We're going on a trip, in our favorite rocket ship
"Dude, it's fine. I'll just stay here. At least you got Sam right?" Tucker tried to cheer up his friend, who just buried his head deeper in the table of the cafeteria. Tucker wished he could do the same. He just had to go too. They were a trio. Always together. Now they were being split apart and he wasn't allowed to go to this suicide trip. He sighed and glanced at Sam, who also seemed pretty down.
"No, Tuck. You have to go." Tucker looked back at his best friend.
"How? Bribe the teachers with Sam's money?"
Sam shook her head. "Not gonna work. My parents will know and they'll wanna talk to yours."
Danny was meanwhile wracking his brain for a plan. Then, it was like a lightbulb went on. His head snapped up and his eyes fixed on Tucker. He seemed to be inspecting him as if to see if he was small enough to fit in his bodysack.
Tucker leaned away a little. "Umm, dude? What is it?" He asked nervously.
A grin slowly spread across Danny's face. Sam chuckled. "Ok, that's creepy"
Tucker scowled at her. Of course she liked it. She liked everything creepy. (Wink wink)
"I know how to get you in." Danny paused dramatically.
"Well, don't leave us hanging. What're you gonna do. Kill me and stuff me under your seat?"
Danny blinked. "How did you know?"
Tucker almost fell out of his chair. "Whoa, Danny! Don't kill me. I'm your best friend!! Think about all the stuff we did together! I promise to never eat your fries again!!"
Danny raised his palms. "Calm down, bro. I'm not gonna kill you." He leaned forward so no one could hear them. Tucker and Sam automatically did the same.
"I'm gonna smuggle you in"
Sam looked skeptical so he quickly explained. "I can turn invisible and intangible remember? We can put him in some compartment where they they wouldn't find him easily. Then, when we're far enough, you come out like you're lost and it'll be too late to turn around." Danny sat back, satisfied.
Tucker blinked. "That might actually work."
Sam was more unsure. "I don't think they'll buy that story of Tucker getting lost."
Danny shrugged. "Then I'll just say I helped him in because I didn't want to leave him behind. Which is actually what happened. I can take the consequences." He preferred getting shouted than not having Tucker by his side.
Sam hesitated, but slowly a smile spread across her face. She threw her arm on Tucker and sidehugged him. "Yes!! We'll all be able to go."
Tucker grinned. "Now we'll just have to worry about having Dash and Valerie along."
Sam let go and huffed. "And Paulina."
Danny chuckled. "Before we go, we're going to get trained." He nodded as his friends looked at him surprised. "Yeah I heard my parents say we were gonna get lessons on how to use basic weapons and what to do on different ghost attacks."
Sam nodded. "Makes sense. So Tucker doesn't need to worry about that, but we'll have to act as if it's the first time we've touched one of those things."
Danny smiled and they shared a knowing look. "Clumsy time?"
"Super clumsy time........even though you don't need to act it out. You're already a natural."
"Hey!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The chosen students stood in one line in the football field. It was Tuesday. The day after the names were announced. They would leave Friday morning so they had three days to 'train'. In front of them stood the Fenton parents and a GIW agent. Another six agents walked around, carrying weapons and standing guard.
Danny looked at them while trying to act as if he wasn't looking at them. He had completely forgotten about those idiots. Why would they sponsor something like this. It gave him the shivers.
His mom cleared her throat. "Welcome kids. Hello Danny."
Danny facepalmed as the other kids turned to look at who she had just isolated.
"Before we take an exciting voyage to the Ghost Zone!!!" She seemed to look forward to it more than the students. "you children need to learn how to use these weapons."
Jack jumped forward, unable to contain his excitement. "First, you will learn about these babies. Wrist wrays. They're light but carry a powerful shot."
He turned and shot a tree as a demonstration. Many of the leaves had fallen and the trunk was burned. Many 'ooh'ed and 'aah'ed. Danny sympathized with the tree.
A teacher, sent to keep an eye on the training scowled. "Do not harm the plants of the school, Mr. Fenton."
"Sorry," Jack said sheepishly, looking all but sorry. He turned back to the kids. "Now we will hand out wrist wrays and you will learn how to pull the trigger and reload."
Maddie held up her finger. "Also how to activate and disactivate the safety on the trigger. It's with safety right now so that you don't harm each other. When we are in the Ghost Zone you must keep the safety on at all times but be able to disactivate it if there's a ghost nearby."
When the wrays were passed out Danny held it as awkwardly as possible. Even letting it fall. He had held one many times before although he preferred his own powers. So he wasn't as expertised as Sam, who was holding the thing backwards on purpose.
This is how most of these lessons went. Everyday after school the students would go to the field and would practice with different weapons for two or three hours (breaks in between).
Sam and Danny would be clumsy and acted as if they got better and better with it. Danny ended up reaching his level of skill and even learned a bit, but Sam still kept a lot hidden.
Dash was surprisingly good with the Fenton bazooka, which worried Danny a bit.
However, days passed and Friday came.
Danny ate his breakfast quietly. His baggage was already in the transport they were using, which his parents had come to call the 'Fenton space shuttle.' Even though the thing looked more like airplane.
His parents were downstairs preparing for when the students would arrive. Danny quickly finished his food and went to the bathroom. He locked the door and phased through the wall and to the outside. He went to an alley a little way from his house. And sure enough there stood Tucker waiting.
"Hey," Danny whispered. Tucker nodded in return. "You got everything?"
Tucker showed him his overstuffed backpack. "I also left a note for my parents."
Danny grabbed him and turned himself and Tucker invisible. They phased back into the house and waited until the first student rang the bell. Maddie ran upstairs to answer the door but Jack stayed there. Danny cursed silently and decided to make a distraction.
He left Tucker in the bathroom and told him to wait. Then he went down to see his dad cleaning the last smudge of the ship. Danny took a deep breath and spoke softly but loud enough for Jack to hear.
"Booo-oo-oooh"
It was cheesy but it had the desired effect. Jack snapped to attention and whirled around. He looked for the ghost while reaching for a weapon. He snatched the closest one and bounded up the stairs yelling: "GHOOOOOOST!"
Danny grinned and flew to pick up Tucker. They went back down and entered the machine. Tucker whistled appreciatively. It was big. It barely fit in the basement. Danny had no idea how they would pass through the ghost portal on that thing. Two rows of nine seats stood at each side of the interior. Pressed against the wall. Danny guessed that was for the sixteen students and his parents if they ever went to the back. There was one extra at the very front in front of the door. That was probably for the teacher assigned for the trip. The space in between the rows was big and at the back was the door to the bathroom. At the front was the cockpit. It was pretty small but looked very modern. There were two seats and a big thick-glass window. No windows could be seen by the two rows of seats but Danny knew that would change with the push of a button.
Tucker opened a door in the back. "How about I hide in the bathroom again."
Danny shook his head. "You know how many times my dad uses the bathroom? Alot."
Tucker pulled a funny face. "Eww. Seriously? Probably because of the fudge. Hey is he bringing any fudge? They brought food right?"
Danny shrugged but froze when he heard footsteps. He looked around and knew what to do. He had inspected the spacecraft before this. Unlike his parents' other inventions, this one had grabbed his attention. It was some kind of rocket anyway. And he loved those machines.
So Danny pushed a button on the wall next to a seat and the seat disappeared to reveal a bed. Tucker stood dumbfounded but Danny snatched him up and dumped him on the bed along with his backpack. He made sure Tucker lay flat and that he would fit. Then he pushed the same button and the bed rolled back in the wall and a seat unfolded above it. The only sound a yelp from Tucker and the swing of the closing wall.
Danny wasted no time and phased his retreat to fly back to the bathroom. He went human and unlocked the door. He ran down the stairs to see many teenagers already inside the house. His mom looked slightly annoyed, probably because her husband had just bounded up the stairs screaming 'GHOST' and sending the kids into a ruckus. She had just send him back downstairs and went back to greeting the kids.
Danny smiled when he saw Sam, her purple spider backpack slung on her back and a black and white suitcase at her side. He walked over to her and winked. She smiled, relieved that the plan was working so far. They sat quietly as they looked at the incoming students.
Finally, everyone had arrived. Even Mr. Lancer, who was the teacher chosen to chaperone along as a representative of the school. He would write an essay of how the trip went and how the Fentons handled it all and if it was safe enough for it to be done every year.
After Mr. Lancer had counted all the heads and made sure everyone was present, he and the rest followed Maddie to the basement.
The adolescents gasped and stared around the lab in wonder. Danny looked at Sam nervously. She smiled reassuringly and pushed him forward.
"Alright, kids. Make a line and get in. Choose a seat and put your bags in the cabinet above the seat. This seat will be yours for the rest of the trip so choose wisely."
The students scrambled inside. Eager to claim a seat. Danny tried to fight his way inside and grab the seat with Tucker in it. However, he looked around himself in confusion. Where had he pushed Tucker into, again?
He didn't remember.
Before he could choose many seats were taken so he quickly sat down on the empty seat in the middle of the right row. Sam sat on the left a little more in the front. He would have liked if she sat next to him but the rows were made of single seats.
Once all the seats were taken except the seats in the cockpit and two at the front, which were Maddie and Jack's seats and where they would sit when they wanted to join the rest.
Danny left his black jacket on his seat to make sure no one took it and made his way to the back of the space craft where his backpack and suitcase lay. He grabbed it and stuffed it in the cabinet above his seat. Then the Fenton child looked around worriedly. Where was Tucker? He hoped he was okay wherever he was hiding. Well, he was probably getting cramps.
Maddie and Jack sat down in the cabinet and Jack closed the doors. Maddie turned her head to look back at the students.
"Is everyone seated? Okay then. Please raise both of your arms."
The adolescents did it quite awkwardly and uncertain. Maddie flipped a switch and a seatbelt wound itself across the belly of each of the students. Even Danny jumped in surprise. Many yelps were heard. Maddie ignored them and said: "Buckle up! We're leaving."
"Now's the time to get out of the Fenton Space Shuttle if you changed your mind!!" Jack announced, which caused a lot of nervous shuffling from the students. "But you will miss one heck of a ride!!"
Jack paused for two seconds and pushed a few buttons and pulling a few handles. "THEN HERE WE GO!!"
Danny leaned forward, curious as to how they would fit the 'Fenton space shuttle' into the portal.
He gasped when the bee-themed doors of the portal opened and it looked as if the green of the Ghost Zone reached out to them and engulfed them. His parents started the machine and drove forward towards the small hole. They went right through. It was as if they were sucked in. He looked around in wonder even though he'd been here before.
They were now in the Ghost Zone.
