"Hey Niall!" Mary said while running up to me.

"Hey babe." I said hugging her. I heard Maggie and Liam 'Awww' behind me, and I shooed them away with my hand.

"So what's up?" I asked taking her small hand in mine.

"Nothing, just homecoming nominations at lunch..." Mary groaned rolling her eyes, "Homecoming is so overrated."

"I know..." I agreed. I wasn't even kidding. I hated the idea of homecoming. The game, the dance, everything.

"So, want to go to lunch and get it over with now...?" Mary said swinging our hands back and forth.

"Sure." I said swinging my arm around her. We had both agreed that we would sit away from each other at lunch because of the sky deck issue. I felt bad at first, but I pushed it away quickly. As we walked to lunch a lot of normals and other groups were squealing at staring at us. All except the populars, who knew this was a dare. But this didn't seem like a dare to me anymore. I actually think I'm falling in love.

"I'll see you later babe." I said kissing Mary's cheek. Mary smiled and walked over to her table, and I went to mine.

"Oh Jason and I will probably be the only ones who get nominated for homecoming, I mean every other couple is just...weird!" Christa said bragging. I rolled my eyes and ate my pizza. Everyone says school lunches are bad, but these really are good. I look forward to lunch a lot now.

"HELLO NORTH CHESTERFIELD SENIORS!" a teacher shouted. Everyone cheered. I guess it was it's time for homecoming king and queen nominations.

"I HAVE YOUR HOMECOMING PRINCES AND PRINCESSES!"

everyone began chanting, "TELL US!"

"Alright!" the teacher pulled out an envelope, "I think everyone's expecting this. Our homecoming pair is..."

Dramatic pause...

"Christa Anne Jane and Jason Lerentos!" the teacher cheered. All the populars celebrated and the rest of the lunchroom clapped as Christa and Jason went receive their crowns.

"But...they are the 1st out of TWO." the teacher said smiling.

"WHAT?!" Christa said astonished.

"Yes!" the teacher said with a small smirk, "The SECOND homecoming pair is..."

This should be interesting.

"Mary Ryans and Niall Horan!" the teacher said clapping.

Pardon?

The entire room was crazed. Everyone was cheering and clapping and screaming. I looked over at Mary who was just about as shocked as me. we both headed up to the podium where we were both crowned.

"Thank you for your time!" the teacher said as she left with the empty envelope. Mary and I just stared at each other.

"Did that just happen...?" I asked.

"...yea..." Mary said.

"So..." I said.

"We could be homecoming KING AND QUEEN." Mary said.

"But how did we even--" I thought back to when Liam and I were planning my date with Mary. He was acting suspicious.

"Hey was Maggie acting suspicious last night...? I asked.

"Yeah...she and Liam were really giggly--" we both realized that Maggie and Liam set this whole thing up.

"The entire school wants us to be homecoming king and queen...?" I whispered.

"We just started dating yesterday..." Mary said.

"I-I guess people wanted...us together...?" I said.

"Maybe..." Mary said.

"...come 'ere." I hugged her tight.

This is not fucking happening! I NEED TO WIN HOMECOMING!

"KAITLYN!" I screamed. She ran right over to me.

"Sorry babe!" she said.

"You like him...right?" I said pointing at Niall.

"Yeah...so?" she said.

"You know where Mary rehearses her singing...?"

"Yes..." she said smirking.

"Meet me there." I said. Of course I knew Mary was Niall's Mystery Singer. I mean come ON, I was her best friend in 6th grade...as much as I hate to admit it.

"You have the phone...?" I asked.

"YEP." Kaitlyn said.

"I'm over the mo-on, doing my thing, doing my thing..."

"Start recording!" I whispered. Kaitlyn recorded the song she sang and I asked her, "Now what are you--"

"I'm going to play the recording and 'sing' to Niall so he'll think it's me, breaking him and Mary apart."

"And that..." I said high-fiving her, "Is why you're my best friend."

I heard everything she said. EVERYTHING. That dumb bitch can't ruin everything about Mary's life! And I'm going to make sure she doesn't, no matter what it really takes.
