Gone...again

Dora huffed. "How did he find the necklace?!" She turned her head towards the people behind her. "Come with me."

She flew down behind some houses and shrinked, making the students riding her stay floating in the air. The swim down. She gestured towards the castle, which is close to where they were.

"Get in the castle. Your wounds must be treated. It is safe inside."

The adolescents with minor injuries protested that they could help her.

She shook her head. "This is not your fight."

Sam struggled, still in Tucker's arms. "No, Dora. Let me help."

She looked at the princess. Like last time, she added in her head.

Dora smiled and shook her head. "Stay safe. I will distract him. Don't worry. Nothing bad will happen." And she ran down a street away from them.

Maddie halfran towards the castle. "Let's go kids."

A few hesitated. "Aren't we gonna help her? She was very nice to us."

Maddie shook her head, not looking back. "As she said. It is not our fight."

It took only a few minutes to get to the bridge. They heard fighting and looked back to see Dora had morphed to her dragon form and stood in front of the black dragon.

"Your days of ruling are over, sister. I am back to reclaim the throne. Be a good princess and stand down."

Dora bristled. "Never again, brother. You will not bring this kingdom down." She blew icy breath at the other but he dodged.

Mr. Lancer ushered the gaping kids into the castle. "What are you still doing here. It's dangerous."

A ghost met them in the entrance and brought them in. It was crowded. Many ghosts had escaped inside the castle. The ghost saw the wounded and immediately showed them the medical wing. The others that only had scrathes were put in a different, bigger room where many other ghosts with small wounds were being treated.

Danny, Sam, Tucker, Dash, Valerie and Leroy were ushered in a smaller room for more critical wounds. And thanks to them being in direct contact with the fight and the flying remains of Fright Knight's sword they had more serious wounds.

Maddie carried Danny inside and looked around uncertainly. A petite ghost lady noticed them and reached out to take Danny from his mom. She held on tighter.

The ghost looked at the woman in confusion, then she understood and gestured for the mother to follow her.

Maddie did so cautiously and was showed a tall bed on one side of the room behind a curtain.

When she looked around she realised there two whole rows of beds. Some were hidden behind cozy blue curtains. Others were open to show many patients being treated or resting. Many ghosts had burns because of the dragon's attack. Others were hurt because of fallen buildings.

The ghost lady gestured for Maddie to place Danny on the bed. "We will take good care of him."

Maddie hesitated for a moment before gently laying her son down.

Danny looked around himself with halflidded eyes.

The nurse called for someone and two more nurses entered.

"You may leave now. He is in good hands."

Maddie shook her head. "I'm not leaving him." She didn't trust this. She didn't want to leave anyone alone with her baby now. She had let him out of her sight for a few minutes and look at what happened. A ghost happened. She wasn't about to leave him with another group of ghosts.

Danny raised a hand and she held onto it. He smiled reassuringly. "Mom....it's ok. Go....take care of...the others. I'll be ok."

It broke Maddie's heart how much effort he had to make to say that sentence. Does he want me gone? Why?

Maddie's face fell but she let his hand go. She took a step out. Danny's arm dangled from the side of the bed. His eyes followed her out. His smile never hovering.

She nodded and stepped through the curtains without a word. He is right, though. I need to be there for the other kids. Who knows what has happened with them under Jack's supervision.

She walked down the room and to the door. In the beds around Danny's lay the other students also involved in the ghost attack. Danny's pet lay on the ground next to Danny's. He didn't fit in a bed and his paw had to be treated. Many shards had made their way through his fur and they had to be removed.

Maddie saw Sam getting a bandage wrapped around her head. Dash was wincing at the shards being removed from his skin. Valerie's leg was being treated. Tucker had many bruises and his arm was being checked over.

Maddie sighed and left the medical wing.

She walked down the hall and eventually found the room with the adolescents, her husband and the teacher after asking for directions.

She entered to chaos.

A teenager saw her and yelled, "Mrs. Fenton is here!"

Maddie frowned as the others shuffled as if they had done something wrong. A few seemed panicked. Was it just her or were there less students than before. Much less. She looked at Jack. "Jack. What happened"

Jack shuffled his leg and ruffled his hair, a habit he had given Danny and which they did whenever they were nervous. "The others wanted to look at the ghost dragons and...."

"....you let them go."

Jack made an unsure gesture. "They wouldn't listen to me, Mads.."

Maddie scowled and looked at the remaining students. "How long was that ago?"

Mikey thought about it. "About five minutes?"

Maddie swirled around. "You stay here. Lancer, they're your responsibility now. If something happens I will assure you, you will have to find another job. Jack, come with me."

Mr. Lancer gulped and Mikey ran to catch up with the ghost hunter before she could leave. "What are you going to do?"

"I'm going out," she said and disappeared through the entrance. Jack right behind her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Danny sighed in relief when her mother left. He looked at the nurses.
One of them got closer. "Where are your wounds."
Danny lifted one of his hands. Both were still burned. Especially in the place were the sword had cut in his palm. Danny was lucky he hadn't been send to his worst nightmare. He guessed too much power was leaving him and it was blocking the sword's power on him.
After that he was too tired to do anything else but speak.
"I heal....fast," he tried to make them understand.
The nurse looked at him in confusion.
He tried again. "I'm....halfghost."
Her eyes widened and she nodded. "Ghost medicine will help?"
He nodded. "Need....energy."
The nurses looked at each other and one left. A black haired one smeared cream on his hands. She could do that now that she knew Danny's body could take the ectoplasm in the cream. She wasn't sure it would work well with normal humans. She also removed the shards with pincers. Danny flinched every time one left his body.
The blonde nurse grabbed Danny's shirt and looked at him for permission. He nodded.
She removed Danny's orange jumpsuit, which was burned and cut. Danny guessed he would have to get a new one.
Then she slid his shirt out.
His chest was burned because of an ectoblast. His arm was still wrapped in a bandage. It felt uncomfortable and Danny was happy when they cut it off. It was dirty anyway.
The wound was still open. The blonde glanced at Danny apolagetically. "I have to stich it. It should have been stichted before this. It may be infected."
Danny nodded. "I know. Thought it....be healed...by now. Do it."
He closed his eyes as she cleaned the wound and the other creamed his chest. He found his hands to be in bandages. They felt cooler. His head was also bandaged.
The nurse that had left came in when the last stitch was made. Danny had his eyes shut tight and his jaw clenched. He never got used to stitching.
The blonde made a knot and cut the thread.
Danny opened his eyes to see a nurse hold a pill before him. It glowed black and Danny knew it was because of all the ghostly energy inside it.
They helped him swallow it and he lay back down. Two nurses left to attend the other patients. One stayed to check for any other wounds.
Danny closed his eyes as the pill got to work. He'd had to take one of those before.
They were special pills that gave ghosts the energy to heal. Ghosts are made of ectoplasm, which doesn't get hurt that easily. But it can be burned or frozen or weakened because that would directly affect the ecto substance. Either way, it needs energy to heal back to its original form. The pill provides that energy, although it is only to be used on serious cases. Too many pills could be....bad.
Danny barely noticed the nurse leave and open his curtains so he could see outside.
Sam is laying two beds to his left. Tucker is sitting up and wrapped in bandages in front of his bed. Dash lay between Sam and Danny. And Valerie was on Tucker's right, her foot all badaged up.
"Hey man."
Danny craned his neck to look at Tuck.
"How ya doing."
"Just....give me a few... hours." Danny was already feeling better. The more energy he has, the stronger his powers get. Including his healing ability.
"A few hours?!?!" Dash was shocked. "Dude. I'm covered with scratches and it will probably take me weeks to recover but you will heal in a few hours?! And what's up with the green light?"
Danny bit his lip. What could he say. Hey Dash, I'm actually that powerful halfa you heard about.
Dash looked at Danny with furrowed eyebrows. "What are you?"
Danny's eyes widened. He stared at Dash, then he looked at the others for help. Valerie shrugged.
"You're not gonna tell me, are you?" Dash asked.
Danny didn't look at him. Instead he closed his eyes. He was too tired to deal with this.
