know?" my fave cousin asks me, whispering and I look at her. I nod and she grimaces. The older group of cousins-including me-made a pact to never reveal if anyone was dating since it wasn't allowed for them and they would get in big trouble with their parents. So we would help out to make up lies and opportunities for the couples to spend time with each other while fooling the parents. So when my fave cousin was secretly dating, I would lie on her behalf to her parents saying she was with me.
"Mum was fine, dad..."
"He wasn't happy with it was he?"
"Not exactly. He likes Five. He doesn't understand why a professor like him would be dating me. His words, not mine."
"He's such an ass to say that to his own kid!" I simply shrug. "But a professor, goddamn girl."
"And at the most prestigious universities in America too. Plural!"
"Girl you got lucky big time!"
"I did..." I smile and the girls all giggle. "Ok, enough about me. What's up with all of you?" the little ones tell me all about school or some girl they don't like or how hard their studying was. My cousin tells me she's going on a trip overseas with her friends soon and I get excited about that, bombarding her with questions and talking for a while on multiple topics.
"Are you staying for Christmas and New Year?" my cousin asks me and my smile falters.
"I can't. I have to go back for work." all my cousin's frown and I feel bad. I mean, I left for a long time and I just came back to leave again. "I wish I could but-"
"-I know, we get it. Maybe after?"
"I will definitely arrange to come back to visit after New Years." us girls walk around the park one last time until we all get called back by the parents, telling us it was time to go when it was getting dark real quick.
"Hey." Five whispers when I walk over to him, his fingers brushing against mine secretly and I smile up at him.
"Hey." he helps me help the parents pack up and clean up our area, the uncles and aunties bidding us goodbye since we were all done.
"Please come over one day to see us." It was the same response over and over and I gave them the same answer that I would as each auntie passed us a tub of food that would last us weeks. Five and I thank them for inviting us as we walk over to our car, my sister following us since we were going to drop her home.
"Make sure to invite us to the wedding (y/n) or I'm going to kill you!" my fave cousin yells out from her car and I gawk at her in embarrasment, my boyfriend chuckling as he puts the food in the car with my sister jumping in the back to hold it. I shake my head as I got in the front seat, my love getting in the drivers to drive off. My sister and I wave and stick our heads out the windows to say goodbye once more to our family before we sat back in the car comfortably.
"So... what did you think?" I look over at Five who looked as tired as I was.
"That was... a long day." I snicker and my sister chuckles as I look at her in the mirror.
"If you get tired now, you ain't surviving the house hopping during major holidays. Goes from the sun rising to the next day!" my sweet assassin was shocked at my sisters words and I grab his hand, entwining our fingers as I kissed the back of his hand.
"I'm sorry I couldn't be with you more today." I whisper and he understood what I meant.
"I understand. Different rules when it comes to different families but I enjoyed myself spending time with yours."
"That's not the whole family. That was only dads side." Five froze at my sister's words again and I laugh.
"We have mums, then our family friends. We have 3 sides of family."
"And I complain about there being 7 too many Hargreeves siblings..." my love mutters out. I smile as I look out the window, feeling extremely tired. I look in the mirror again to see my sister fast asleep and I let out a sigh of relief. "You can go to sleep you know." Five says and I nod but I had something I wanted to ask him.
"Five..." he hums, letting me know he was listening as he drove down the road. "How did you find me?" I never had the chance to ask him ever since he arrived in front of my apartment.
"I... I heard you..." he whispers and I look at him in confusion. "I was walking back home when I swore I heard you and I turned around to see a coffee shop."
So I wasn't crazy. When I thought I saw Five at that shop... it was actually him.
"I didn't see you at first until I saw you running down the street and I may or may not have run after you."
"Stalker much." I chuckle and he rolls his eyes.
"I just had to make sure, I couldn't give up the chance it might be you and it was." Five squeezes my hand tightly and I squeeze back, a content smile on my face.
"I thought I saw you too, that's why you heard me..." he smiles at me quickly before focusing on the road again, letting myself drift off to sleep.
I was asleep for a long while until my love wakes me up again. "Hey sweetheart..." I hum softly against the fingers that brush against my cheeks, slowly opening my eyes to see Five leaning down to my height next to me outside the car. The passengers door was open and I slowly sit up, rubbing my eyes lightly when I feel something fall on my lap. It was my love's jacket and he moves to keep it around me as he unbuckled my belt for me.
"Where are we?" I was sleepy and he could tell as he helped me out of the car.
"Back at the hotel. I dropped your sister off at home." I nod, letting him lock his car and take me to the elevator tot ake us back to our hotel room. I press the floor button with my elbow, leaning against Five as he held me. "Almost there, I know you're tired." we walk up to the door, turning the door knob to walk through it and locking it behind us. I shover form the cold AC of the room, letting my love guide me to sit on the bed.
"I forget how it gets so fucking cold in here..." I grumble, watching Five as he went to the wardrobe to pick out some clothes for me to change into. "You know I can get dressed myself, right?" I yawn and he chuckles, pressing a kiss on my forehead.
"I know, but you look so adorable being all sleepy like this." He hands me my clothes and I let him shower first so I could sit in front of the mirror to take my makeup off. My sweet assassin comes out after he was done and I go to the bathroom to take a shower and clean up as well, washing everything off me before getting out and drying up. I change into my clothes, walking out to see Five on the bed as he scrolled on his phone. He looks up at me and smiles, opening the blanket for me and I drop down to lay on top of him which makes him laugh lightly. He leans behind me to put my phone on charge and turn the lamps off before cuddling me. "Night, my love." he kisses the side of my head that I had buried against his neck, his arms around me to keep me on his chest as I slowly went to sleep in the warmth of his arms.
"Night night..." I mumble drowsily, passing out asleep.
