CHAPTER 6
CHAPTER 6:
Field Trip.
Raven
"You've met Loki?"
"Yeah, he's pathetic," I shrugged.
"Last I checked, Loki is a Norse God."
"There's been greater ones and lesser ones than Loki who have asked for my hand in marriage," Now they were interested.
"Loki asked you to marry him?" Ava whispered in a shocked tone.
"Yeah, but I was only sixteen at the time and there was no way I was gonna marry him. It gets boring after awhile, all those guys asking and asking."
"But I'm guessing those guys weren't human?" Sam guessed.
"Bingo."
"Oh my god, look at Jared."
"Uh, hello! Look at Jacob!"
"Jesse is the real hottie here!"
Hm?
"Ugh, they've been talking about those new guys all day," Sam crossed his arms.
"I don't know, Jesse is kinda cute," Ava commented.
"What do you think, Raven?" She turned to me.
"Meh, I've seen better."
"May we move on from the topic of boys? They do not seem like the friendly type," Danny spoke up, his brows slightly furrowed and sending a slight glare towards them.
We walked around a bit more while Peter hung back. We approached another Norse stone, but this one had writing on it.
"This is a Frost Giant stone," I mumbled.
"What? No way, it's just a rock," Sam dismissed.
"I studied ancient techs in K'un Lun, let me see. Warrior, be afraid. Of the coming winter?" He read out, and not even half a second after, the stone started glowing and producing snow like a blizzard.
"Uh oh. . ."
"Did you actually just-?!" I looked at Danny with a baffled expression.
He shrugged with an apologetic look.
A Frost Giant appeared from the snow, roaring and holding a club.
"Buddy systems! Now! No man gets left behind!" Colson shouted at the running students.
"You're on," He turned to us.
"Azerath Metrion Zinthos!" My suit immediacy covered me.
"Azerath Metrion Zinthos!" I lifted up two giant boulders and smashed the Frost Giant against the side of its head, but that only made it angrier.
"Azera-! Ah!" It swung its hand at me and knocked me into one of the pillars.
And apparently, it was kicking all of our butts.
I flew behind it and shot at its feet, making it tumble over onto some artifacts.
"You must have a weak spot. . ." Danny mumbled as it got back up and immediately spotted him.
"Agh!" Just as it swung its club down, Luke ran and grabbed it before it hit Danny.
"Dude, now is not the time to be thinking!"
"Iron Fist, stop waiting for the perfect move! Powerman, don't just-agh!" He shot ice straight at Ava and she launched into a glass display.
"Tiger!" And it swung, easily taking Danny and Luke out.
"Come. On!" The black mass wrapped around its body, trying to enclose it and I kept my palms closed as tight as I could.
But it was strong.
"Someone fucking help me!" My voice distorted as my nails dug deeper into my palms and blood began dripping onto the floor.
"Come on, guys! Less talking, more teamwork!" Peter swung up, taking its advances and attention away from me and I let it break through to go after him.
Shit!
That stings.
"You oka-? Okay, yup, that's not good," My nails had started to sharpen when it started to overuse my powers and dug deeper than I thought, but luckily they returned back to their normal human nails.
"I'll be fine, Nova," I dismissed the pain as I got ready to fight again.
"Phoenix, I don't think that's exactly fi-" Lightning struck the ground from above, and just from the immense power I was feeling, I already knew who it was.
"Is that. . .?"
"Yup, that's Thor."
"FOR ASGARD!" Thor cried out, mjolnir collecting lightning around it to strike at the Frost Giant as it started building up a wall of ice.
"Stand back! The matters of Asgard are no place for oddly dressed younglings," Thor put his hand up.
Ouch.
"Did he just call us younglings?"
"And oddly dressed. Yeah, Sam, maybe," Peter dissed Sam, who threw him a glare.
"Thor, look! We got amazing spider powers, mad bad super strength, awesome dark abilities, kung-fu master, super tiger mojo, and annoying cosmic bucket head! We can help you take down that big ugly," Peter offered, but I already knew the answer, especially when it's coming from the Prince of Asgard himself.
"Your bravery is admirable, but the 'big ugly', as you call it, is a Frost Giant. A common thief," Thor held his arm back when we came charging, once again putting us on a time out.
"He did not just diss us!"
"Thor would have to notice us to diss us," I crossed my arms.
And just with a swing of mjolnir, the Frost Giant was out.
"Fortune was merciful on you today, you could have been hurt. Oh, Princess Raven! I did not see you there!" Thor smiled at me and I facepalmed.
"Princess?!"
"I'm not a princess, Thor. We've already talked about this," I grumbled.
"Anyone Loki considers worthy enough of offering his hand must be royalty. Here, allow me to heal your wounds," I held up my hands and then healed right then and there.
"No thanks."
"He has been wondering where you have been, Princess Raven. I did not expect you to stay on Midgar-"
"Not a princess, and I don't care," I cut him off.
"Ah! I see! Your father is hidden within your gem!" He pointed to my newly reattached gem on my forehead.
And my anxiety shot through the roof.
"Such great new-!"
"Just go!" I marched past him and past my teammates.
I hate Asgardians.
I hate Odin.
I hate Loki.
I hate Thor.
I-
"Let's take a deep breath. He who angers you, conquers you," Danny put his hand on my shoulder, and I turned around to face him.
"Asgardians are so difficult."
"This is just another roadblock to success. Come, let's join our tea-"
A green light emerged from the other room, vanishing just as quick as it came.
I recognize that green.
"What happen-? Oh shit," Out of all days, it had to be today that I see Thor Odinson has been turned into a frog.
"There is only one in all the Nine Realms who could accomplish such bewitchments," Thor cursed.
"The Wizard of Oz?"
"My evil half brother, Loki. Our father, Odin, is the ruler of Asgard. Ever since he was a child, Loki has sought that power for his own. No mischief that my brother will not attempt to disgrace me, take my father's throne, and seize control of Midgard and all the Nine Worlds," Thor explained, putting in some family history, although not as much as I know.
"Midgard, that's Earth, right? I've heard it somewhere," Peter mumbled.
"Trouble is at hand, I must return to Asgard at once."
There's no way he can do this by himself.
As much as I want to see him humiliated.
"We get it, you're hopping mad at your bro. . .okay, that one was lame. But, you're not exactly in a position to exact revenge," Peter was right. Thor isn't in his Adgardian form, so he can't fight like one.
"I am still Thor the Thunderer. Loki will face my. . ." A fly flew near him.
Please don't do it.
Please-
He ate the fly.
"Yeah, no, we're coming with you," I put my hands on my hips.
"Where I go is no place for mortals, but Princess Raven, you may accompany me. Perhaps you can talk my brother off of his antics."
"Thor, you said Loki plans to conquer the Nine Worlds. Earth is one of those worlds!" Ava wasn't about to let a frog Thor handle Loki alone.
"Oh, not to mention there's that insy weensy detail that you are a frog!" Peter expressed, to which Thor sighed in defeat.
"Oh, so be it," Thor spun his hammer, lightning collecting around it before striking at the wall and opening a portal to Asgard.
"Will you be alright?" Danny asked.
"Seeing Loki again? Yeah. Fighting him? I don't know," I sighed.
"Thou art entering the realm of Asgard, prepare for wonders beyond your imagination," Thor looked at the bridge with a smile, ready to step back into Asgard.
"Sweet!"
But it was one of Lokis illusions, because as when we entered, Asgard was covered in ice and any Asgardian in sight was frozen.
Women. Children. Fathers.
Remain calm.
We'll free these people.
"Asgard covered in ice?! No! Then Loki has already seized control!" Thor cried out.
"Beware, young heroes," He warned as we went on, but our footprints barely went five feet out before Loki knew we were here.
"Loki! Come out!"
"Thor, no!" I yelled, trying to keep him quiet but he was already frozen.
"Team, we-" I looked back to see them frozen too.
"Ah ah ah, my sweet little Raven. How touching of you to see me again."
"You bastard-! Agh!" With just the snap of his fingers, he had a chain in his hands that led to a metal collar around my throat.
"Temper, temper. Now, let us get you inside. You must be so cold."
______________
"Tell me, how is your father?"
"He still hates you just as much as I do," I growled, and he yanked the chain so I was in his face.
"Hm, I see. Sorry Trigon, but your daughter is mine for the taking," Loki cackled, looking into the stone that held him.
Disgusting pig.
"Brother! Release us or I'll-!"
"It was so easy to use your arrogance against you, brother. You never could resist showing off against Frost Giants, one reason why I made a pact with them.
I set the stage and you came blestering in, warts and all. This magical stone of Norn is what transformed you, but it was your pride that made you a frog. With it, I keep everyone in Asgard locked in ice.
As for our father, he sleeps. Recharging his powers in the Odinsleep. He dreams, unaware that my Frost Giants will make his rest more. . .permanent," Loki smirked, playing with the ball that he trapped Thor in.
I feel so weak.
One Asgardian and suddenly I'm a slave wife.
"What I have been denied in these long centuries is at last within my grasp! Thor dishonored, Loki triumphant-"
"Hey Jokey! Sorry to ruin the moment, but we might have something to say about that triumphant stuff. How are we doing on the Iron Fist action?" Peter turned to Danny, who had his palm on the ice they were trapped in.
"Patience is a virtue."
I'm not being very patient!
"And then there are these," Loki yanked on the chain, dragging me along with him towards my team.
"I wonder Thor, keeping pets of your own?"
"He did not just call us pets!" Ava snapped.
"Says the girl dressed as a cat," Sam sassed.
"Found it," Danny smirked before him and Luke both punched the ice, successfully breaking free.
"Let. Me. Go!" I thrashed around, trying to tear the collar off, but my powers aren't working do there's no way I can do this myself.
"You should have taken my offer the first time, my dearest Raven," Loki smirked.
"I would have been nothing but a breeding tool to you!" I spit in his face, to which he wiped it away in disgust and slapped me and I hit the floor.
"And is that such a bad thing-?" I blinked and he vanished right before my eyes, then heard groaning and saw him cradling his jaw and few feet away from me.
"Raven! Does it hurt?" Danny ran to my side, helping me up.
"Nothing I haven't experienced before. I'll be fine," I ignored the stinging in my cheek.
He tore the chain off, but the metal collar stayed on, "Let's go."
"Frog prince! I'm ordering a tactical retreat!" Peter grunted, all of them still trying to fight off the Frost Giants but none of us stand a chance.
"By Odins beard! This is humiliating," Thor swung hus hammer and just like that, we were gone.
I landed on the snow with a grunt, the cold starting to get to me.
"What are we thinking?! Fleeing from battle?! The son of Odin would ne-!"
"Would you stop with the attitude? No one likes running away. Personally, what I hate more than running away is getting obliterated! Which is exactly what would have happened if we stayed!" Peter made a valid point, and I'm actually happy we got out of there alive.
"We need to evaluate sources, inventory strengths, assess weakness. You know, come up with a real plan," Peter crossed his arms.
"May I?" Danny referred to holding me, keeping me warm and I nodded, and he held me close in his arms.
He remembered I hate being touched.
"Oh yeah? And who put you in charge? I was doing pretty good back there," Nova was bitter.
"You got stuck in a ball!"
"Enough!" Danny shouted, shocking all of us, especially me.
"Raven was captured like a slave, and yet you ponder about a battle that put her life in danger? She is freezing because the collar eliminates her ability to use her powers, we should be working together and not fighting over this," I started to succumb to the darkness that was calling to me, letting myself fall asleep in his arms as my body still shook from the cold.
_____________
I feel. . .warm.
My eyes fluttered open and I immediately saw the open fire warming me up, and felt the wool from the blanket around me.
"To defeat Loki, you need to harness your strengths. . ."
"What about my strengths?" I spoke up, getting up from my spot near the fire.
"Raven! Thank goodness!"
"Raven, you should-" The dwarf put his hand up, keeping Sam silent.
"Raven, daughter of Arella, spawn of Trigon. You have had the power within you since the day you harnessed your father within this gem, yet you refuse to use it. You hold yourself back with those three words. Why?" I felt like no one could judge me in this moment, that I was in a safe place.
"Because I'm terrified. I have been taught my whole life to keep my emotions at bay, away from mixing with my powers because then I would become like him. I would look like him," I revealed.
"Raven, your team - your friends, they care about you and they worry for you. There will be shock, but no one is here to blame you for your heritage, only to encourage you to become better. To use what you created to your own advantage," He gestured to the gem.
"Use your power to its fullest and you will control your turn. You control this power, so do not let it continue to control you."
"But how can you be so sure?" I didn't want to risk letting out my true self. I hate my red skin, my eyes, my marks, and the way I acted.
"Only you can be so sure. All it takes is believing in harnessing your powers, and taking his."
Taking Trigons.
"I'll try."
As Thor spun his hammer, going into the castle first, I breathed in and out, preparing to face a Norse God.
A God that didn't love me.
Didn't respect me.
Wanted me to have powerful children.
To just use me.
Like Trigon.
I refuse to be used again.
I felt the collar around my neck start to bend, my rage becoming so strong that it was breaking past Lokis spell.
"Raven, what are you gonna do?" Luke asked carefully and I pulled my hood down.
Looking him in the eyes, I said,
"Something I should have done a long time ago."
The second we went through, Peter gave commands for the team while I made my way to Loki.
"You've returned! Come to realize your full potential, I see," He smirked.
"Nope."
With one movement, the collar was off and in a pile on the floor.
"H-How did you-?"
"I am more than you ever gave me credit for. I am not just a bride to be played with, I was never a bride! And you aren't Trigon, so don't go start collecting them because you'll never be as half as powerful as he was," I knew his weak points. His ego was one of them, and he glared daggers at me.
"Neither will you-!"
"Hybrids can be more powerful than their own parents, Loki. And besides, I'm not holding back anymore. So, let's give it a shot," I felt mg fathers power coursing through me, giving me an adrenaline rush and I have never felt so alive as I did in that moment.
He held up his staff and tried conjuring a spell, but I saw the green around it and held out my hand. The staff flew into my palm and I snapped it in half.
"Htaraza fo dog eht, razA nopu llac I,
Loof siht hcaet ot htgnerts em evig,
Deregna sah eh ohw."
For each spell he threw at me while I said my incantation, I dodged and used against him.
"Wait, wait, wait, listen, there was just-" My hand shot at his throat, my gem glowing with power.
"Die, Frost Giant scum."
I then brought him up and slammed him deep into the ground, going through the levels of the castle while his head banged and cracked into each crevice we hit. I then dragged him back up and shot his body through the doors, his weak half breed body going through trees and ice and I pushed him even further with my telekinesis.
With the snap of my fingers, he was back with his throat in my hands and blood covering his face.
"I am done with you. . .for now," And for the cherry on top, I slammed his head into the very throne he claimed was his.
Well. . .
That was. . .something.
