Chapter 19: Provisional License Exam- Shinso

*Shinso's POV*

I watched as Todoroki ran off, not even sparing a look at the group as he darted towards the industrial park. "Ok, well at least we have 17 of us." Yaomomo sighed, placing a hand on her cheek delicately. "Actually, 15. I think I'd be better off luring people into my traps away from you guys. Plus, Ice Burn ran away right after he received his walkie-talkie. If I need help, I'll call." I spoke up, giving my classmates a slight salute before taking off towards the city. The winding back allies and sharp corners were the best places for me to lure and trap people. I was hoping to use some of Eraserhead's techniques to get through the exam. It was still a pleasant shock to walk into my classroom every day and see my favourite hero slumped behind the podium, snoring his ass off.

Aizawa Sensei being my teacher was dream come true for me. He had been the one who had fought tooth and nail for me to be brought into the hero course. He had taught me how to use his signature capture gear. He had given me an opportunity which had pulled me away from a dark place and into the light. Giving me a chance to achieve my dream. Getting me away from...her.

I arrived in the city a few minutes after I had left the group. The actual exam was yet to start so I had some time to situate myself and get into the best position to take out some of my enemies. My gaze swept around the alleyway I was in, making sure to double-check that no one was around to potentially ambush me. Not seeing or sensing anyone, I decided to use my capture weapon to get up higher and search for potential victims to lure into my traps. Thinking about my strategy in such a villainous way made unpleasant memories surface.

Memories of classmates running away from me out of fear. Memories of my parents' faces smiling down at me and accepting me before their lives were claimed in a villain attack. Memories of my Auntie sneering at me and trying to change my quirk using sheer force. I remember her words vividly. " You'll be nothing but a villain, Hitoshi! No wonder your parents died! You're nothing but trouble! You're destined to be a villain! You could have protected them, but you're too weak!" my Aunt would scream these words at me practically every night. It was all part of my routine... until Aizawa Sensei found out.

"Bring your arm up a bit. Yes, like that. Hold the weapon lightly in your hands otherwise, you run the risk of getting pulled along with it." Aizawa Sensei advised, taking my arm gently and pushing it upwards so that my position was right. As Aizawa was holding my wrist, he pressed a bit too hard, causing me to wince. Usually, nobody cared or noticed when I flinched or showed any pain, but Aizawa was perceptive. He was bound to notice.

"Shinso. Why did you wince? What's wrong with your wrists?" Aizawa asked, his voice lost it's tired tone and was immediately alert. His eyes stared into mine in an extremely unnerving way. I turned my head away to look at the dorms in the distance. "It's nothing. I just got hurt last weekend." I muttered, not exactly lying, just not telling the full truth. "How were you hurt?" Aizawa asked, finally letting go of my wrist, however, his piercing and serious gaze still remained in me. "Oh, you know, I just tripped and used my arms to cushion my fall. It's nothing serious." I whispered, still refusing to look at my teacher. I knew that if I looked at him, I'd lose all of my nerves and end up spilling everything. "Ok. Just tell me if you get hurt again, or go to Recovery Girl." Aizawa said, though he still sounded suspicious.

Life continued after that. I trained with Aizawa every Wednesday evening and Friday morning. The weeks led up to our exams. There was only a week left before our written exams when my life changed. When Aizawa Sensei discovered one of my greatest secrets.

"Good! Good! Get your legs up Hitoshi! Keep a level head unless you want to lose it during battle!" Aizawa was shouting to me whilst I fought tooth and nail against robots. These robots weren't the same as the entrance exam ones. They were faster. Smarter. Quicker. I needed to keep on my toes, but it was fruitless. The weekend before had taken too much out of me. As I fell to the floor like a toppled tree, I knew that it had been a bad idea to visit my Auntie at the weekend.

"Clear signs of abuse. Some of his bones haven't healed properly. Bruises. Fabric burns." A familiar woman's voice said with an obvious scowl in her voice. "I can't say for sure how long this has been happening, but I'd estimate around 9 years. So since the boy was around 5." It was Recovery Girl's voice and by the sounds of it, she was shuffling around the room. "Hmm? That's around the time his parents died and he was out into his Auntie's care. I'll have the police inquire, but there's no way that I'm letting him go back." Aizawa sensei's voice stated firmly. "Of course not. I assume this is bringing up bad memories concerning Izuku." Recovery Girl'svoice said softly. Aizawa didn't say anything, so I assume he nodded his head. "We'll get him out of there, don't worry dear." Recovery Girl's voice reassured.

Since then, Aizawa had sat me down to ask me about my home life with my Auntie. It took a few hours for me to actually spill, but it was worth it. I was free of my devil Aunt. She was in prison for child abuse and I didn't have to worry about getting hurt every time I went home. Except, I now didn't have a legal guardian. Even though I had to spend the weekends at the dorms, I still worried nearly constantly about never getting adopted and having nowhere to go during school breaks. Aizawa said that I shouldn't worry about it and that he was going to sort it out, but I had no idea what he meant by that.

"GO!" a robotic female voice echoed throughout the stadium. I jolted up and out of my musings about my current guardian-less position. The sounds of battle raged around me. I took a peek down at the street from my perch atop the building I had climbed. People fought like animals in the streets, their quirks all clashing as they desperately tried to claim a spot within the 100 candidates who could pass. I didn't make a move. It would be unwise for me to even attempt to jump into the fray below me. I would be taken out quicker than you can say 'All Might'. It would be smarter and more strategic of me to watch and wait until the numbers dwindled and I could use my quirk to draw a couple of people away.

I waited and observed, looking for the perfect opening. It didn't look like I was ever going to get the chance to intervene and pick off some people, the fight was raging on, well at least until Inasa from Shiketsu decided to make a move.

I watched in awe as Inasa produced winds strong enough to pick up the multiple balls flying through the air. My mouth hung open as a tornado of balls hung over the heads of everyone below me. "THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME PARTICIPATE!" Inasa screamed from the rooftop he was stood on before sending wind and balls rushing through the once fighting crowd. The wind produced by Inasa whipped through the crowd, stirring up their hair and clothes. People held their arms up to their face trying in an attempt to keep the dust and debris kicked up by the wind out of their faces. This seemed to be a fatal mistake because it exposed all of their targets. I could only watch in abject horror and awe as nearly every single one of them was eliminated. Red lights glared up at me as I watched Inasa laugh merrily before jumping from the rooftop he had occupied, obviously heading to the antechamber.

I watched as many of the people below me muttered in discontent. Grumbling as they shuffled off. I felt sorry for all of the poor souls below me who had failed the exam because of one overpowered first year. Taking out 100 people at once sounds like something Todoroki, Izu or Bakugo would do. I sighed slightly, there were fewer people for me to lure into my traps, but since most of the people below me already had one or two of their targets glowing an ominous red, it would be easier for me to take them out. Sighing slightly to myself, I stood up, glancing down at the survivors of Inasa's attack one more time before swinging down from the building.

I watched, concealed by the shadows, as the remaining examinees shook themselves out of their shocked stupors and started fighting it out again. However, it seemed as if some of the examinees didn't want to take their chances with the current crowd as they began running away, glancing over their shoulders every so often. One of these people passed my place concealed in the shadows, it was the perfect opportunity to get someone out.

A lanky grey-haired boy was dashing past my hiding spot, his gaze not on what was in front of him but the staggering fight going on behind me. He had a slight smirk on his face as he ran, clearly thinking he had escaped any chances of being tagged out. The boy already had 2 of his targets lit up, the optimal victim. He was overconfident, thought he was safe and had two of his targets gone. I smirked to myself as I threw out my capture weapon.

My capture weapon wrapped itself securely around the boy's midriff before I yanked him into the shadows of the alleyway I occupied. The look of shock painted across his face was enough to make me chuckle slightly. I didn't give the boy time to even attempt to escape as I pulled out one of my rubber balls and tagged the boy's final tag with it. All three of his tags beeped before they all dulled and a robotic voice spoke, "You have failed.". I ignored the blatant glare the silver-haired boy gave me as I moved away from him, seeking my next victim.

I stalked the streets, keeping out of sight and observing the streets. It didn't seem as though many people were on the streets anymore. I thought I saw Yaoyorozu, Kyoka, Shoji and Tsu entering a building out of the corner of my eye, but I wasn't 100% sure. I jumped from rooftop to rooftop, keeping all of my sense on high alert just in case I was attacked.

It was another 5 minutes before I came across my second victim. The bald girl had a tiger's tail and ears. She was crouched in the shadows of a building, her eyes glued to a familiar face. Aoyama was stood in the middle of the road, eyes searching the area. I could only assume that he had been separated from the rest of the class and was looking for them. I crouched down and pulled out my walkie-talkie. "This is Mindjack. I'm in the cityscape. I've seen Can't Stop Twinkling and was wondering if any of you are close by so that you can all get into a group. I'm on the border of the industrial park and the city." I whispered into the walkie-talkie. I didn't want to be too loud lest I alert the tiger girl below me of my presence. However, it seems as though she was too busy assessing Aoyama to notice me. I watched as she slowly stood up slightly from her crouch, preparing to leap at Aoyama.

It was a split-second action. Just as the girl leapt forward to pounce at Aoyama, I threw out my capture weapon and pulled tight, stopping her from carrying through with her action. I had to plant my feet very firmly on the ground as the girl jerked around, desperately trying to escape from my weapon. I pulled hard causing the girl to fall backwards and land on her ass. "Did that hurt?" I asked. "Yes, it did you son of a bi-" the girl started hissing but she stopped talking halfway through her sentence, her eyes glazing over. She stopped struggling against the capture weapon and went limp, sitting against the wall like a lifeless doll. I smirked slightly as I released her from my capture gear and stepped forward to tag her.

After hitting all three of the girl's tags, I checked to see if Aoyama was still safe. I peeked out of the alleyway and saw Iida standing beside him, talking with exaggerated hand gestures. I nodded to myself and started walking towards the antechamber, as the robotic voice which had emitted from my targets had instructed. As I walked away, I released my hold on the tiger girl's mind. The thread which connected us snapped and I could no longer feel her consciousness pressing into mine.

I walked at a leisurely pace towards the antechamber, taking in the surrounding battle damage. Buildings were crumbling. The floor was dented. The damage surrounding me told an intriguing story. It was only when I was passing the area in which we all started that I saw just how intense some fights seemed to get. The entire mountain area had been reduced to nothing but water with the occasional rocky island poking out from the water. I could feel my mouth fall open slightly at the sight before me. There was only one person I knew who was capable of doing anything like that and I honestly didn't want to think about why he thought transforming an entire portion of the arena into a lake was a good idea.

I arrived at the antechamber at the same time as Bakugo, Kirishima and Denki. Bakugo was shouting at Denki as they walked, something about being too slow. I didn't think much of it seeing as Bakugo was a very angry person and shouted about even the most minute things. I shook my head and entered the antechamber, finding both Izuku and Todoroki already there, seated together on the opposite side of the room. I wondered, as somebody came over to remove my tags, why they both looked so upset.

Sorry this is a bit shorter than usual. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and have a wonderful day wherever you are.
