15-False Hope
Avalanche's PoV
--------
I skidded around the corner, attempting to not appear too excited. Quickly decelerating my momentum, I walked painfully slowly into the room where Polar and Flake stood.
"Is it true?" I demanded. They turned to look at me, expressions blank, their faces masks of ice.
"Is what true?" asked Flake calmly. He knew what I was talking about, and yet, he still had the audacity to act as if he were clueless. Rude.
Polar stood there, tail twitching, slightly annoyed. "What are you talking about?" she deadpanned. I cursed her under my breath. My mother she may have been, but my respect for her was lacking. Actually, scratch that. It was more than lacking. It was nonexistent.
I glared frostily at them. They knew, and they still pretended as if there was nothing to hide. How dare they! Polar bears and penguins, how dumb did they think I was? I wasn't a seal-brain like that polar bear-eyed freak.
"I'm just going to cut the fat," I growled. "Where is the egg?"
--------
Ghost ran. He ran from his problems, his fear, his hate. He ran forever and ever. Because his problems, his fears, everything went on for eternity. And he'd never escape it all.
Wolf struggled. He could hear voices, calling out to him and urging him to wake up, to open his eyes, to get up. And yet, he couldn't. And so he continued to flounder in the darkness that surrounded him on every side and never ended. It choked him until his struggles ceased and he went limp in the inky hold of black.
Kodiak laughed. He laughed at the pitiful form below him, scales bloodied and bruised. He howled his laughter alongside his friends as they crushed and smashed the battered dragon before them. He laughed as he felt the power in his talons, and the blood stained them crimson.
Avalanche fumed. She stomped in a circle, frustrated and angry. Angry at her parents, angry at herself, angry at the world. Finally, she just roared. In that roar came her pain, her anger, her frustration which echoed across Pyyrhia.
Chomonix spoke. She spoke her wishes, her heart poured out. Power thrumming beneath the surface of her scales, pumping through her veins and twisting in her talons. Her eyes softened as she gently brushed her son's scales, strong and yet limp at the same time under her touch. She exhaled, eyes hardening. And she spoke some more.
Polar pondered. She pondered over her situation. Another egg. Another dragonet. This time, a pure IceWing. Not like the messed up thing that happened with that disgusting SandWing. That would never happen again. She shivered, lost in her thoughts swirling around in her head like a blizzard that refused to stop, white blotting out her vision and leading to confusion.
Flake paced. He paced, back and forth, talons clicking on ice, wearing it down. He paced because he was frustrated and confused. He didn't understand the foreign feeling coursing though his veins, he didn't know how he should feel about an egg. He was baffled as to how Avalanche already knew, but he was certain about one thing. The hybrid would never know about the existence of his half brother.
Nordur worried. He was worried for his son, worried for his mate. Her soul was too far gone and yet she still wove magic into things. He worried because he was a selfish bastard who cared too much in a harsh world where those who cared had everything ripped away. Those who cared were weak. And so he worried.
