A rock to start it all

James looked confused but he nodded. "Be right back," he told Kim and stood up. He followed Star to the back of the ship and waited for her to say something.

Star scowled up at the brown haired jock. "What I first want to say is: how dare you?"

James looked beyond confused. "What?"

Star crossed her arms. "So first you give me all these signs that you're interested in me and suddenly you just dump me for that!"

James scowled. "Don't talk about Kim like that. She's a great girl and we were never a thing, Star. Get your head out of the clouds. Not everyone is interested in you."

Star flinched and her expression deflated.

James felt guilty for his ex friend. He dragged his hand across his hair. "Sorry, Star."

Star still felt abandoned. What she wanted to know was: "Why?"

"Huh?"

"Why her?"

James chuckled and shook his head. "I know it's weird. I always saw her as this quiet nerd that wouldn't stand up for herself, if I even thought about her at all. But she isn't anything like that. She she isn't shy, she does stand up for herself. In her own way. She always has a plan, it's amazing." He looked at Star, thinking. "You know. I think you guys could be friends."

He could tell that Star was offended and held a hand up. "I'm sure you guys could get along well. Please, just try. I want to stay friends, Star."

The blonde pursed her lips. James couldn't believe how she looked without makeup. Especially Paulina. They looked like they hadn't slept for weeks.

Star inspected Kim. Not popular material, she decided, but not completely loser material either. She could do. Maybe a few changes in her clothing. Red lipstick and something in her hair to keep it from falling in front of her eyes the whole time. She might even turn out beautiful. Star nodded. What she had seen of Kim's character lately was promising. She would have to work to get rid of that shyness that she kept showing, even if James said it wasn't really there. "Alright but I get to make a few adjustments."

James raised an eyebrow. He sighed, realizing the blonde wouldn't do it otherwise. "Only if Kim agrees, Star."

Star smiled and suddenly hugged him. "It's good to have you back."

James hugged back. "As friends," he reminded.

"As friends."

Danny talked with David as they flew on. "...and the rocket just went the other way and he almost bombed himself."

David laughed. "I don't believe it."

"So I had to race down and put an ectoshield around him before it exploded and he still cursed at me as I flew away."

David snorted. "What did he say?"

Danny shook a fist in the air and talked in a deep voice. "'You haven't seen the last of me, ectoplasmic waste!' and I said: 'See you at dinner.'"

David laughed. "That never gets old."

Damien smiled. "You know you can make a really good impersonation of your dad, right?"

David nodded. "You're looking more like him everyday. But you're still a twig."

"Hey!" Danny waved his arms around. "It's not that bad," he grumbled. "A few years more of ghost hunting should get rid of that."

Damien nodded. "You keep telling yourself that. Your ghost side may be getting stronger but you have to do something about this scrawny human body. Try actually working out."

Danny blew the hair out of his face. "I'll ectoblast that smirk right out of your face, Dam."

He suddenly froze. His ears had picked up on something. A swishing sound. He instinctively turned and held up a hand. Years of being on the top of the Booomerang's black list made sure he had quick reflexes.

But he was too late. Something hit him on the side of his head. He grunted and was pushed back slightly.

David gasped. "Are you alright?"

Something flowed into Danny's eyes. His head throbbed but it quickly died down. He wiped the blood out of his face and looked at what had hit him.

It was a rock.

The halfa grabbed it. He scowled. "A rock? Seriously?! Ok of all the traps this is the lowest."

Dani had stopped in surprise. Stephanie didn't pay attention to Dani's cousin and brothers. She was too focused on where the stone had come from. A ghost appeared from a small, nearby island.

Stephanie growled in warning. "Dani."

The girl turned too. Her eyes widened as the ghost threw another rock. It flew surprisingly fast through the air. "Danny watch out!"

Danny aimed and threw a counterblast. It exploded the stone and he quickly moved on to the attacker. "Damien, tell the ship to stop. I can feel them coming closer."

Damien nodded, even though Danny had his attention back at the ghost. He guided Cujo towards the still approaching ship and waved his arms frantically. "Stop!" He yelled.

Thankfully, they did. Damien motioned for them to stay inside the ship.

Danny meanwhile flew towards the ghost. "What are you even trying to do?" He questioned the ghost.

The ghost grabbed another rock but before he could throw it Danny blasted it to pieces. He floated a few meters in front of the ghost.

The ghost smirked. "Hello, halfa. You're mine now."

Danny blinked but before he could do anything the ghost had thrown a net around him. Danny rolled his eyes at the ghost, who looked like he had won the catch of the century.

Danny frowned. "So you're the one that keeps trying to capture me with old fashioned traps. Well newsflash." He stretched his arms out and shredded the net. "it doesn't work on me."

The ghost deflated but looked confused. "This is my first try...but no worries! I'm sure I'll catch you on the second," he said as if Danny should be delighted by the news.

Danny blinked. "But if you didn't set up those traps, then who did?"

The ghost stopped grinning. "There are more hunting you?"

Danny glanced around. "There are more hunting me?"

"What's wrong Danny?"

Danny turned to see his mom swim his way, cap on.

Danny frowned as he inspected his surroundings, completely ignoring the ghost behind him. "Mom you better get back to the ship. I have a weird feeling."

Maddie leaned forward and wiped his hair. Her hand came black bloodied. Although his wound was already healed, the blood still stuck to his face. Danny quickly tried to wipe it off, only to get his sleeves smeared too. "Mom it's nothing. This lunatic just tried to capture me. Which reminds me," he turned back to the ghost, who was looking around with a scowl. "How did you know about me?"

The ghost smirked again. "Why you're the halfa Skulker tried to capture, aren't you? I've heard you're on the top of his list. And if Skulker wants you in his collection, then you must be quite the prize indeed."

Danny gasped as it all came together. He looked around nervously. "Mom!" He warned. "Go back to the ship now!"

He looked back to see more students swimming out in curiosity.

The ghost behind him cursed. Danny turned to see it glare at something. "Why is Râyke here. Trying to steal my prize."

Danny swiveled around in horror to see another ghost. This one bigger than the hunter before him. Danny didn't know why he panicked. Maybe it was because suddenly a bunch of hunters started popping up trying to follow in Skulker's footsteps. Or because every ghost that popped up looked more experienced than the last one. Or maybe because he actually recognized this one from the crowd cheering him on as he beat Leroy up.

All he knew was he is freaking out. And everyone has to get: "BACK TO THE SHIP!"

The students paused, wondering why Danny was looking like a monkey out of bananas.

Why are my jokes always about food.

The others that were still in the ship froze, uncertain.

Valerie looked at Danny questioningly. "What's happening?"

A sense of foreboding filled the halfa as he started pushing the other back. "The hunters, Skulker's fellow collectors that were at the show, are here. We need to get out."

Valerie's eyes widened before she frowned. "But there are only three. We can take three measly hunters."

"Three!!!" Danny's voice rose several octaves. He looked up and there she stood. A ghost in between the students outside an the students inside the protective ship.

"I kinda meant that one." Valerie pointed and the panicking boy spotted another one. "We're being surrounded."

Maddie realized what was happening and urged the humans towards the ship. They didn't get very far seeing that another two ghosts suddenly stood next to the female hunter.

Dani looked around in confusion and concern. "Damien? What's happening. Who are they?"

Damien stood at a defensive stance and scowled at the new ghosts. "I don't know, Dani. But it isn't good."

"HALFA!"

Humans and ghosts...and the one halfa (two, actually, but Danny wouldn't think of telling these bloodthirsty ghosts what Dani was) turned to see one big deformed ghost look down at them with authority.

"I AM A HUNTER OF SPECIAL ARTIFACTS AND I HAVE LOOKED CENTURIES TO FIND A KIND LIKE YOU. I SHALL BE THE ONE TO HAVE YOU AS MY PET."

There was an immediate outroar from the other hunters.

"But I want it to be my footstool."

"And I've waited decades for a rug, get back in line!"

"I've never had a pet!!"

As the ghosts argued amongst each other, Danny and his friends flinched in disgust. Maddie practically fumed as the ghosts discussed their plans for her boy as if they were debating whether it's Pepsi or Coke.

Danny blasted a few hunters away to make a path free for the humans.

Sam, Tucker and Valerie, who had left the vehicle when they saw what was happening, didn't move an inch.

"Common guys," Danny urged them, but it was too late.

The hunters noticed their hurried retreat and closed in again, even more were joining in.

The hunter that was in need of a rug spoke up: "Looks like the little halfa is trying to protect the humans," he sneered.

The one that wanted a pet grinned. "Skulker couldn't get it, but we can." He addressed the crowd. "TO CAPTURE THE HALFA WE MUST WORK TOGETHER. AS FELLOW COLLECTORS OF THINGS RARE AND UNIQUE I PROPOSE THAT WE CAPTURE THIS SPECIMEN AND PUT IT AT THE HUNTERS' MEETING PLACE. IT WILL BE OUR TROPHY."

There were cheers and shouts of agreement.

Danny gulped. He could defeat one hunter with ease. But against hundreds of them, he didn't stand a chance.

At least alone.

He inspected the people with him and saw his clones, Cujo and Steph, his parents, Richard, Dash and his three friends.

The rest had thankfully reached the ship or had never left it in the first place.

Sam frowned at what was happening. "What are we gonna do?"

Danny held his arms out and a large ghost shield surrounded his friends and classmates.

Sam chuckled. "I guess that answers that. How long can you keep that up?"

Danny shrugged. He wasn't even straining. "Don't know."

"Uuh, Danny?"

The two turned to see Tucker pointing. "You kinda trapped us in with two hunters."

Valerie shook her head and cracked her knuckles. "No Tucker. They are trapped with us."

Danny groaned. "Mom, dad. Can you take care of them? I'll try to bring the shield to the ship."

A small hunter smirked. "It seems to care about the humans."

Another one nodded. "I have been spying on it for some time and established that the humans are our best way to catch it."

The one that liked shouting nodded. "I noticed that when it tried protecting them when we attacked." He smirked. "And we have a bunch packed neatly in that big human device. This couldn't be any easier."

The stalking ghost shook his head. "No ghost can get close to that thing. It's weakening."

The loud ghost growled. Then his eyes lit up. "Then we will have to counterattack."

The others nodded and smiled, knowing what he meant.

Jack grinned and charged. He mourned the fact that his jumpsuit still didn't work. All thanks to that white ghost from the prison. He punched the ghost in the face. His aim, though, wouldn't be as bad as his long distance shots.

The hunter grunted but recovered. He backed away quickly and brought a bow out of his back. He strung the bow with arrows that seemed to be charged with ectoenergy and shot.

Danny sucked in a breath.

His dad was just able to dodge the arrow. He sighed in relief. The arrow lodged itself into his shield.

The ghost tried to shoot another one but Valerie drop kicked him away.

The other ghost punched her from behind and she grunted in pain.

Jack grabbed him by the neck and held him up. The ghost stayed in the air struggling.

Valerie nodded a thanks.

Jack punched the ghost he was holding, which caused a yelp of pain to come from him.

The bowed ghost looked up and scowled. He brought up a charged arrow and before Valerie could stop him, shot.

The with ectoplasm charged arrow swished through the air and struck Jack Fenton right in his stomach.

Phew it was hard.
I had the idea to put in the hunters society but didnt really know the details. Had to write and rewrite the thing. Finally came up with something or other. Hope it turns out alright.

Anyway so see ya in two seconds (time it takes for you to scroll to the next chapter.)
