(Ferbnessa) Play's the Thing

A/N: so this contains some Romeo and Juliet in it, but I replaced the Chorus part w/ the singular part of Narrator. Same words, just only spoken by one person.

"Dad! Why do you have to rope me into this?" Vanessa asked in frustration. She had gotten free of her dad after she moved to college, but now she was visiting again and was already caught up in one of Hienz Doofenshmirt's "schemes". Though, not evil anymore, it still threatened to ruin her time back in Danville.

Vanessa remembered though, that life in Danville was nothing like Campford on Oxbury College, but still, directing a summer play for her old high school?! Why her father did the things he did, she would never know.

As mad as she was though, she knew that she must still act presentable to the kids. 'It's just high school, so it shouldn't be too hard' she thought as she prepared herself for auditions. It was the play "Romeo and Juliet" and first up was for the part of Romeo.

After the first half of auditions Phineas Flynn was the obvious choice, as well as Isabella for Juliet, then there were a few less important roles, and last of all, the narrator at the beginning. She was surprised when she called "Ferb Fletcher" two boys came up to the stage. One of them was Phineas and the other must've been Ferb

"Hi" Phineas spoke while Vanessa wondered what was happening, "this is my brother Ferb. Well, half-brother to be exact, he doesn't talk much, but he insisted on auditioning for this part. So I hope you don't mind my little intro before, but he's my bro, and I wish him the best of luck" Phineas left the stage, leaving Ferb alone on the stage.

Ferb stood there for moment, took a breath and ever so eloquently started to speak,

"Two households both alike in dignity,

in fair Verona where we lay our scene,

From ancient blood break to new mutiny,

where civil blood makes civil hands unclean"

As he spoke Vanessa leaned in, hanging on ever word spoken, it was poetry, yes, but then and there it was a song of beauty that made her gawk. As he continued, it mattered not what he said, but how he said it. Vanessa now remembered that he was the boy that saved her twice, the boy in Tokyo that took her to Paris. Her mind reeled with times when this amazing boy made his mark in Danville.

She suddenly realized that he had ended his speech, and not one to be rude, had stood there quietly and patiently, waiting for feedback.

Vanessa regained composure, after all, he was only a junior in high school and it really wouldn't work out. 'What wouldn't work out?' Her mind questioned, but deep in her mind there was a hint of love towards the boy.

"That was really... Amazing!" Vanessa finally exclaimed, "I'll give it some thought, but you might be more suited for a larger part."

Ferb opened his mouth to answer, but Phineas rushed up the stage, and said for him, "Ferb doesn't like to talk much, as I've said before. I think he just wants to see if he can be the Narrator"

Vanessa cocked her eyebrow. "Why don't you let Ferb say what's on his mind?" She stated

Phineas looked a little baffled, as if no one had ever thought to let his brother speak "Ferb?" He managed to squeak.

"Actually, I'd like to play Benvolio, or maybe Mercutio.... if I really am as good as you think I am" Ferb interjected, surprising even himself

"I'll think it through, but I'm pretty sure of you getting Benvolio" Vanessa said.

Ferb walked off the stage, and Phineas scratched his ear, but then followed after. "Sorry Bro, that I never thought of you..." He said in the wings. Vanessa smiled, it was nice that Phineas apologized, and as she watched the two brothers hug, and noticing that it was late, she decided that that would be all for today.

"Ok! That's a wrap for today! I'll post the parts tomorrow and then we'll meet again to have a read through!" She said and walked over to Ferb. "Hey"

Ferb looked up, or rather down, due to his height, from his script and nodded.

"I don't know if you want to but there's this coffee shop a few blocks over, and I was going there anyway" Ferb stated, not even batting an eye.

"Are you... Asking me out?" Vanessa stuttered.

"I know it's not customary, given that you're in authority because of the play, but yes" He looked down this time and turned to leave.

"Wait!" Vanessa fast walked over to him, "Yes, I would love too"

So the two went to the shop and sat down waiting for their coffee. Vanessa smiled as the they just sat in the scenery, quiet, but not alone.

"You don't talk very much, do you?" Vanessa said, staring into his deep blue eyes.

Ferb's glance shifted around, "Well..." He finally spoke, "it's not like I've had much of a need to talk. My brother, as much as he's a wonderful best friend, has no restraint on shutting his mouth."

As he broke into a giggle, Vanessa had to laugh as well, "well, I kinda like your voice"

The two blushed as the sun set, and for a moment in time, the world let out a soft sigh.
