10: Ink and Oil

After saying their goodbyes to Lilac, Aphmau and Aaron continue with the rest of the day, Aphmau going through her art studies and getting mentally ready for her English and math classes tomorrow. While Aaron sits in the music room with a half deaf Professor, who of course is Professor Mellia.

"Alright, pick up. Aaron, take that garbage somewhere else, I do not tolerate that trash you call music." She's talking about his own original piece he is working on, it's a little bit  Spanish with some video game influences. But he thinks it sounds cool, thank you very much.

"At least I can tell when my pitch is off..." he mumbles under his breath, he's always hated Mellia, so much that he has to control his tongue to not waggle insults.

He trots down the hall with his guitar slung haphazardly across his back, the strings vibrating gently to the rhythm of his feet.

He glances around and then slides through a fake wall, popping out on the other side of the school where Aphmau just got out of class.

She doesn't expect him to be there, so she rams right into him, recognizing his warm embrace immediately.

"How did you get here so fast? Isn't your class in the south wing? This is the north." He chuckles, and blushes a little when she snuggles into him, she is oddly cold, and her scent is a little off, a little wolf-ish, but that may just be his own sent on her.

"Sorry, I've been a little cold since Grey attacked us. You're so warm." He pats her and takes her hand into his own, leading them to a fake wall that he knows leads right into the dorms.

"Uh...this is a wall." Aphmau looks up at her smirking friend, who, using his knowledge of the school pulls her through the fake wall.

She yells, but Aaron covers her mouth and snickers, this particular hallway is extremely dark, and cold, it's also a little creepy from the glistening cobwebs that hang from the ceiling, and the very dim mist that seems to permanently be in the abandoned hall.

He removes his hand, and on a whim, he decides to explore the hall, Aphmau hesitates, holding back something, and shivering.

"Aaron, can we just go home, something doesn't feel right in here." She looks around, feeling her head pound and an insistent chill that will not leave from her bones.

I cold, damp chill crawls up Aaron's spine, he smells nothing, but something is moving around them, watching them.

"Let's get out of here." Aaron starts to walk back towards the wall that leads to the dorms when something big, black, and covered in eyes rounds the corner, leaving a trail of ink in it's wake, it's dripping mouth gaping open in a permanent gaze of terror.

"Run!" Aaron sprints to the exit, grabbing Aphmau and pushing through the fake wall, not stopping until they got into the room
and locked the door firmly behind them.

"What. Was. That?" Aphmau breaths heavily shakily holding onto Aaron, who's ears and tail had poked out without his permission from the fear that had run through his veins like ice.

"I don't know, but I'm not using that passage ever again." He glances down at her his heart leaping when she presses into him, scared out of her mind and shaking.

"What if it comes here?" He brushes the back of her hair gently, his ears patted down close to his head, growling in a soothing way.

"I won't let anything hurt you." She looks up at him, blushing. Her heart trembling, she's never felt anything like this, and feels the need to purr into his chest.

He hears her soft purrs and his stomach jumps into his throat, preventing him from speaking, and he feels his eye's burn as they go back to steel.

"Follow me." Aaron flings Aphmau onto his back and leaps onto the windowsill, hopping onto the roof balancing himself with his tail.

"Ah! Aaron!" He zips through the tiled towers of the school, stopping when the sun is just starting to slip under the horizon, tinting everything a brilliant orange.

He chuckles as she gasps at the view, he enjoys the feeling of the cool wind blowing through his ears, and he breaths out, releasing some stress.

They sit down next to each other, watching the sunset, Aphmau curling up and making herself small, she should start wearing a jacket, it's a little nippy.

"Aaron. It's beautiful..." She glances at him, and is surprised when she catches him staring back at her, his face pink and his tail between his legs.

"Not as beautiful as you." He slides his ears down and blushes harder, looking away, but gulping when he feels a soft hand lace between his fingers, and hesitantly he turns to face her.

"Do you... mean that?" She looks almost hurt, like someone is lying to her, and his ears raise a little:

"Yeah, I...Think your beautiful..." This is the first time he had ever said these things out loud, but now that he is, it solidifies in his head that he lo-likes her a little more than a friend should.

Turning a brilliant shade of red, Aphmau breaks eye contact, looking down at the floor like it is the most interesting thing to her.

"T-Thank you..." A silence moves between them, but it's not an awkward silence, it's a silence of thought and peacefulness.

"H-Hey, what do you call a wolf in sheeps clothing?" Aaron breaks the silence and Aphmau looks at him with a bemused expression.

"I dunno, what?" She grins a little, glad to get back into joking around.

"A WearWoolf." A moment of silence goes past, and Aphmau starts giggling, before it evolves into flat out laughter. That Aaron soon joins in.

"Wow, that was so bad!" Aaron enjoys her smiling and laughter, a feels a swelling of pride in his chest knowing that he causes her happiness.

"What? I think it's amazing." He watches the sun move through her hair, and how her eyes twinkle back at him with a gentle glow, and the feeling of her hand laced into his.

"I....I'm in love with her" It's an obvious sentence, but it's the first time he's admitted it to himself, he's in love with his best friend.

"Aaron, why are you looking at me like that?" He grips her hand and looks down, smiling and looking back up, smiling and not trying to hide the emotion in his eyes.

"Aaron..." He leans in, lacing his fingers in her hair and resting his hand on her cheek, Aphmau turns a bright pink, and glances into his eyes.

"Aphmau..." centimeters apart now, Aphmau's eyes are half lidded, but her anxiousness makes her stomach feel like it's eating itself.

Crash!

A loud noise makes them jump back, Aaron leaps down so he can see through their window but cannot be seen, and fear runs through him like ice.

Someone had broken in, the door is swinging off it's hinges, a hooded someone in a black cloak ransacks everything, looking for something.

The hooded someone suddenly sniffs the air, and stares right into Aaron's eyes, the only thing Aaron sees is bright, yellow, angry eyes. He stays perfectly still, terrified out of his mind.

The yellow eyes squint in his direction, makes a slow barking sound and leaves, Aaron smells a horrific stench of oil and ink left behind, like someone had bathed in it.

The door shuts behind him, as the terrifying realization comes into Aaron's mind.

Whoever was just here could smell him, meaning they were a werewolf, and he knows, with all of his mind.

They had seen him
