Away

A/N- another music suggestion- listen to Calm Before The Storm on Spotify. Really captured the mood for me while I was writing this.
Harumi's POV-
After hours of watching the sun go down, it was time. Time to go and find Jita.

Skylor had modified her mech and renamed it 'Blind Storm'. The was now sans visual cameras, but those were replaced with a hi-tech audio sensory mechanism, created my Nya herself.

Nya's mech didn't look that different, the major change being the new coat of red paint over the once-blue highlights. She had renamed the machine, 'All I Was'.

Pixal's didn't look anything like it had before. Gone was Digital Crest, with its glistening violet color scheme. It was replaced with a taller, stronger, mech. It was colored a strikingly vibrant white with dark crimson highlights. Pixal has even found some silver paint in the back, and painted a design of complicated swirls ontop of the white outer coat.

When Nya showed me my own mech, I couldn't believe it. She had kept the green color, and the basic build of the mech, but over the green markings, in scrawled, messy, blood-red Apithian, read the words, 'Ka'moi Vira Konesheti'.
'I fight for Freedom'. On the left shoulder of the mech, Nya had painted a red dragonfly.

I smiled. "It's perfect."

After changing into my familiar, yet I climbed up the rusted, old ladder that led to the cockpit of my mech. The usually lit controls were dark, and the white leather of the seat was cold and hard on my skin when I pressed my bare hands to it. I had forgotten how large the inside of my mech was, it made me feel small, and meek, and afraid. I closed my eyes and remembered. I remembered all the times I had gone on missions for the elite to return to Jitaku, torn up and broken. Every time, she would take me by the hand and say, 'Harumi, please don't go again. It's to dangerous. I don't want you to get hurt.' Every time I would stand there, in silence, because I couldn't console her. After Skylor's death, I had woken up in a hospital room with Jita by my side. At that moment, I felt so guilty that she had to tell me everything that happened, everything that I had done. I had cried for hours on her lap after.

My fingers wrapped around the leather controls of the mech as I gripped the leavers that controlled my movement. After a brief moment of hesitation, I opened my eyes to the dark interior of the mech. I placed my feet in the foot panels, the feet locks activating at the pressure of my feet. With power flowing through my veins, I stepped forward. Suddenly, the inside of the mech lit up, encasing me in a world of light. It felt like I was flying.

With a flick of my hand across my face I activated the light shielding glasses that I had worn back in the days of the elite. My eyes were not used to the dark screen over everything, and it took a while to adjust.

After I was sure I could see clearly, I opened up the holographic screens that showed me the exterior of the mech. It was now that I remembered. This ... this is what freedom is. I wasn't eve moving and I felt it- the pure desire to have wings. This was it.

I had to remember to breath when I was the sky. It was late at night, and it could've been a clearer night, but the sight took my breath away. The stars amongst the mist and the cool air made me dream of a better time, when I could spend a night like this with Jita.

/hey greenie, how you liking the new and improved Emerald Phoenix?/ Nya's voice cracked over the intercom. I could almost hear the smirk in her voice.

"It's amazing." I replied. "Thank you so much."

Nya laughed. /No problem! You'd do the same for me, if you could. Now what do ya say we get this party a 'rollin?/

I smiled briefly, the nodded. "Yeah. Let's go find some rogue Apithians."

A/N- this was short
