Chapter 4: Live A Life You Will Remember
Ezra's POV:
"Ok, Ezra. We'll be back in a few hours. If something goes wrong-"
"Yeah, yeah, Kanan. I know. Call on the comm," I said irritably. Cancer, Anilara, Sylvia, and Jalmik had stayed with us last night. Not exactly my original plan, but, whatever. Kanan smiled a teasing smile and walked away with Hera, Sabine, Jalmik, Zeb, and Sylvia. I rolled my eyes and shut the Ghost up, just in case. "So... You guys just live in this thing? How do you keep it so clean?" Anilara said, leaning against a wall in the loading bay. I was a little shocked to see her there, but I tried to seem unafraid.
"Yeah, we live in this place. What about you?" I bite back. Anilara looked away, sympathy clouding her eyes.
"We have a lot in common," she said quietly, nearing a whisper. Avoiding the topic of where she used to live. Nice. (Sarcasm.) I walked over to the ladder, ready to climb up. "Hey! Do you always leave someone in mid conversation? Cause where I come from, that's considered rude!" she yelled up at me. I looked back down and smirked a smile. Playfullness glittered in her brilliant green eyes.
I climbed faster and ran to the balcony that over saw the loading bay. I waited patiently for her, hoping she would get the same idea.
And she did. She chased me around the Ghost, giggles and "ha ha's" escaping both of us. I smiled at her and skidded around a corner and waited for her to come around. I searched with the Force for her footsteps and her unfailing excitement. There was nothing in front of me. I opened my eyes and got to my feet, looking and listening for her.
"Anilara?" Suddenly, something hit me and I flew onto my chest with a sudden notion of what had happened. She stood there, holding her stomach, laughing. "Got you," she said, gasping for breath. For the first time, I'd been thinking of her as a sister. I got up and shouldered her, running for the ramp. She nodded and ran out into the glaring sunlight.
Her dark golden braid with streaks of dark red in it shimmered in it and her eyes were sharp, surprising and happy. She turned and flipped towards me, moving fast, but elegantly. I smiled and pushed her. She whipped around, a dangerous (but playful) look passed over her face. "I'm gonna get you!" she said, coming at me. I started running, feeling the wind in my black hair and the smell of the grass was intoxicating.
The pounding of feet behind me thrashed through the grass, making me aware of where Anilara was. I saw some tall white striped stones in front of us and I ran for them. I hid behind one and waited.
Anilara's POV:
Oh, he's going to pay for pushing me around. I skidded around the stone where Ezra sat, ready for him. But he wasn't there. I glanced around slyly and heard a the grass swish. I turned slowly and saw nothing but the wind fluffing it.
"Raaaaahhh!" Someone shouted and I lifted my head to see Ezra jump down off the stone and just barely miss me. I laughed and taunted him, racing around the stones. Ezra laughed too and caught me. We rolled through the grass and landed evenly on the ground. Except that it was a little awkward.
Ezra was on top of me, his hands planted to the ground next to my ears and I felt a cold shiver flash down my spine. "Uhhhhh...," was all I could muster to say. Ezra smiled and then it vanished when he realized what I was trying to say. He crawled away, his face growing darker and darker embarrassment. "S-sorry, Anilara. J-just got c-c-caught up in the game I guess," he stuttered.
I blinked at him. His light blue eyes were no match for the pale golden colored grass or the blazing light of the sun. And, what seemed like the first time ever, I actually noticed that he was handsome. I've never really seen or met any guys that I had liked, but Ezra was different. At the age of 15, it seemed that he knew how to have a good time more than any of the other crew members.
"As I was saying before," I said, braking the silence between us. "We have a lot in common. We're both Padawans, we both have light sabers, we've both got some good training in. Seriously, though. That blaster in your saber? Brilliant!" I said with a smile. Ezra whipped his head towards me, surprised at my sudden praise. The shocked look drained and filled back in with a charming smile.
"You ever shot a blaster before?" He asked. I felt awkward as I stared at my feet and curled my lips into my mouth and flicked them out again. I shook my head, but met that stunning blue gaze again. He was real lucky to have eyes like that... really lucky. They seemed to shine when he was excited or happy. But when he was ready to attack, I could see them reflecting blue fire into the enemy.
"Maybe I could teach you sometime," he sighed, lying back on his elbows, with his hands tucked under his head. He stared into the blueness of the sky, thinking of something. "You're not like most of the girls I've met. You're more of a-"
"Tomboy? Yeah. I know," I said. I looked at my hands and a small X-shaped scar on the back of my hand. I remember when I got it. There was a stormtrooper, and I was being pushed back to the edge of a building. "End of the line, rebel!" he said strongly. I took out my lightsaber and went for his head. He dodged and I tumbled to the ground, just scraping the X into my hand with my lightsaber's tip. I screamed so bad and ran. "What's that gold armor for anyways?" Ezra asked bringing me back to reality. I looked behind me and see the glittering armor. It sprawled up and curled over my shoulders and came down around my waist.
"I bought it. Just like your Master, Kanan and his arm armor, I wanted to look like a bounty hunter or something other than a Jedi," I explained. I placed my elbows on my knees. I could feel Ezra's eyes on me. They made me feel colder in the heat of the sunlight.
"Cool. Just wondering," he said with a smile. I looked back at him and he closed his eyes and seemed to relax.
Cancer was waiting for us at the Ghost when we got back. "Where have you two been? I hope you haven't been makingout?" she taunted. Ezra made a frustrated groan, and narrowed his eyes.
"No, Cancer. Just... went out for a walk," I said. Ezra nodded and walked past my master. Her eyes glowed with laughter at my response.
"Oh, just shut up," I seared and sat down on the ramp. I needed some time to myself, some time to think of what had just happened...
