"hi cory." cory was met with the smiling matt sturniolo. he was laying on a black couch. his nose was slightly red and he sniffed.

"hi matt." she replied, smiling back. "do you have a couch in your room?" she asked. matt shook his head.

"no, i'm in chris's room. he and nick are getting me food."

"why didn't you go with them?"

"i'm sick." he replied. cory could now hear his slightly congested voice more clearly as turned onto his stomach. "anyway, let's get to know each other better."

"21 questions?" cory suggested.

"that's so middle school, but yeah, sure. but we'll both answer the question. i'll go first. full name?"

"cordelia stacy jackson." she answered. she saw matt instantly regret asking the question. "aw, don't be embarrassed matt. what's yours?"

"matthew bernard sturniolo." he mumbled. cory bursted out laughing. it was quite possibly one of the most adorable laughs matt had ever heard.

"you're cute when you laugh." he said. he immediately blushed. that wasn't supposed to be said out loud. cory flushed a bright red.

"thanks. your laugh is..." she thought back to a video she had seen on their youtube channel. "violent." she finished. he hits things a lot when he laughs.

"wow. i probably shouldn't laugh in front of you then." he jokes.

"i'll keep my distance." cory smiles. the two answer questions back and forth until they reach the last one. 

"matt...you asked if i've been hurt before," cory started. "and i want you to know why and what happened. but i don't like thinking about it."

"you don't have to tell me." matt said, softly. "not until you're ready."

"are you sure? you deserve to know." she said. matt shakes his head.

"it's up to you. but i'm always here to listen, cor." cory weighed her options. she couldn't understand why she trusted matt so quickly. 

"i dated louis partidge for two years." cory started. "we broke up last year and it was messy. the weeks leading into the split were terrible and he just... treated me like shit."

"i'm sorry cory, you don't deserve that."

"yeah." cory chuckles dryly. "i really loved him, you know? i gave up so much for him but it was all for nothing because he was just an asshole and continued to play with my feelings to make him feel better."

"i won't hurt you like that, cory. i would never do that. everything i show is real." matt consoles her. in the back of his mind, chris's bet lingered. matt felt guilty, but nothing that he was saying was untrue. he meant every word of it.

"i know that, matt. and i really love how genuine you are."

the two talked for another fifteen minutes, until chris and nick came back from mcdonald's. cory said bye to the triplets and hung up.

that night, thoughts about matt and her past relationship swirled around in her head. she couldn't sleep. instead, she started writing another song.

cory couldn't fall in love again. she just couldn't. but yet, she felt like she was falling for matt. stop it cory. she thought. you guys met two days ago.

it was safe to say that cordelia stacy jackson was scared. she has phobias of love.

and matt might just be the one to save her.
