What's a Soul Without Some Secrets.
Finally finding out his name was certainly a success to the night. When he had left I scribbled his name onto his first photo and placed it in my living room instead of creepily on my bedside since it was a work in progress now. Sadly my schedule was booked so if I wanted to mope and wait for him to call back I couldn't. During my schedule I definitely wanted to find time to frame and arts and crafts his photos into a collage project of sorts.
It was almost light out when all 30 had been scrapped down to 5. 5 photos from the restaurant that showed some speck of personality. Most of the time it was a smirk, not a full smile, which was partially disappointing. Hopefully he follows through on his promise to see each other again.
Getting a full smile was my new goal. However my current need was sleep. I had appointments in an hour and hadn't gotten a lick of sleep.
Rushing back to my bed, I dived in, and fumbled to get into the right spot. Somehow I dozed off quickly, despite harry running through my mind.
Suddenly I was on full alert as my eyes scanned my room. My ears registered my ringtone coming from my nightstand, my body working on autopilot. Plopping onto the squeaky bed, I grabbed my phone and placed it on speaker phone.
"Hello?" I grumbled out.
"Oh were you sleeping love?" his clear voice spoke through.
"Yeah but it's okay! What's up?" I perked up, jumping to my feet.
"I wanted to see if we could do something together soon? Are you available?"
"You mean today?" my feet made their way from my bed to my doorway swiftly.
"Yes."
"I'm sorry Harry. I'm booked until dinner today if I even can have dinner," sitting back onto my bed I slouched into myself.
"That's alright Hun. I can call back another time?" he questioned softly.
"Okay. Sorry again," I mumbled into the phone.
"It's okay, Bye." he replied dispirited and quickly.
The phone went dead and returned to my home screen before I even uttered another word.
Seeing the time though, I knew I should get ready. Of course I felt slightly defeated and rejected myself despite me rejecting him. Great start to the relationship am I right?
My first appointment is another senior picture but this time Christian was coming in to observe. In the time I had, I needed to run to my studio before the clients got there and hopefully Christian will already be there for a run through.
Half an hour later and Christian and I were stood behind my tripod, mumbling to each other. A light brunette, with at least 5 inch heels, stood in front of the blue screen I had set up. Her hand sat on her hip, leg bent as she chewed some gum. Cliche didn't even begin to describe her but If we were at a club I'd be getting a real stripper vibe too.
"Alright Maggie. We're going to do a couple standing up first so could you please stand up completely straight." Looking through the camera, I watched as she shifted her position and lifted her chin. An un-amused expression coated her face though, not really bringing a welcoming attitude for her pictures.
"Remember what I told you, okay?" I whispered to Christian as I moved aside, his face taking its position behind the camera.
"She seems bored," he stated to me. His observation was right on point, perfect for this photo-shoot.
"Cheer her up then!" Smirking at him I watched as he looked up shocked, communication or flirting probably wasn't his strong skill.
"I thought I just take the picture? Aren't there details or things I need to do with the Camera or something?" his voice reached a higher pitch as he looked at me and back at the girl.
"No. Photography is about your surroundings and how you interact with them. So, interact!"
"Oh. Okay," he mumbled hesitantly.
"So. Um. Maggie is it?"
"Yes." Her tone was almost as sharp as her jaw line.
"What do you like to do for fun?" his voice seemed more of a question to himself than her.
"Excuse me?" she clearly demanded.
"What are your hobbies?" finally he started clicking some photos despite her not smiling.
"Horseback riding. Why?" she wasn't speaking harshly anymore but was still very unsure of this conversation.
"Wouldn't you rather be on the back of a horse than here with us?" I interjected jokingly.
"Well of course," giggling softly she stood up a little taller and smiled slightly. Thankfully Christian captured a few photos.
"You going to go riding later today?" Christian spoke up finally, a little confidence showing.
"Yes. I have a competition coming up and we're very nervous so we've been practicing a lot."
"We?" he spoke softly.
"Yeah! Me and my horse Penny."
"What does Penny look like?"
"He's a beautiful black Friesian horse. I named him penny because he used to do dressage so he still has some pep in him."
"Well Maggie you can go have fun with Penny because we're finished with your photos!" patting Christian on the back I nodded to Maggie as she smiled and almost galloped out the room herself.
"See. Her pictures are going to have a genuine smile because you interacted with her and asked her about herself."
"I don't see why I had to though," his eyebrows were furrowed as he watched the door shutting behind Maggie.
"She was bored when she first was here. Now she's excited. She smiled because she talked about something she loved! That's why I said genuine,"
"Okay?"
"I'll send you a couple of the photos and some of my others and see the difference between the first few and the last. Sound like easy homework?"
"I guess. I'll see you next week then!" he waved goodbye as he grabbed his own, untouched, camera bag and headed out the door as well.
He probably wanted to take his own photos for himself but there's always something else to learn before you actually take action yourself. I Definitely have to make note to give him some actual useful time with the camera since these senior pictures were probably dulling his love for photography, I know they make it hard for me to get up and do this.
Slowly I mulled through ideas that would match with his ideals of photography that he showed me the first time we met. He did like the details a picture could show so maybe city pictures? But who doesn't have that in their portfolio these days. He said he appreciated the work displayed at his school once upon a time, another mental note to go check out whats there. Maybe I granted them permission ages ago, memory is not my strong point so maybe mental notes weren't a good idea either.
