. Prologue
Dear Diary,
My family is a simple one; we're like every other family. At least I think that we are alike with other families.
The Alexiou-Park family was a normal family in most aspects. A well-respected family at that, due to the large shopping center they owned in Royal Woods.
Their mother, Yeeun, is from a high class family in South Korea, and their father, Jason, is from a wealthy family in Greece. Both of them came to the United States for studies and ended up at the same international University.
Not that it was a simple love story, but in the end, they did get married to one another in their last year at University. The only thing was that Yeeun refused to change her last name because it was against the norms of Korean culture. Jason truly did not care, and he did not want his wife to drop her traditional customs.
It felt uncomfortable though when the Americans would call Yeeun by her husbands last name, instead of her own. She would be too scared to tell them the truth, so instead she told her husband about the situation.
And the next time it happened, Jason simply told them that she did not take his last name after their marriage. The others were somewhat confused and shocked as to why she did not take his last name or even add it to hers, but eventually everyone got used to this fact.
After their last year of university, the pair decided that it would be best for them to stay in the United States since that is where they met. Instead of trying to pick between their home countries.
Eventually they found a small town called Royal Woods, just three hours away from the University they attend. They believed that would be the best place for them to live, so they bought a house in Royal Woods.
I remember once hearing my father say that my mother used to be like me. I honestly still do not believe him.
The two had a happy marriage. Of course they experienced some ups and downs every now and then, but they always worked through them together.
Having children was one of those downs. Yeeun was not the best mother and at times cared more about her image then her own children which caused arguments between the married couple.
Mina and Isadora came on, one year apart from each other. As children in elementary school, they did everything with one another. But once Mina went to middle school, it all changed.
But my sister, as she got older, just left me.
The two no longer hung out all the time; the only time they spoke with one another was during car rides and dinner. Other than that, it was uncommon for the sisters to speak to one another, even if they were in rooms right by each other.
Mina got a name suggested by her grandmother on her mothers side. She was that girl that everyone wanted to be. Beautiful, with tons of friends, able to get any boyfriend that she wanted and people that would do anything for her even if they did not know her. But her personality was not something that corresponded with her beauty.
Unlike Isadora who was beautiful on the inside and the outside. She was named after her great grandmother who passed at the early age of 20 on her fathers side. She was quiet and simply did not like large amounts of attention on her. She preferred to keep a small group of friends and had a passion for photography and videography.
