The Amazon Rainforest Burns
Our lungs burn-
Hundreds of acres of green
Subsumed, consumed, converted
Into hellish red, orange, yellow
A cancer spreading across its surface.
The Amazon rainforest,
The lungs of our world,
Put to death by greedy gold-tooth men
Hungering for now, now, now
With the patience of five-year-old brats.
They've filthied our planet with their grubby hands
Dipped in black money, lawsuits and robbery
Now drowned in the blood of our Mother.
We've fed them and comforted them
And soothed their tantrums
Now they, unsatiated, do what they've learned to-
Take, take, take like they always have.
A forest burns, taking with it
30 million people and a fifth of our oxygen,
The tears of a planet and hope for our futures.
The Amazon rainforest burns,
And so do we.
