"Phineas!"
Phineas leaped up from his cozy, warm bed and threw on a soft blue coat before heading out. As he stepped out of his small hut, he looked up in time to see snowballs being pelted at him.
Luckily, his quick reflexes acted as he bended the snowballs away.
His close friends, Baljeet and Buford, were non-benders so living in the Southern Water Tribe really put them at a disadvantage against water benders like Phineas and his step-brother, Ferb.
"Not again..." Buford groaned, dragging out his words.
"Hmm...I was sure that was gonna work..." Baljeet murmured, looking down at his calculations he had written in the snow.
Buford swiftly turned and smashed Baljeet's head into the cold snow. "You nerd!"
Phineas just laughed. It had been their two-hundred ninety seventh attempt in a row to get him. Unfortunately for them, Phineas was captain of the Water Tribe's army.
"Oh, hey, Ferb!" Phineas waved as Ferb walked up to them.
Ferb cocked his head slightly to the border.
"Border check today?" Phineas interpreted and Ferb nodded.
"Will do! See you later!" Phineas said, leaving his three friends behind.
As he passed the borders, the air grew frigid. Phineas gripped his coat closer to protect his warmth.
Phineas trekked around the borders for a few hours finding nothing out of the ordinary.
Just as he was about to head back for dinner, he heard loud noises coming from somewhere farther from the tribe's borders. He recalled there being an old Fire Guard Base around there.
He wandered farther than he had ever been and followed the disgruntled noises to find a small hut. Well, a small hut with a dispatched roof and broken down walls.
He bended small icy hills that he could hide behind as he snuck closer to the hut.
"Stupid water tribe! Stupid wet sticks! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!!!"
Phineas' ears perked up as he heard a girl's voice. It was sweet and high. It was unfamiliar.
He peeked through a broken patch and saw a girl. Her back was towards him but he could tell by her uniform that she was in the Fire Lord's army. Probably a commander.
She turned suddenly and threw some moist sticks to the ground. "Why won't they heat up?!"
Phineas watched as she tried, once again, to heat up the wet sticks with her fire bending. He laughed softly at her attempts.
He almost choked as she turned, glaring in his direction.
"Who's there?!" She cried out.
Phineas covered his mouth and scrambled away from the hut. He moved to run back to the tribe but screamed as a fireball was shot his way.
"You! Who are you?!" She yelled as she shot another ball.
Phineas quickly bended the snow around him into an ice wall to protect himself.
The girl blinked and let her arms fall to her sides. "A water bender, huh?"
Phineas stood up and brushed the snow off his tribal coat.
"Phineas Flynn, Captain of the Southern Water Tribe Army. You are?" He asked, holding out his hand.
She stared at his hand and slowly reached out to shake it. "Commander Isabella Garcia-Shapiro of the Fire Kingdom."
Her hand felt warm in his and he stared quietly. After he didn't move, she released his hand and glared.
He woke from his trance and felt his cheeks slowly heat up. "S-So what are you doing so close to our borders?"
She scoffed. "I got separated from my crew and stumbled here."
"Would you like to come back to my tribe? I could get you supplies and a hut and-"
"Thanks, but no thanks. I've got some supplies, I don't need a water tribe's food."
"A-Are you sure? I-"
"I already said no thank you!" She snapped. Isabella quickly calmed herself. "I'll be staying here. Don't get any ideas to sneak up on me and take me as your prisoner. The Fire Lord wouldn't care anyways so it wouldn't do you any good."
Phineas shook his head. "No, don't worry. We don't want any conflict with the Fire Kingdom."
She stared and then turned to go back into the hut. "Good. Well, you better get going. I'm not familiar on the Southern Pole geography but I'm going to guess you're pretty far from the tribe."
"Will we see each other again?" He asked with a bit of hope.
"Maybe in combat. Now go before I blast you with a fire ball."
He flashed her a smile before saying, "We'll see each other soon."
And with that he ran off.
Over the next few weeks, Phineas continued to visit Isabella, much to her annoyance. Soon, she began to enjoy his company. Especially when he brought her food rations and dry fire sticks as hers began to dwindle. Other than the needed supplies, she found him interesting. She liked his outgoing personality and his ability to see the light in everything. She also enjoyed watching him bend water, ice, and snow. Like him, his water bending was smooth and flowed together. It wasn't stiff and didn't scream danger like her fire bending did.
They became quick friends and although they themselves didn't realize it, they began to fall for the other.
"Sooo...favorite flower?" Phineas asked one day when he came over with supplies.
Isabella laughed. "Favorite flower? You do realize I could burn a flower with one touch?"
"I know but I mean, you gotta have a favorite flower, right?" He smiled.
"Well, if you must know. My favorite is the panda lily flower. Cliche, I know, but it's pretty." She shrugged, putting away the recent food rations in an ice box Phineas had bended for her.
"You don't happen to mean this kind of panda lily?" Phineas asked, whipping out an ice orb.
He waved his hand over it, letting the ice melt to reveal a frosted panda lily. Isabella gasped and fell to his side, admiring the delicate black and white flower.
"Phineas! It's beautiful!" She said.
He smiled proudly. "Here! You can have it!"
"But these can only be found in a volcano? How'd you find one?"
"It was my Dad's first gift to my mom before he passed away. Then before she died, she told me to give it to someone I...I loved...."
Phineas choked at the last part. Both from nervousness that he had finally realized how he felt for Isabella and the memory of both his parents' passings.
"Oh, Phineas..." Isabella touched his cheek softly before smiling at him.
Their faces were inches apart. If either inched just a bit further, their lips would've been able to touch.
"I lo-"
"Commander!"
The hut burned up in a cloud of smoke to reveal that Isabella's crew had finally found her.
Isabella's right hand woman, an fire bender named Ginger, stepped forward and pointed angrily at her.
"The commander is in cahoots with the water tribe! She has betrayed the Fire Lord! Benders, attack!"
Isabella shot fireballs to cancel out their fire.
"Go, Phineas! Get away and warn your people!" She cried.
"I can't leave you!" Phineas yelled, preparing to fight.
Isabella looked at him sadly. She would've gladly let him stay with her. But she knew his people were important to him and they trusted him. Right now, his people came first.
She shuddered off her fear and swiftly shot a fire blast at him. "I said go!"
Phineas hesistated. He understood but he hated the thought that he might never see her again.
"I love you!" He yelled before running away with tears in his eyes.
Time seemed to stand still for him. It seemed like he couldn't get back to her soon enough. He finally reached the village and warned everyone of the danger. He gathered a group of water benders and ran back as fast as he could to Isabella. He could only hope she was ok.
As they neared the hut's location, his heart dropped with every step they got closer. There was smoke everywhere.
"Isabella?!"
He couldn't get any closer to the thick smoke without instantly damaging his lungs. Ferb held him back every time he thought he couldn't bear it.
At last, the smoke cleared.
He ran towards it. He found burnt sticks and cooked fish. But no sign of Isabella or the fire warriors.
He noticed something still burning in the snow.
It was Isabella's panda lily.

Yikes sorry if there was inaccurate information on the tribes and things as I'm still on the first season. I didn't mean for this to be so long or have a sad ending but there you go
