22.
The two assassins were supposed to come out in three minutes, but they waited two more minutes as extra precaution thinking it might take longer than usual for the gas to reach everywhere in the spacious dome.
They did not want to fall into the eyes of someone who was still somehow conscious inside. There was no harm in being a little late.
After five minutes on the watch, Alpha One looked at his partner and shook his head, and then opened the door and walked out of the operation center.
Because of the gas mask, the poisonous air couldn't harm them, even in the dark, their night-vision goggles could see everything clearly though it was green everywhere. They hurried up now- the effect of the gas will last for half an hour.
Every human being here will be unconscious till then, they have to finish their job and get out of the ice shelf within this time.
Having the blueprint of the dome with them, it didn't take them long to reach the security chief's room. The killers happily entered through the open door. But over there, there
happiness turned into surprise after seeing the scene. On the floor and inside the attached bathroom-
four bodies were found, but they were of three security guards and their boss... but not of their real target.
"What the hell!" Said Alpha-Two. "Where did the scientist go? I don't see the other two people who were talking to him on camera either!"
"Maybe they somehow escaped from here. But they shouldn't be gone too far. With this gas- maybe they are somewhere in the corridor, unconscious by now. Let's see."
Leaving the room, the two began to examine the unconscious bodies in the corridor.
However, within minutes, their amazement multiplied.
"No, they're not here!" Alpha-Two wasn't believing his own eyes,
"how is that possible?"
Alpha-One's face was also darkening over time, "I don't know how, but either way, they succeeded in evading the gas but that does not mean that they are allowed to live."
"But where did they go?"
"They must be trying to escape through some exit route!"
"Transport!" Alpha-Two thought for a while. "They need transport to escape. That means they are going to the garage!"
"Right!" Alpha-One's face turned cruel. "Then let's go and let them catch the transport. To hell."
Jin waited until other two of his team were completely healed with fresh air from the air bottle. He didn't want to have the slightest unfitness when it comes to fighting against a tough enemy. When he was satisfied, he got up and looked at the other two.
The knock-out gas was supposed to vanish from the air after ten minutes, but still, he didn't want to take the risk. He got up with the air bottle hung in his back with a harness and face mask fitting in his mouth and nose.
After checking if everyone's gear was right, he came out of the fire fighting store carefully.
Jin and Arya both had torches in their hands, but they can't illuminate them since there is the fear of exposing their positions to the opponents. They had to walk slowly touching the wall carefully. Jin was in front, then Arya and Dr. Donnen were at the tail directing them towards the garage in a low tone. They were walking ever so slowly so that there was no sound; they had to be careful not to stumble on the unconscious bodies on the floor of the corridor. They stopped every now and then and listened, hoping to hear any sound from the attackers, however, they couldn't hear anything. People of the special force get very high-quality training - they know how to move silently like a cat.
The three companions crossed almost the entire distance safely. In the front passage, there was a T-junction, the garage was about sixty yards to the right of that junction. Dr. Donnen whispered the location to them.
Jin shook his head and crossed the T-junction and took a right turn. But he stopped so abruptly that Arya almost crashed on his back. His sixth sense was screaming inside his head-
Danger !!
The speed of light is higher than the speed of sound, for this reason
Jin saw muzzle flash first from the end of that corridor before the hellish sound broke in.
"Watch out!"... He screamed but his voice came out all muffled due to the gas mask. Jin dived with perfect reflex, and felt the burning sensation-
A bullet pierced the flesh above his elbow. Warm blood was seeping out of the wound. Arya and Dr. Donnen, of course, survived. She dived with her favorite teacher at the sound of gunfire before even turning the corner of the T-junction.
Jin wasn't seeing his companion's state. He started to fire back with his nine-millimeter handgun as soon as his body touched the floor. He
didn't waste time fixing the target. Though the bullets failed to reach any target, realizing the opponent was armed, the two killers took cover behind the garage doorway, forcing themselves to stop firing for a few moments.
The breathing apparatus was causing a problem. The muzzle flash was reflected in the transparent part of the mask and dazzled the eyes, the cylinder on the back was also pressing him as an extra weight which was hampering his movement.
Jin pulled off the mask; the knock-out gas should be vanished by now, Whatever traces remained shouldn't bother him to the point that he would get unconscious once again. He also loosened the harness to get rid of the cylinder. As soon as that thing fell on the floor with a metallic clank, Jin immediately panicked.
Aiming at the source of the sound, bullets from the Uji submachineguns of the assassins came raining in.
With wide eyes, he saw the bullets piercing the floor in front of him and pushing forwards quickly. Lying on the floor he saw the line of fire closing in...they will catch up right away and he'd be pierced with thousands of bullets at once.
It's coming...
Just then from behind the corner, Arya started firing back just exposing the upper part of her body. She also got rid of the breathing apparatus just like Jin. While her firing was still going on- the counter-attack was forced to stop again.
Taking the opportunity, Jin crawled backward and took cover behind the corner wall.
There was an empty clank at Arya's gun — the clip was over. She too stepped back.
the machine guns of the Alpha team roared for the third round,
The bullets were hitting the wall nonstop.
Dr. Donnen was trembling in fear. Getting rid of the mask and air bottle at Jin's signal, he said, "oh Jesus! How can they see us in the dark?"
"They must have night-vision goggles," said Arya, "they came completely prepared."
"Mnn," Jin agreed, "I don't think they have more than those two people. If they were heavy in number, the attack would have been carried out from both sides."
"So what they are just two? We are at disadvantage here. They have more firepower." Arya shook her head.
"That disadvantage can be easily compensated," Jin said in a light tone.
"You have something in your mind, right?" Arya smiled, "what is the plan then?"
Without answering, Jin asked, "Is there any chemical lab in the facility,
Doctor ?"
"Several," replied Donnen, "why?"
"You'll find out soon. Which one is the nearest?"
"There is one in this passage. Right After six or seven rooms there."
The scientist pointed to the path left behind.
"Arya and I are covering, let’s go there."
The turn of hide and seek was over, Dr. Donnen lit his torch and started to walk. Jin and Arya started backing away with him, their reloaded pistols were aimed at the T-junction. Enemies have stopped firing, they can show up there any moment from now.
To prove the fear is true, two black shadows moved near the corner. Jin saw the shadows suddenly diving into the floor. The Uji submachineguns roared the very next moment.
Following the flash of light, a swarm of bullets flew over Jin's head. it is not easy to hit the target through night vision goggles. Jin fired back and pushed Arya and Donnen, he entered the lab within the next few seconds.
Two members of the Alpha team were shooting with new vigor in an attempt of trying to move forward.
Jin opened the door a little and fired randomly without any specific targets and emptied his magazine.
To make his plan a success, they have to stop those two assassins for a while.
"Arya! Fire! Don't let them get close!"
He got busy reloading and shouting it out.
"What shall I do?" Donnen asked.
"Why have we come to the lab?"
"You'll See," Jin said, "we need phosphorus...quickly. Find it out."
"Phosphorus!" Donnen was surprised. "What will you do with it?"
"Just bring it, doctor!" Jin shooed him, "And yes, bring it in a glass bottle."
Upon hearing the strange instruction, the scientist sighed but got busy searching nonetheless.
A phosphorus-plastic jar was found in a cupboard. Several pieces of it have been submerged in water.
He collected a glass bottle from the lab table and filled it with phosphorus pieces including water from plastic jars. He sealed the bottle with a stopper and brought it to Jin.
"Here it is. Will it work?"
Jin stopped firing and took the bottle in his hand. A very slight smile appeared on his face and he hummed, "Perfect."
He looked at Arya and said, "stop shooting, let our friends come a little closer. Otherwise, the hospitality will not be appropriate."
Arya looked at the bottle and realized what he meant, "you'll make therm blind, won't you?"
"Uh-huh," Jin shook his head, "I will just fill their life with lights.
What can we do if they want to bear it?"
Seeing that the opponent's firing had stopped, Alpha One and two got up immediately. They started firing from their Uji in a torrential downpour. They were going for a brushfire. They wanted to turn the table this time with a sudden intense attack.
Jin let them close in.
then he took out half of his body from behind the door and threw the bottle -
It flew creating an arch on the way.
Both assassins stopped. Night vision goggles don't pick up glass objects that well. But it was clear that the enemy threw something. To know the identity of the object, their eyes were fixed on the object like a magnet, when it landed only six feet away, their eyes were still staring at it.
The bottle shattered with a loud noise. along the shards of glasses,
The water inside splashed around and released pieces of phosphorus into the air.
And then it happened.
According to its chemical property, phosphorus is an unstable element. It reacts vigorously whenever it comes in contact with oxygen.
That's why you have to keep the thing submerged in water.
As soon as the water is gone, the substance was exposed to air. It began to burn by radiating dazzling light
In an instant — as if a flash-bang grenade had exploded. The night-vision goggles delivered this intense light to the eyes of the killers by increasing it several times.
"Ughhh!" shouted Alpha One and Two. at the moment, they were blind, they weren't seeing anything.
Jin came out into the corridor with a roll, picked up the pistol, and emptied the magazine aiming at the chests of the two assassins. Alpha One and two were knocked off the ground by the heavy bullets of nine millimeters, and flew to the floor, no longer moving.
"Arya, Dr. Donnen! Quick!" Jin shouted.
They came out of the lab and started running passing the two murderers-
towards the garage.
As soon as the sound of their feet disappeared, the Alpha One and Two moved slowly- still in shock. They both had bulletproof vests under their clothes, That's why they survived. But the blow from heavy shots of the nine-millimeter guns wasn't anything trivial either. The two of them sat up with a squeaky sound and pulled off their night-vision goggles. They were trying to normalize their eyes by rapid blinking.
"God damn it!" Alpha-two said angrily. "Who was the man? How did he do that?"
"A Highly-trained man!" said Alpha-One, "he is no less than us in this field- no, he is even better- definitely a master of improvisation."
He looked at the burned-out pieces of phosphorus with praise in his eyes, "phosphorus...this idea wouldn't even come to my head either."
"But who the hell is he?" Alpha-Two was confused, "we have come after going through the dossier of every person who works here. No one in the security team has the potential to be this good according to their background. The scientist and the other staff- no. No one has the abilities like him."
"He is someone from outside, but where did he come from?"
"Stop thinking now. They are going away!" Reminded Alpha-two.
"Why worry so much?" smiled Alpha-One, "why do you think we have a backup ready?"
He just opened the walkie-talkie from his waist and pressed the transmit button, "Alpha-one calling Alpha-Three...come in, Alpha-Three."
The third assassin responded immediately, "this is Alpha-Three. What's the matter? Why are you so late?"
"There was a problem. We are facing strong resistance."
"What resistance? Didn't the gas work?"
"I will tell you everything later. Now we need help."
"What do you want? That I come down and join you?"
"No, handle the back door. The target is trying to escape through the garage. He has two bodyguards with him—those two are very capable people. We are starting to attack from here."
"Okay. Anything else?"
"Nope. Over and out."
The sights have become much more normal for the two assassins now. Collecting the Uji up from the floor, Alpha One stood up. He looked at his companion and said, "Let's go. We have to have a closure with our two unknown friends."
