Chapter 5

Ethan's POV

I woke up to the sun streaming in through my window, a light wind refreshing me. I managed to drag myself out of my bed and walk over lazily to the toilet.

Like every other morning, I knocked on Grayson's room to wake him up and went downstairs. Mom was sitting on the sofa, as usual, on her iPad, reading the news or something.

As I made myself some breakfast, I realised that Grayson should have been up by now.

Whatever. I thought to myself, devouring my cereal. Then I slumped back up the stairs, rubbing my dreary eyes and got changed.

Still, Grayson hadn't gotten up and this time I went into his room, to find his bed perfectly made. But he wasn't in their.

His window was open, and I had no doubt that it had been wide open all night, as it was extremely cold in his room.

"Gray?" I called, scanning the room intently. I called to mom to make sure she hadn't seen him going out.

"No!" she called back. I growled deeply, scratching the back of my head gently and grabbing my shoes. He had probably gone to an early football session.

"Bye mom," I shut the door behind me and wrapped my thick coat around me tightly, breathing out into the cold air. As I made way to school, my phone buzzed wildly in my pocket.

Blake: heyy babe I miss you

Blake: where are you?!

Blake: stop ignoring me!!

Blake: Ethan Grant Dolan, STOP IGNORING ME NOW!!!

I rolled my eyes slightly and quickly texted:

Me: I'm going now, don't worry

I switched off my phone as I strolled up the steps of the main entrance, mentally getting ready for all the screams and yells that I would get welcomed by.

"ETHAN!"

"I LOVE YOU!"

"MARRY ME!"

"Ayee, bro!"

I hated ignoring all of the requests from the boys and the papers I had to sign for the girls, but I had to get to Blake.

"Babe," she welcomed me with a hug in the classroom we had registration in. "So, about yesterday's fight with Cassidy...." she bit her lip as she looked at me.

"What," my heart started palpitating at the reminder of yesterday's fight. I wish I could take it back.

"Well, you settled it right?" she asked. I was expecting her to say that all the rumours weren't true, so I had to settle this now.

"You know the story you told me yesterday?" I started, sitting down next to her, "Are you sure it's true?"

"Um, duh!" she rolled her eyes at me, blowing a bubble with her gum, "It's completely true! I used my strategies to find them out, and I don't want any questions." she snapped. I laughed a little. But inside I really doubted her.

I leaned in to give her a quick kiss on her pink, glossy lips when the door slammed open.

Cassidy's POV

Yeah, okay, Gray and I had gotten really tired that night and had drifted off to sleep on my bed.

I had woken up with him next to, his arm around my stomach. I was in my pj's but he had his clothes from the day before. The window had been open all night and a strong, cold breeze had woken me up.

What time is it? I had thought as I had pulled myself out of bed, waking Grayson up.

"Woah, dude," he had said, rubbing his eyes and hopping off of my bed with a jump. We had crept down the stairs and eaten some breakfast and I had said goodbye to my mom.

Once we were outside he had pulled me into a warm hug, lifting my head to give me a kiss. But I had backed away gently.

I couldn't be with him.

••••

Grayson had put his arm around my waist as we walked to school, and I shifted uncomfortably. Many people had stared at us as we had walked through the halls, whispering gossip here and there.

When we had entered our form room, I saw Ethan and Blake kissing.

I must say, it was disgusting.

Blake had been scrawling her arms all over Ethan, moving her lips widely over his mouth. But Grayson had steered me over to the corner of the room next to the window, sitting down at a seat next to me.

"Hey," he said, staring at me while resting his face in his hand, "I've been thinking,"

"Wow! Shocker," I gasped sarcastically, and he punched my shoulder.

"As I was saying - I've been thinking about, the kiss," my heart skipped a beat when I heard the last two words settle. There was an awkward pause.

"Yeah, um, about that," I started, and I couldn't stop the words from slurring out of my mouth: "I liked it. Yeah. Oh my god. Okay. Never mind that." My cheeks burned from the heat as I stumbled on my words, "It was nice and all, but-"

"But," he sighed closing his eyes tight.

"I'm really sorry Gray, but I can't be with you," I blurted. "I'm really sorry."

He just stared at me, not knowing what to do. "Why?" the question I had been dreading to answer had come. But I wasn't ready to face it.

"I just can't, okay?" I answered.

"Oh come on," he started, trying to persuade me, "What could be so bad about me that you don't want to be my girlfriend?" He wiggled his eyebrows at me, and a rush of annoyance just swept over me suddenly.

"Gray, you know what we haven't realised?!" I raised my tone a bit and stood up, "We have only known each other for one day." I sighed. It was ridiculous, "One day, and we've kissed. One day, and you've asked me to be your girlfriend-"

"I never asked you," he added.

"So then we don't have a problem here," I crossed my arms over my chest and slumped back down into my chair.

"But I can ask you if I want," he whispered into my ear, tucking a strand of loose hair behind my ear. "And you can't resist this sexiness," I giggled when he added the last bit in a silly, deep voice.

No.

"Sorry," I apologised again, pushing his arm away from my face.

"You're going to have to tell me why one day or another," he sighed and finally dropped the subject. He got up, and before he left, he whispered, "Because I like you."

He had said it. Now there was no way to go around the situation. Unless he found someone else. There were plenty of girls who would die to be his girlfriend.

So why me?

I hadn't realised that while Grayson and I had been talking, Ethan had been eyeing us through the corner of his eye, pretending to be talking to Blake, who was blabbering on about what make up she had put on that morning.

"It took me ages to do-"

"Excuse me, Blake," coughed Ethan a few desks in front of me. "I need to go have a chat with Cassidy for a second." Blake's face was priceless. I snorted a little and she looked at me, stamping her foot and sliding out of the classroom.

Ethan strode over to me, combing his hand gently through his hair. I stared out of the window, biking the inside of my cheek to stop me from screaming. He was extremely hot, his muscles bulging and his jawline sharp.

"Hey, uh, I'm sorry about yesterday," he started.

"I don't want to talk to you," I interrupted nonchalantly. "Go back to your girlfriend and spread more rumours about me."

"Look, I know you're upset, but I just came her to say sorry."

I snorted, rolling my eyes, "Why would you want to say sorry to such a slut?"

"I'm sorry, okay?" he pleaded.

"I don't accept you coming over her and begging for my forgiveness the day after you had heard fake stories about me, and believed them!" He sighed, growling a little in annoyance.

"Fine then," he turned to leave but added, "Why were you with Grayson today?"

So now he was jealous?

"It's not of your business," I stuck up my nose at him, but he continued:

"Just tell me," he sighed. I bit my lip, debating whether I should tell him or not.

I couldn't stop myself, so I blurted: "Grayson and I kissed and we are together know." But we weren't.

I stared at him, his hands had balled into tight fists and his shoulders tensed. "Where is he?" he spoke fiercely.

"I don't know."

I can't believe I told him we were together! I scolded myself as he stormed out of the room.

Probably in search for Grayson.
