Strange, foreign words
Rapidly tossed back and forth
Between hundreds of people
I'm supposed to understand.

But I don't.

Because I'm from a different state
Which feels like a different country
Altogether.

I'm trilingual
I know three languages
I'm learning a fourth
Now I have to learn a fifth
And a sixth and a seventh and an eighth
Because no matter where I go
I'm still a stranger
Who doesn't get it.
And never will.
