And then....school
The Fenton Space Shuttle came closer and closer to the big floating building before pulling to a stop. Maddie appeared at the front and addressed the class.
"We'll enter this ghost's lair in a group. Do not separate from the group because it could be dangerous. We don't know anything about this ghost so stay on your toes. We will pass out wrist wrays but don't shoot at random. You may anger the ghost"
A hand shot up, "Why do you shoot randomly then?" Andrew asked.
Maddie opened her mouth to respond but Jack turned from where he was sitting, "Why, we are experienced ghost hunters. We can afford to anger the ghost."
"Exactly," Maddie continued, "however, I see many of you might be too triggerhappy so we will leave the wrist wrays here."
Groans and Dash threw a shoe at the young blond.
"Look who's talking," Sam muttered quietly. Danny heard it thanks to his advanced hearing and agreed.
"Now now. No need for that."
Mr. Lancer spoke up uncertainly, "Will it be safe to enter unarmed?"
"Oh we won't be unarmed. Me and Jack can handle this ghost just fine, don't worry Mr. Lancer. Besides look at the lair closely"
The students squinted their eyes, not really sure what they were looking for.
Maddie continued, "The haunt has ectoplasm surrounding it. It's similar to an aura and how strong it is depends on the ghost. This one has a blue aura which means it belongs to many ghosts. Not just one. So we can be sure that it isn't a dictatorship and there is relative peace."
Danny was impressed. So his parents had learned something from their couple of trips in the Ghost Zone. He would have been worrying if this wasn't Maddie speaking....and if this high school wasn't relatively safe. Except for it being a high school with its usual bullies. However, he didn't know how they would react to humans and what he would do if he met Sidney. He growled. If that obnoxious boy so much as looked at him... Danny calmed himself down. Their rivalry was, after all, only a misunderstanding. He just hoped Sidney didn't reveal his secret.
Jack parked the ship in front of the school entrance. The students whispered among themselves, excited about entering a ghost's lair.
The seatbelts unclipped and they went to stand in front of the door, eager to be the first one out. Danny's seat was already next to the door but instead of staying at the front he pushed his way to where his friends were. Tucker looked at him.
"Hey. Why that face"
Danny hadn't realised he was frowning, "This is the place."
Sam raised an eyebrow, "What place?"
"Where I was pushed into. Remember Sidney Poindexter? With the mirror? We swapped bodies and I was trapped in his world, which is a high school of the 70's!" He whispershouted.
Tucker's eyes widened and he stared at the building, "Oh, that place. Great"
"Wait. Didn't you say he knew you were halfghost?" Sam asked.
Danny nodded, "Yeah. But he only recognised me when I transformed right in front of him so I don't think they know how I look like in human form. Or in ghost form for that matter. They only know that there's a halfa in the human realm."
"Unless Sidney told them"
"He better not have," Danny growled.
Maddie pushed her way through, "Now, kids. Remember, stay together and don't do anything rash. I'm also talking to you, Jack."
Jack stopped grinning and put down his bazooka with a pout.
Maddie opened the door and floated out. The adolescents right behind her. They arrived at the door and the female adult opened it. They were met with a hall and a strange humming sound.
Maddie walked forward carefully and the adolescents followed. Jack was the last one to land and he turned to the ship. He brought out a key attached to a small machine and clicked a button on it.
Beep! Beep!
The ship clicked shut and a few lights went green to show it was locked.
Maddie and the students jumped at the sudden sound. "Shhhhhhh"
Jack smiled sheepishly. They kept walking and soon recognised the humming sound.
It was the sound of many people talking at once. The group turned a corner and found the cause.
It was like they had walked right into an old movie. Many kids, or ghosts, were walking around or grabbing books out of their lockers. Others stood in a group and gossipped and still others had their noses in a book. All in all, the scene was like a normal high school.
Then all stopped. The ghosts had spotted the gaping humans at the entrance.
"Oh my..!" A girl squeaked.
"Humans?!" A nerd muttered.
It was quiet for a moment until a tall and busty girl murmured to her friend rather loudly, "Look at her clothes. What is she even wearing?"
Paulina gasped and stomped towards her face, "Why this is the latest line of clothing made by the best designers. Your clothes are so last century."
Star stood up next to her friend, "But look at her shoes"
Paulina glanced down at the ghost's shoes. She gasped softly, "Your shoes on the other hand. Where did you get those."
The ghost flipped her long brown hair with a smile, "New. Made of true cloth"
The humans stared in shock as they gossiped. Paulina offered to take her shopping and the other offered to buy her some flannel shoes.
Maddie lowered her weapon. Interesting, she thought, the ghosts have the same mental capacity of a human at the same 'age'.
Dash shook out of his stupor and approached the girls. He winked at the ghost next to the one Paulina was talking to. "Hey, hottie. You like quarterbacks?"
Soon everyone was mingling and talking with each other. Danny, however, stood back. He glared at everyone and everything. Tucker put an arm on his shoulders, "What's with you, dude. I thought hating people was Sam's thing."
Danny glared at a particular ghostly jock, "I recognise them. This whole school is filled with bullies."
Sam's eyes widened, "You're starting to sound like Sidney. Are you defending him?"
Danny stopped scowling, "Yes..no. I don't know. I hate him but everyone here treated him horribly."
They were interrupted by a growl. Tucker patted his stomach, "Guys. We haven't had any breakfast."
A nearby ghost came over. It was clearly a nerd, but Danny glared at him nevertheless. The ghost looked at Tucker, "What is that?" He pointed at Tucker's modern PDA. Tucker grinned, happy to show him.
"This, my friend, is a PDA. It's for planning and has a gps. Also a build in tracker..." the ghost listened with interest, asking questions and getting excited.
Tucker's stomach growled again and he groaned, "I'm gonna starve if I don't eat soon"
The boy smiled, "As a fellow techno geek I will bring you to the cafeteria."
Tucker's expression couldn't be any brighter. He followed the geek while pumping his arms up and chanting: Food! Food! Food!
This attracted the attention of the rest and they quickly followed. Jack forgot about his rivalry with ghosts at the prospect of food but Maddie remained suspiscious. She decided to follow for now, but if they made just one wrong move.
Danny and Sam hurried to catch up and it was then that Danny spotted a certain short, black haired ghost wearing a white shirt and striped pants. His eyes widened for a second before he narrowed them with a growl.
Sidney must have heard because he looked at the halfghost and gasped in shock. Danny glared and put his finger on his lips. Sidney gulped and nodded. The ghost hurried forward, trying to escape the hybrid's gaze, but Danny followed. He was determined not to let him out of his sight.
They soon reached the cafeteria and, even though there were classes, asked the lunch lady for food. The woman shrugged, not really caring what the students did, and scooped up some food for them.
James looked at the food in disgust, "What is this. Don't you have hamburgers or cola?"
The ghosts looked at him in interest, "I have never heard of a hamburger. What is that?"
James was astonished. They didn't know what a hamburger was?! He then made it his mission to introduce them to the delicious world of fast food.
Tucker ordered his food with anticipation, but gasped when he looked at the woman serving it. He paled and quickly grabbed his tray. He hurried to his friends, who stood in line for the food.
"Guys. Guys. You won't believe it"
Danny' eyes were halflidded as he looked at his friend, "What. We're stuck in a ship for one week with all the people that hate me and I have to somehow keep this big secret from my parents or else they're gonna rip me apart molecule by molecule? I can't believe it myself"
"No! Not that. It's the lunch lady!!"
Sam tried to look over the crowd of students, "What's with her?"
Tucker was getting frustated, "No you don't get it. It's the Lunch Lady"
Sam paled, "The one who poisons teenagers with meat!?"
Tucker rolled his eyes, "Yeah"
Danny sighed, "Well this can't get any worse"
