Ship-repair ghost
Hey
*nervously chuckles
Star sighed as she scrolled through the many pictures she had made during the trip. She glanced at her battery and made a mental note to recharge it once they were back in the ship.
"This spot taken?"
Star looked at Kwan and smiled. "Now it is."
They stood quietly next to each other as they looked around.
The Fenton parents, Technus, Tucker and Valerie were huddled together occasionally throwing their hands up and making wild gestures.
The rest was wandering around and poking at all the different inventions, sometimes flinching when they made a noise too loud. Danny was looking around in wonder at something no one else could see.
He looked pretty dumb with the makeshift ear warmers Sam had made to at least dampen the noise.
Paulina kept glancing at the hybrid and smiling excitedly. She whispered something to Dash who gasped. Probably something along the lines of 'he almost looked this way'.
"I bet you they are going to set up a club in honor of Danny," Star said.
Kwan smirked. "I'm not going in in that bet. It's already happening." There was a pause. "I'm actually glad Phantom rejected her..." Kwan said feeling oddly guilty.
Star gave him a reassuring smile. "Me too. I don't want to know how Dash would react to that. But..." She bit her lip. "I think we should call him Danny from now on?" It was more of a question than a statement.
Kwan grimaced, remembering all the things he and his buddies had done to the boy. He hadn't really thought about it until now, too much in shock before. "I can't believe he didn't tell us. Why would he want to keep this a secret?"
Star shrugged. "My dad told me about some organization. It's called the GIW. It's the one the Fentons told us that funded the trip and the making of the ship."
"What kind of organization is it?"
"It's for ghost hunting. Nobody really knows much about them but what I did hear isn't very good. They're cruel and only catch ghosts for experimentation or research. They don't see ghosts as sentient things..."
Kwan pursed his lips. "So...do you think they want Phantom?"
Star nodded. She lowered her voice to a whisper. "I heard they caught him once too."
Kwan gasped. "Are you sure?"
She nodded worriedly. "I don't know if they found out he's a halfa but if they did, Danny would be valuable. I mean...how many half ghosts do you see flying around."
Kwan nodded. "Fent- Danny can probably take care of himself. Especially now with these super new powers."
Star shrugged. "Yeah but they're professionals. I'll try to keep an eye on them and figure out their plans. Maybe as a way to make up to Danny." She bit her lip.
Kwan grinned. "You're amazing."
Star's eyes widened and she stiffened as a blush tinged her cheeks. She smiled lightly. "Thanks."
Kwan, suddenly self conscious, went back to topic. "Aaand if you need help, just ask. You know...I'm here for you. I- I owe him too."
Star fingered her shirt nervously. "We could ask other kids in the class to help us."
Kwan nodded. "Only the ones in this trip, though. I don't think Danny would want us telling anyone else."
Star locked eyes with Kwan. She had never seen him like this. He was always acting tough for the other jocks. Same with Dash, who felt if he showed any weakness all his friends would go against him. Except for Kwan. Star knew they had a special bond but she rarely saw the Chinese show anyone else of his caring nature.
Star smiled. Kwan smiled back. Maybe the breakup with James wasn't so bad.
Now kiss.
Suddenly Technus cried out. He grinned wildly, something that sent chills up everyone's backs.
The rest of the group nodded, although Jack did so reluctantly.
Melissa approached curiously, as did the rest. "Did you figure something out?"
Maddie nodded but Technus interrupted. "I, Technus, shall change your vehicle's-" Tucker jabbed him with his elbow and Technus paused, remembering. He glanced cautiously to see Danny giving him a death glare (something Technus found ironic).
Technus grimaced and shut his mouth.
Maddie took her chance. "Technus here is going to change the ship's system. We will clog up the filters inside the ship and diminish the ones outside. However, we can't remove them all without leaving the ship with no energy. We found another way to solve this."
Technus rubbed his gloved hands together. "I shall start immediately."
"Wait," Maddie stopped him. "I'm sure you don't do these kind of jobs for free..."
Technus smirked. "Oh do not worry, miss." He send Danny a side glance. It was so quick Maddie wondered if it had really happened. "It's on the house. I have to make some advertising every now and then. And what better way than to give a few customers free charge."
Maddie narrowed her eyes as the ghost sauntered away to his workshop. She didn't trust this. However they had no choice but to let him do his work. That didn't stop her from keeping an eye on him and Danny.
The students either curiously followed Technus around or went to investigate further. Star and Kwan seemed to be gathering a group around them.
Danny floated after the ghost. He wasn't letting him out of his sight for even one second. His enhanced eyesight detected even the thinnest wire in the deepest part of every machine, which was torture really.
Cujo yapped under him, sometimes making a jump to get to his master.
Leroy would growl at the dog once in a while but at the end decided to take a nap.
"So, ghost child," Technus started conversationally while inspecting a machine critically before throwing it away. "I heard you have given Fright Knight quite a fright."
Danny blinked. "What?!"
"And those antihuman bracelets. Walker won't be rid of that story for a long time."
Danny gaped. "Where did you hear all that?!"
Technus smirked proudly. "From the gossip group of course."
"The gossip group?"
"Yes. I have been studying your human culture long and found the extraordinary invention of caged phones!"
Danny frowned. "Caged pho- oh! You mean cellphones."
Technus raised his hands. "Yes! I must meet the maker."
Danny adjusted his earwarmers. "Oh he's long dead. Or is it a she." He shrugged.
Technus didn't falter. "Where does this person live now!"
Danny shrugged and waved his hands. "I don't know. Does it matter. So what about the cell phones."
Technus brightened. "I have made a replica of these phones in a cell. I, master of all technology, have made my own adjustments and put them on sale. It has become, as you young people say, hip and cool in the Ghost Zone."
Danny stared shellshocked. "You're telling me that everyone has ghostphones but me??? Why didn't anybody tell me about this, come on people."
Technus grinned as he picked up another machine nonchalantly. "I shall make one for you if you wish."
"Oh yes! Thank you. Wait...you aren't gonna bug it or put in some crazy virus right?" He frowned. "You know what. You said you had a gossip group. Just add me from my own cellphone, ok?"
Technus pouted.
Kwan grinned as he talked to the group him and Star where getting together.
Andrew put a hand on his chin.
Sheldon prodded him. "Come on, Drew. It's the least we can do. I'm doing it."
Kim smiled. "Me too."
James put a hand around Kwan's shoulders. "You can count on me, bro."
Melissa shrugged. "Of course."
Richard grinned. "Oh yeah. This is gonna be fun." He highfived Chelsea, who was sharing his ear splitting grin.
Paulina and Dash wouldn't stop squeaking, which everyone took as a yes.
Sam and Tucker rolled their eyes. "And what do you think we've been doing these past few years?"
Mikey almost had tears in his eyes, which Kwan found overly dramatic.
Mr. Lancer was so proud he promised them no homework from him for a week.
Valerie laughed. "Of course I'll be joining."
Nathan immediately nodded furiously.
Dorian hugged Star and Kwan, thanking them. Damien laughed happily. Dani snickered and David had never felt so touched.
Andrew nodded with finality. "Let's do it."
Technus closed the cap and grinned wide. He held up the device. "It is finished!!"
The thing looked like a ladybug in her emo phase.
Danny winced at the shouted words, extremely thankful for the earwarmers that dampened so much noise, he almost had the hearing of a normal person. "What...is that?"
Technus held it out as more students gathered around him. "A Techno-bot. It is controlled manually and very useful. I only had to make a few adjustments."
Sam rolled her eyes. "Techno-bot. Real original. It's so....you"
Jack inspected it with wonder. He recognized a skilled inventor when he saw one.
Maddie was equally awed, though more cautious. She nodded and Jack opened the ship.
Technus put the ladybug down and went inside 'The Workshop'. He sat down behind a huge screen in one of the rooms (of which there weren't many). The others followed curiously and saw what was being displayed on the screen.
It was a video of the ladybug's path. They could see everything the ladybug did.
Their eyes followed the movements to realize the ladybug was entering the ship and clambering its way to the ceiling.
Technus typed furiously and occasionally flipped some switches or messed with another machine.
Everyone saw something protrude from the bug's head and aim at the ceiling. It looked like an antenna. It gave off some kind of energy that covered the whole ceiling.
When it was done Technus moved it around and scanned the place for more filters. He found some in the seatbelts and decided not to waste his time. He cut the seatbelts off (not heeding the angry parents nor the cheering students).
After some time he declared the inside filter-free and directed the Techno-bot outside.
This was trickier. He examined everything and ran through the system.
Most everyone had gotten bored and left, something Technus was thankful for. "Now if I only close half. No that wouldn't work. The functions are in groups." He talked to himself.
The Fentons recognized that habit. Tucker too, although the habit had extended to talking to his machines instead of 'about'.
Technus gave a triumphant smile as he seemed to have figured something out. He rapidly returned the Techno-bot inside the ship and attached a chip to the console.
Maddie frowned as he messed around with the system. She didn't stop him, however. She saw what he was doing.
When the ghost finished diminishing the accuracy and strength of the ship's movements and weapons (he quickly increased the weapon's power after a glare from Maddie), and after erasing a few unnecessary items (he had to replace the fudge maker, though) he grinned. The power usage would be much lower now.
Back on the roof, the same antenna appeared and started emitting light.
Maddie made a warning sound but was ignored and the light engulfed the ship. It wasn't as bright as the last one and seemed much weaker.
From outside, Danny looked up. He felt a change in the atmosphere. He looked at the ectoplasm around the ship and grinned when he saw it wasn't swirling and disappearing as rapidly. "It worked!!"
The others cheered.
Maddie thanked Technus, knowing her husband wasn't going to. He was still grumpy.
The ghost nodded, accepting her praise and letting his ego grow even more. "Now turn it off."
Jack grabbed the control with a sigh and flipped a small switch.
They heard a boom and yelps from outside and quickly ran to see what was happening.
The ship had dropped from where it had been levitating just slightly off the ground. As it was no longer powered.
Dorian flew forward cautiously.
Everyone held their breath as Dorian morphed to full form an held out a hand. His palm rested against the cool surface and he turned to give them a thumbs up.
"I realized your vehicle has taken quite the beating." Technus came out of the house.
Valerie sighed. "And you're offering to repair it free of charge."
"Oh no. I want something in return this time." He turned to look at the Fenton parents. "You! You shall help the great Technus and show me your inventions. I will let you work for me and we will rule the world!!!"
Maddie seemed unfazed. "How about we exchange blueprints of inventions of our own choosing and leave it at that."
Technus smiled. "Alright."
After some time Technus had replaced the broken window, removed Youngblood's anchor, and straightened all dents. The ship was returned to it's former glory.
The seatbelts were gone. Maddie insisted Danny burn them. She didn't want Technus figuring out the filters anymore than he already had.
The anchor was being kept in a compartment as souvenir.
Finally it was all finished.
Maddie looked greatly relieved the problem was solved. As did everyone else.
She noticed how the students were starting to approach her son. She smiled.
Danny scrunched his eyebrows in confusion. "Guys? You're creeping me out what."
Star smiled. "We decided to help you out."
Danny blinked. Then he flinched apologetically. "I'm not letting you fight ghosts." He glanced at Valerie briefly. She nodded.
Star shook her head. "No, not like that. We won't tell anyone about your secret."
Danny gasped. His face brightened so much he began to glow, literally. "Really?"
Star nodded. "In fact, we'll help you keep it a secret. We'll cover up for you, keep you posted on what's happening since you can't be everywhere at once, Mr. Lancer will cut you some slack..." She trailed off when Danny stood bobbing up and down looking like a glowing beacon. A happy glowing beacon.
"I can't believe it. Really? Even you, Andrew?"
Said boy snorted, slightly miffed. "Yes, even me."
Danny squeaked. "You guys are the best." He wanted to hug them all at once but decided against it.
"Isn't this touching, eh ghost child? But you won't need to worry about keeping your ghost half a secret."
Everyone turned but couldn't see the ghost anywhere.
By the time they realized it was coming from the balcony of the building, it was too late.
Technus pointed the machine he was holding straight at Danny, and shot.
