Coping with Story Failure

Shout out to ChirpyKat for helping me with this chapter. She has a book a bit like this one where we'll be doing another collaboration collective punishment. You should check it out. The book is called, "Controversial Topics"

Failure can be crushing. Today, ChirpyKat and I will be going over coping with story failure. First off, let me tell you  something that will save you a lot of emotional pain. Stories take time to grow. I've had stories get no reads for months only to take off suddenly. Never give up, but don't expect instant results. I learned that the hard way. One of my original works was 51 chapters long and saw decent sucess, however, the sequel got no reads past chapter ten. My own expectations got in my way and I ended up discouraged.

Another thing, stories grow slowly at first, but it's all about momentum. When a story starts to spread, it usually spreads fast. Another piece of advice I can offer is that people tend to avoid short and unfinished stories. I've had stories take off after completion or after adding a few chapters. Now, here's ChirpyKat in bold text to continue this discussion.

Like Gen3king said above, dealing with story failure can be tough. Sometimes the stories you put your heart and soul into can be unnoticed, and it's disheartening. However, don't give up hope. I advice to include many different tags in your story, in order to try to catch the attention of as many readers as possible.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover," is a popular saying, yet many readers do this anyway. Having an attractive/enticing story cover will definitely attract more readers. It is also a good idea to ask your friends for criticism; remember, it's always a good idea to have a second opinion before posting a chapter. A story with good grammar, punctuation, and pace are some of the many ways to keep readers hooked on your story.

One thing to bear in mind, is that you can use other stories to promote your original works. Personally, I write fanfics to get followers, and then promote my main story in the author's notes at the very end. However, the fanfics are not something you can out no effort into. Always pour your heart and soul into everything you write. Why do you think my collective punishment chapters are so long and thought out compared to other chapters? Cause I hate it that much. So if your original works do fail, take a break, write something else, get followers, promote your story to your followers in the author's notes. Anyways, best of luck to everyone with their own works and I will take any questions. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go write a fanfic now. Have a great day!
