REAL LIFE

"dad, you know matt right?" cory asked. she and josh were in miami, as they are every summer. they were flying back to boston tomorrow, where their mom was going to help cory set up her dorm. if she had the choice, cory would be staying with josh at the sturniolo's, but all freshman have to stay in dorms for the first year.

"i mean, i know he exists. why?" dale jackson replied.

"he's picking us up from the airport tomorrow. just thought you should know."

"oh! alright. he's a good young man, matt. i'll forever be grateful for what he did and does for you. i like him."

"oh, good." cory sighed in relief. she had learned from past mistakes to listen to her dad's opinions on her boyfriends before anything happens. it's safe to say that dale did not like louis when the two dated and didn't fail to say 'i told you so' after cory had broken up with him.

"hey dad, hey cory." josh walked into the kitchen.

"hey kiddo! i'm making pancakes, so sit down with cory."

"can't stay. i have to see mia." he said, before taking an already made pancake and dashing out the door.

mia jennings was josh's summer fling. the two get together every summer and once summer is over, they're over. when josh is not in miami, he's free to like any girl or boy he wants, and vice versa. the two met in the summer before sophomore year of high school. mia was cory's friend first, but then became best friends with josh after they met. she's still friends with cory, but it's clear who her favorite twin is.

"that mia girl comes over every day. why not just start dating and do long distance like you and matt." dale asks, placing the plate of ready-made pancakes in front of cory on the kitchen island.

"i always asked him that. he says that long distance never works. i think that's a lie, because me and matt are doing perfectly fine long distance." cory shrugged. she takes three pancakes from the plate, placing them on her own, and started spreading butter on them.

"well, he's only 8 hours away, so you don't have that big of a distance. and now you're only gonna be like ten minutes away from him. josh and mia are a three day drive away."

"true. but also i think josh has some sort of thing with nick. i can see something going on there."

"i thought i was the only one." dale chuckled. "that nick kid is literally so into josh it's insane."

"yeah." cory laughs. "anyway, i'm going to call matt. wanna say hi?" she pulls out her phone, clicking on one of the two messages she has pinned: matt and lizzie. dale stands behind her while she presses the 'facetime' icon.

after the third ring, matt picks up. he's laying in bed, wearing a black hoodie.

"hi cory." he smiles.

"hi matt." cory waves. matt suddenly spots the man behind her and his face shifts to fear.

"oh. hi mr. jackson." he says, sitting straight up.

"hey matt! cory's told me so much about you."

"she has?" matt asked, nervously. cory stifled a laugh as she gave the phone to her dad. "CORY WHERE'D YOU GO?" she heard matt yell as her dad started asking him questions.

the next fifteen minutes consisted of dale asking matt questions about cory and pretty much interrogating him while cory was dying of laughter. when dale gave the phone back to cory, she went into her room and closed the door.

"that was the scariest fifteen minutes of my life." matt said. cory laughed.

"i don't know, it was pretty funny." she replied, laying in her bed.

"i can't wait to see you tomorrow. your mom arrived about an hour ago. she's talking to my mom right now about josh staying. by the way, where is josh?"

"i can't wait to see you, too! and josh is out with mia." she said. she told matt about mia the first time he had called her a few weeks ago. the two continued to talk for three hours. in that time frame, cory had packed her things, added lizzie to the call for about an hour or so, and argued with chris about whether one direction was going to get back together.

"alright, josh just got home. i'll see you tomorrow matt!"

"bye! i love you!" matt waved. he was back in his own room now.

"i love you more!"

THE NEXT DAY.

if i do write one, it would be mainly focused on cory juggling her relationship with matt and being a full-time college. with some drama too bc then its boring.
