"Shit!" I stand up in a crouched position to avoid the rain of bullets, running off away from Hazel and Cha-Cha. I stand behind them as they continued to fire at Five as he dodged the bullets, grabbing Dolores and hiding. "I have to help him somehow! But how!?"
"You see that?" Cha-Cha says.
"You said he was special. So what now?" Hazel called after her and they make a plan to meet in the middle from either ends of the store.
"Shoot anything that moves!" Cha-Cha exclaims and I run ahead of them, standing just beside where they are aiming and I see Five on the other side of me.
"Five!" He looks at me with furrowed brows, his eyes widening and shaking his head for me to go hide. "Run!" I throw him a thumbs up despite him trying to get me to stay safe and I focus on my hands. I flex them seeing them become solid and I start pushing and shoving some of the racks next to me as I run away from him.
"He's there! Get him!" Cha-Cha yells, running after me and I shriek out when a bullet grazes past my cheek.
I hiss when the cold air hits the small wound but I keep going, looking behind me to only see Cha-Cha following me. "You've got to be kidding me! Where's Hazel!?"
"I said to get out (y/n)!" Five hisses at me as he teleports behind Cha-Cha and she turns around, not aiming her gun at me but falls to the floor when he slashes at her with a gardening spade.
For something so blunt I didn't expect to actually cause some major damage.
Five grabs my hand again tightly and he drags me along with him, the both of us dodging bullets that fly around us. He holds me to his chest, grabbing Dolores and shoving her into a duffel bag as we crouched down to hide behind some racks.
"What are you doing!?" he hisses at me lowly when I stand up, seeing Hazel and Cha-Cha getting closer and closer to where we were hiding at. I shriek lightly when I get pulled down by my arm, falling on my ass next to Five.
"They are coming here. One on either side of us. The only way to escape is to run back. I'll distract-"
"-no you are not! You may not be in physical form but you can still get hurt. I'm not taking that chance. Not again!" Five growls out as he holds my shoulders and tries to keep me with him, narrowing his eyes at me to listen to him.
"Too bad." he looks at me in confusion and I throw a shoe-that I managed to actually grab and not a stupid copy-as hard as I could behind Hazel's direction, getting his attention as he walks that way. I bolt out of Five's hands and body slam into Cha-Cha harshly, kicking the back of her knee hard. "RUN FOR FUCKS SAKE!" I scream out and I see Five's head pop up from above the clothes rack before he bolts away.
"Hazel! Get the fuck over here! Someone else is here besides that asshole!" I turn towards Hazel and grab a broom, running over to the giant man.
"What the fuck!?" I non-stop smack Hazel's injured hand in the elastic splint, suddenly getting headbutted by the end of the rifle.
I stumble back from the hit, wincing as I rub my forehead and I open my eyes to see Hazel pointing the rifle directly at my face. "Oh fuck-" I try to drop down to dodge the bullet, closing my eyes in fear when I hear the gunshot go off.
I don't feel any pain.
I'm not in pain.
Did the bullet just go through me-
"-OH HELL NO!" I scream out when I open my eyes, flailing my arms when I realise I was floating up. I try to grab something to hold onto but I was spinning around, gasping when my back softly collides against the department store ceiling. My heart races in my chest, my fear of heights coming to strangle me as I see how far I am from the floor. "YOU'VE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME RIGHT NOW!?" I cry out, barely holding onto the exit sign for my goddamn life. I see Five run towards me, trying to teleport away but he fails as his powers sputter out. "FIVE!" I yell out and he looks around for me before looking up, his eyes widening in shock.
"What the-"
"-I CAN'T GET DOWN!" I continued to flail my legs and arms around, trying to swim in the air but I screwed myself over when I started to turn upside down. "No, no no no no no!" I floated until I could feel the ceiling against my feet, my hair falling down like a messy curtain. "Ugh, I don't feel so good." My stomach churns when my brain is trying to process the way I was seeing things, all upside down and just weird.
I see an upside Hazel and Cha-Cha getting closer to Five and I grit my teeth as I rip off the exit sign, pelting it at Hazel's face and he falls back with a loud yelp of pain. I groan out, feeling light-headed as I closed my eyes but I knew that I couldn't stay stuck up here while Five was powerless.
"I feel like I'm going to puke." I mumble out but open my eyes, turning to my right to see a pole next to me and I gulp. "Fuck..." My vision starts to distort and fade and I try to blink it away as blood was rushing to my head, letting out a shaky breath when I crouch down on the ceiling to plant my hands on the tiles. Vertigo hits me like a truck as I slowly move my feet one in front of the other, shuffling towards the pole. I slowly crabwalk towards it, flinching at the sounds of gunshots still ringing out and I grab the pole. "Finally!" I grab hold of the pole with my arms around it but I seemed to have an issue with my legs. My legs were being pulled up like something was attracting them. "Houston, we have a problem..." I look behind me, feeling them get pulled up as if gravity completely switched on me and was being like 'sike bitch'. I try to pull myself down the pole but my hands were sweating and I kept floating back up. "Come on!" I hiss out in annoyance and I manage to grab hold of a clothing rack, crawling over baskets and mannequins.
I finally reach the table where Five was hiding behind when police sirens ring through the air in the distance, distracting the mask-wearing bozos. "The bastard jumped again." the two assassins soon leave and I sigh in relief when I float down behind the table with the terrified boy, his eyes wide as he was looking at me.
"Hey... you're ok." I whisper with worry, noticing how Five was holding onto Dolores tightly, panting softly. "They're gone..." I gently lay my hand on his arm and he lets out a breath he was holding, that panic fading away instantly and he drops his head back against the table. "Five?" I look at him with a frown, moving to grab a small towel to just wipe his face softly. He looks at me with wide eyes as I dry off his forehead, his eyes locked on me and my heart aches to see him lean into my hands with such a tired expression. "You're not at the Commission, you're not in the apocalypse. You're here, present... ok? You're here with me." I mutter and he nods against my palms, moving to set Dolores to the side and he drops his forehead against my chest. My heart races and he sighs in relief hearing another form of life beating in front of him, holding my arms tightly and I gingerly brush his hair back. I wish I could let him stay like this as long as he wanted but we needed to move.
"Search the building!" I hear multiple men surrounding the building and we both shoot up with worry.
"We need to go. Now." I say and Five nods, blinking at me in shock when I start to float up again. "Shit!" I quickly grab onto his arms and he holds onto my elbows tightly.
"What's happening!?" he whispers and I shake my head, unsure but he purses his lips, grabbing some rope and I move to wrap my arms around his shoulder to hold onto his blazer tightly.
"I'm surprised you didn't start floating too." I chuckle softly as he quickly stuffs Dolores and the rope in his bag and holds my hands on his shoulders tightly around him.
"Hold on tight." I pull myself closer when he runs off through the back exit just as the front doors of the department were thrown open. Five tightens his grip on my arms, my face buried against his shoulder as the wind whips past us. "We're safe now." Five puffs out, not used to running when he could teleport but that doesn't seem to be working now.
"Now what? You're gonna tie me up like your own personal balloon animal?" he walks up to a lamp post and I cling to it as he takes out the rope from the bag. "Wait, you're actually going to do that!?"
"Do you have a better idea?" He raises a brow at me and I huff out.
"No..."
"Thought so." Five continues to tie one end of the rope onto his bag and walks up to me.
I loop a leg around the lamp to make it easier for him and he steps closer to me. His hands wrap around my waist and I notice how close he was to me as his hands lay on my hips. I become flustered when he glances up at me briefly before focusing on tying the rope, my breath hitching when he steps closer to peer over my shoulder to make sure it was tight around me. I could feel his breath fan against my cheek, gasping softly when he suddenly tugs on the rope hard to tighten it. He steps back and lets go of my hips, holding onto the rope attached to his bag. I was surprised that the rope was actually staying around me.
The rope isn't phasing through me?
Am I getting the hang of whatever the hell is going on with me?
I hope so.
Wait. Are these my... powers?
Do I get powers!?
"Do I just like, let go now?" I clear my throat, worried about letting my leg go from around the pole in case I just float away.
"Yes." I scrunch my face at Five's deadpan answer.
"What if I just float away into space!?"
"We won't know until it happens." I gasp and he just shrugs, a smug grin on his face.
