Smudge sticks require the player to hold both the smudge stick and a source of fire (a lighter or lit candle) to use. Each one can only be used one time, and will turn back once they burn out.

A smudge stick has a couple of uses. The first one is to use it in the ghost room to complete one of the optional objectives. This also will keep the ghost a little more calmed down so it will be less likely to hunt, but keep in mind, it is still possible for it to hunt after you smudge the ghost room.

The final use may save your life. During a hunt, if the ghost is coming at you and about to wrap their cold, dead fingers around your eyes, you can whip out a smudge stick and light it to repel the ghost temporarily. This might just give you the seconds you need to get away and hide.
