Age Discrimination
Why does the previous generation always hate the next? Seriously, why the hell can't we all just get along and accept change happens? Am I going to judge the generation after mine for growing up differently? No! So what gives the previous generation any right to do so?
Let me tell you a story from a few years back. One that telling it makes me literally sick. Seriously, I may have to stop at points so if this chapter took a while, that's why.
Anyways, it's early morning, my father had gotten a Facebook account a while back and said, he wanted to show me a post. I expected something humorous and light hearted to brighten the day, instead I got a judgemental observation from somehow who has no clue what they're talking about.
The post said, and I am slightly paraphrasing since I may be remembering this wrong, "I remember growing up when life wasn't consumed by technology."
I almost vomited. This was a breaking point, and was during my year of ROTC where I was already agitated.
The fact that this wasn't a passing comment from a judgemental jackass but my own father, caused me to snap. It's made me nauseous ever since. It was this day, that I learned what age discrimination is. Basically it's judging someone based solely off of age. It's revolting. Collective punishment may anger me the most, but age discrimination disgusts me the most. Of the two, I would take age discrimination, but they're kinda one and the same. Age discrimination being judging a group based on the actions of a few.
Another, even more disgusting example is an article I saw some years back. I shit you not, if you look you can probably find it. This is real. The article was titled, "Help my Parents Are Melineals!" (Not sure how to spell the term used to refer to my generation, so I guessed. Anyone know the proper spelling?) I took a sick day the next day, getting sick at school. Weather it was because it stayed in my subconscious or coincidence, I can't say, but I found the article revolting.
My initial thought was, "help! This writer's an asshole!" My opinion has not changed. However, I will not name them as doing so would be rude and needless. They wrote it, let them move on. Don't heckle them if you do find them. For all we know, they didn't mean it and were just doing their job.
Anyways, back on topic, I don't understand why this is a thing. Things change, grow up and deal with it. The next generation will grow up to, and, everything will work out. It's worked so far, so why heckle and bully the next generation? What do you gain? Nothing. What do you lose? Respect of that generation, making your statements pointless. It helps no one. Just, just stop.
Am I the only one sick of this? Have you experienced this? Comment and tell me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go vomit now. Have a great day!
