II. Geometry girl

Dear Diary,

Today is the second day of high school; the first day went pretty well. Today we're going to actually go by our normal schedule, which is good but also bad.

That means school is going to become school soon, with a bunch of work. Work that no one wants to complete, and teachers keep piling up.

Isadora and Gianna sat at their desks, talking with one another. "Hm, well, I'm excited to see who I have in all my classes," the girl exclaimed with a bright smile on her face.

"Same, I hope there are some cute boys." Gianna put her phone down on the table and looked up at her friend.

Since it is still only the second day, no advisory assignments have been put out at the moment. So everyone in the classroom was talking to people they had just met or had already met.

"Can someone please pass these out?" The teacher asked over all of the noise. Isadora raised her hand to volunteer, but someone else beat her to it, which caused a mediocre frown to appear on her face.

She watched as the girl passed out the student IDs, halfway listening to the words spewing out of her friend's mouth about some boy.

I love Gianna with all my heart, but when will she grow up and talk about something other than a boy who she's not even going to talk to for longer than two weeks?

Isadora glanced at her friend's ID when it got put on the desk, then looked up, expecting to get hers next. The girl in red handed the card to her, saying, "Most people's school IDs look horrendous, but I mean, you look perfect in yours".

She looked up at her in shock and opened her mouth, but it took her too long to respond. "Oh, I thank you," she mumbled, and her head quickly went back down. The girl laughed a little and counted, passing out the few cards she had in her hand.

The girl in red, whom I bumped into yesterday, told me that I looked perfect in my photo. I didn't even know how to react in the moment because I was shocked. But then I was able to get at least a thank-you out. I would've felt horrible if I hadn't.

"I'm sorry, Gi, could you repeat that? I wasn't listening?" Isa said with a small shake of her head as she turned back over to her friend, who was looking at her with a small smirk. "Ah, what was that? Between the two of you".

She looked at her confusedly and said, "What do you mean, she complimented me, that's all". The other girl shook her head, side to side, and said, "And I quote, you look perfect. Nobody just says that, Isa!" Gianna smiled.

"Stop trying to make me," she paused for a second, thinking, "what were they saying on TikTok? Oh! Stop trying to make me delusional like you, Gianna." Isadora snickered. "I am not Delulu!" shut up". The bell rang, and Isadora got up.

"Don't be rude, because I said nothing but the truth," was the last thing she said before she got her bag and left the classroom, entering the hallway. She immediately pulling out her phone so she could check the photo of the schedule.

"Science class, room 202, upstairs" She whispered to herself and walked to the front of the school to go to the front stairs since those were the ones she was familiar with. Soon she made it up the stairs and saw that the science room was the first class.

She walked into the classroom and went up to the teacher's desk, as it said so on the board. "Name?" He asked as he looked down at a piece of paper in his hand. "Isadora Alexiou," he nodded and pointed to the table in front of him.

Isa took that as meaning that's where her seat is, so she walked over and sat down. She saw the empty chair next to her and wondered who would be the person to sit next to her-if even anyone does.

She put her bag on the floor next to her and hoped it would not get dirty. "I should put my phone in here too," She said to herself once again, and she put her phone in her book bag on the side so it could be easily accessible in case of emergencies.

Isadora put her head down on the desk and looked around, waiting for class to start. She saw a familiar face come into the classroom and sit next to her. Hey," The girl in red said as she sat down next to Isa.

"Hi, so I guess we have this class together too, huh?" She gave her a quick smile and put her head up. "Guess so, I'm not complaining though." The girl looked over at her with a small smirk on her face but then looked away when the teacher started talking.

I was somewhat familiar with the girl I sat next to in my science classes. We talked a little; we really only exchanged like five words, but that's okay!

"Okay class I am your science teacher, Mr. Cross." He said this as he changed the board to a slide show. "So today, we'll just be going over the classroom rules and what I expect for this year." Everyone stayed silent and just kept their eyes on the board.

He spoke of some things they will be doing this year and the rules, but his presentation ended earlier than expected. "How about we do an icebreaker?" The teacher asked, looking at the students with a smile.

"NO!" Isadora blurted out by accident, "Sorry." She put her head down in embarrassment. "It's okay; I guess you guys will get to know each other as time goes on." He sat back down at his desk and went to the computer.

It took a while, but students eventually started talking to one another, causing the volume of the classroom to get louder and louder. "What's your deal with ice breakers?" Her tablemate asked as she looked at him.

Isa put her head up and looked over at the girl. "It's just awkward and hard to come up with random fun facts about myself." She mumbled and sat up in the chair, fixing her posture. The girl nodded her head and said, "Not for me; most of my facts would be about sports".

Oh, so you're an athlete; what sport do you play?" Isa tilted her head to the side, intrigued by the somewhat stranger. "Sports, plural. I play soccer, baseball, basketball, basically any sport you could think of".

"Oh wow, that's amazing. I'm more into art and stuff, mainly photography." The girl nodded. "That's cool. Did you sign up for the photography club?" She asked. Isadora's eyes sparkled Yeah, I did actually!".

"So you're going to have to come to some of my games and take pictures of me. I can't wait to see them." Then the bell rang, signaling they had to go to their next class. Isadora got out of her chair and went down to pick up her bag, struggling a bit due to the weight but getting it on her shoulder.

"Math next," She thought to herself, and she walked out of the classroom, remembering the math room was right by her science one. She walked down the hallways in the direction she needed to go and saw that she was going in the same direction as the girl in red.

And she walked into the math classroom. "So we have this class together too, good to know," Isa whispered to herself. She walked into the classroom and saw her friend Harley already sitting down.

A smile emerged on her face as she walked over to her friend and sat down. "Hey Harley." The girl looked over and smiled at her friend, saying, "Hi Isa".

"Me and the others were looking for you this morning, but we couldn't find you." Isa asked, "Oh, my alarm didn't go off."

Isa nodded and saw the teacher place a piece of paper in front of her. Her eyes squinted as she looked at the math problem. "Work on the second day, crazy," She mumbled.

"So my name is on the board, but for the duration of class, I just want you guys to work on this sheet," She said before she sat back down at her desk.

Isa looked down at the paper and sighed, "Why algebra? Why can't it be geometry?" She started answering the questions she knew.

We had work on the basically first day of school. It's for her to see where we're at, I guess, but I'm already hating that 9th grade is mainly algebra; take me to 10th so I can get Geometry!

"Harley, what's the answer to five?" She looked over at her friend with hopeful eyes. No, Isa, it's a placement test so she can see where you need help. If I give you the answer, then she'll never know," she mumbled, keeping her eyes on the paper.

Fake," She said, half-joking, and looked back down at the paper. The teacher was walking around and asking if people needed help; soon she got to Isa. "I need help," the teacher said, stopping and nodding her head. "With which ones?"

"All the ones I didn't answer already." Mrs. Welch looked down at the paper and said, "You're on the right track." Isa nodded and looked down on her paper as the teacher explained. She then wrote down the rest of the problem and the answer.

"Good! You were just second-guessing yourself." The teacher smiled and went to walk around the class to help others.

The bell rang, and Isadora finished her last question just as it did. She sighed in relief and grabbed her bag and paper, walking to the front of the class to turn them in. She pulled out her phone again to look at her schedule.

"Oh wait, lunch goes off fourth period, and my fourth period is A lunch, so I just go straight to lunch instead of going to class first," She said aloud to herself, and then also smiled, remembering her friends had lunch with her as well.

She decided to put her book bag in her locker before she made it to lunch, and Harley went along with her. "Do you think we'll have somewhere to sit?" Harley asked, nervousness lacing her voice.

She pushed her book bag inside and closed the locker. "Yeah, nobody is going to change their seats from yesterday." The two in the hallway then made their way down the hallway to the cafeteria. When they made it, they saw how people were walking around the cafeteria, sitting down, or still in line.

Isa grabbed a tray and got in line, but then recognized the people In front of her. She snuck up behind one of them and put her hand on their shoulder, making her jump. They turned around quickly and frowned. Isadora, that's not funny!" Nyla said.

She snickered Yes, it was". They all went through the line, grabbing the food they wanted, and Isa made sure to get some fruit. They then sat down in the seat they did yesterday-Nyla and Harley sitting next to each other, Gianna and Isadora sitting next to each other on the other side.

"Just warning you guys, you have work in math," Isadora said as she started eating her food. "Work? Already! What type of system is this?" Gia said, dramatically causing Nyla to shake her head.

"It's probably a placement test. Most classes are going to be starting work by tomorrow anyway, so you guys better get used to it." Ny shrugged and then gave her friends a teasing smile. The four continued talking about random things for the duration of lunch.

Then they went on to their classes until they reached their last period, which was the 8th period.

School was honestly not that bad today; the only Classes we did work in were Math and English. But I guess we'll start work soon in every class, so it doesn't matter.

OH! and I realized something: the girl in red and I share the exact same schedule from the beginning of the day's advisory to the end of the day's study hall. Yet I still don't even know her name.
