Chapter 4: I Write Sins, Not Tragedies.
"Lady Elizabeth," Sebastian said as he knocked on the large wooden door. Elizabeth had been gazing out of the window when she heard the knock."You may come in, Sebastian." She spoke sweetly. He nodded his head and slowly opened the door with a hand over his heart. "It is time for lunch, my Lady."
Elizabeth stood from the daybed she had been occupying for quite sometime and turned to the raven haired butler. "Alright Sebastian, I shall be down there momentarily."
"Very well my Lady, oh," He began to leave, but turned slightly. "I have someone here that would like to meet you."
Elizabeth clasped her hands together and giggled quite loudly, pinching at Sebastian's nerves, but he did not show it. "I shall be quick Sebastian, I would not want to keep them waiting any longer!" She sang.
Sebastian nodded his head and left for the dinning room. Elizabeth walked to the mirror and ran her hands through her curls until she was contempt with her appearance. She brushed her dress down and realized she was in the same clothing and had not changed yet.
She sighed. "That will have to wait I suppose." She shook the thought from her head and slipped on her black flats.
When she was finished, she ran out of the door and down the hallways until she came to the door to the dining hall.
"Alright," She said to herself. "Do not be nervous." She pushed open the doors and was suddenly mesmerized as she looked at the guest. Sebastian chuckled at her sudden appearance and placed a hand over his heart.
"My Lady, this is Miss Isabella Victoria, she will be serving as the new head maid of the Phantomhive manor." Sebastian said as he motioned towards the tall woman.
Elizabeth nodded her head and watched as the young women glided towards her with her hand outstretched before her.
"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance my Lady." Isabella spoke with such a graceful voice, it was almost hypnotyzing.
Isabella was a tall young woman with long silver hair that fell past her shoulders that she wore with a black head piece with white lace. Her eyes were a captivating scarlet, much like Sebastian's, they seemed to twinkle as she batted her long, black lashes. She wore a customary black maids uniform with sleeves that flared out at the wrists accented with ribbon. The lining of the neck was laced in a black design with a red rose. On her long graceful legs she wore black knee high stockings and on her feet she wore a pair of gray flats with a black lace detail.
"My Lady?" Isabella asked. Elizabeth shook her head and giggled. "My apologies Isabella, I have just never seen anyone quite like you before."
Sebastian had known Isabella from when they were children, their parents were great friends. It was customary for demon children to befriend the opposite sex, something such as betrothed like humans do. But their friendship was soon torn apart, for Sebastian's family had moved away, as his father accepted a position as the archbishop of hell. Sebastian had thought he would never see his beloved friend ever again, that is until Elizabeth was in need of a maid, and he just so happened to know the perfect demon for the job.
"You flatter me, my lady. Now, please sit. Lunch is ready." Isabella said as she led Elizabeth to the dining table and to her chair. She was seated across the table from Ciel. He gave her a small smile as she sat.
Elizabeth watched in amazement as Sebastian sat down a multitude of dishes. "Today, we have a lightly poached salmon on a bed of steamed vegetables in a white whine reduction. Accompanied by a creamy rosemary and sweet potato soup. For dessert, we have a raspberry Clafoutis lightly dusted with a sweet sheet of confectioners sugar. It is most excellent. I do hope you enjoy." He said with a smile.
Elizabeth's eyes widened as she looked at the beautiful meal before her. "Ciel," She said looking up. "Will you not be eating?"
Ciel shook his head politely. "No Lizzy, demons do not require human food. If they do eat as such, it is usually for recreational purposes only
." He explained.
Elizabeth slowly nodded her head. "O-oh, alright Ciel." She looked back down at her meal and picked up her spoon, dipping it in her soup. She brought the spoon to her mouth and was stunned with utter delight.
"Oh my! Sebastian this is the most delicious thing I have ever tasted!" She sat her spoon down and picked up the plate of Clafoutis. "And this is just so adorable! You are an excellent chef!" She said with delight.
Sebastian placed a hand over his heart with a smile. "Why thank you my lady, but you see I am simply one hell of a butler. I can not accept such gracious compliments."
Isabella stood behind her lady with excellent posture as a small grin grew across her face at Sebastian's words. Sebastian turned to Isabella with a wink and placed a finger over his lips.
When Elizabeth was finished with her meal, Sebastian led her and Ciel to the recreation room where they began a game of chess.
Ciel had dismissed Sebastian and Elizabeth dismissed Isabella, so they both took the opportunity to catch up with each other.
"My lady," Sebastian said as he held the door open for Isabella. "Thank you Sebastian." She said with a curtsy.
When they left the room, they walked in a comfortable silence to the rose garden. Once they were there, Isabella stood mesmerized by the beautiful arrangement of all the lovely flowers.
"Did you plants these all by yourself?" She asked quietly. Sebastian nodded his head and plucked a single red rose that was the color of Isabella's eyes.
"They are wonderful Sebastian." Her voice was light and delicate like the beautiful flowers surrounding her. Sebastian would not admit it, but he adored the way his name rolled off her tongue.
He had grown quite fond of the girl ever since the day they met.
*****************
Sebastian Michaelis was four years old when he met the lovely Isabella Victoria. His parents, Adriel and Jasper Michaelis, were dear friends with her family.
The two had grown quite close as they grew older. Sebastian would never forget the day he laid eyes on the small, silver haired child. It was a day that began rather ordinary, but would end quite the opposite.
"Sebastian my dear, tis time for you to awake now." Adriel shook her dear sons shoulders gently. Sebastian's eyes slowly fluttered open to see his beautiful mother standing at his bedside.
"Good morning mother." He said with a tired yawn. Sebastian tossed the quilt off to the side and swung his legs to the side of the bed.
"My dear, we have a guest arriving today that I would like for you to meet." Adriel said as she rummaged through the wooden wardrobe in his room.
He rubbed his eyes and raised a questioned brow. "Who is coming mother?" Adriel brought out a small black knee length shorts suit and pulled it from the hanger. She turned to her dear son as the morning light lit up his gracious features.
Sebastian was a rather tall four year old, and quite the gentleman at that. His skin was pale and his limbs were long and graceful, even for a child. His hair was long and seemed to fall wherever it pleased and the color that of a beautiful ravens feather. His eyes, the color of the finest rubies, held so much wonder and curiosity.
"It is your uncle Dante and auntie Sofia, my dear. Their daughter Isabella has come along as well, they would like to formally introduce the two of you." Adriel said as she untied the ribbon to his nightgown.
Dante and Sofia were not actually relatives of the Michaelis family, but they all liked to think as if they were.
"Mommy, I did not know they had a daughter. Can I play with her?" Sebastian asked curiously. His mother nodded her head as she buttoned the white undershirt on his slim torso. She placed his perfectly ironed socks onto his pale feet, followed by a pair of black loafers.
"Of course you can my dear, that is what we had hoped for. I am sure the two of you are going to be great friends." Adriel said gracefully as she stood up. "Now, put on your coat and we shall be on our way."
Sebastian did what he was told and slipped on his creasless over coat. "Now then my dear." Adriel said as she extended a loving hand out to her dear son. He accepted it happily and strolled along the halls until they came upon the recreation room.
The butler of the Michaelis family, Victor Bailiwick, held the door open as he announced the two to their guests.
"Lady Adriel and Lord Sebastian." He said with a bow. The three guests in the room all stood and gave their hellos. "Hello my dear," Sofia spoke as she hugged her dear friend. "It is such a pleasure to see you again."
Adriel hugged her back happily and nodded her head. "Oh yes, tis been far too long, and you are just as beautiful as ever." She said.
Sebastian looked around the room curiously for the little girl he was informed about, but could not find her.
"And how is my handsome little lord doing this morning?" Sofia said as she leaned down to Sebastian and shook his small hand.
Sebastian smiled and closed his eyes as he shook hands with his dearest auntie. "I am doing fantastic auntie Sofia, how are you today?" He said as he opened his eyes and placed a gentle kiss on the top of her hand.
Sofia laughed and stood up straight. "My my, you have quite the little gentlemen here have you not?"
Sebastian's father stood from the love seat he was occupying and walked to his small family's side with a chuckle. He outstretched his hand to Dante with a smile.
"Sir Dante, how are you this morning? Tis a pleasure to see you again." Jasper smiled.
Dante happily accepted his hand and shook it. "Why I do quite alright for an elderly man, tis a pleasure to see you as well." They let go and turned to each others spouses.
"Adriel, you are looking lovely as always." Dante said as he placed a kiss on her small pale hand.
"And you as well Sophia." Jasper said as he placed a kiss on Sophia's hand.
They all nodded and smiled and turned their attention to Sebastian. "Sebastian I have someone here I would love for you to meet." Sophia said as she stepped to the side, revealing a small child.
Sebastian's scarlet eyes widened as he looked at the girl, to say she was beautiful would be a touch of an understatement.
She was rather short for her age, yet the perfect height for dear Sebastian. Her hair was long and silver and reached to her waist. Her long locks were held back with a large black ribbon. Her eyes were the size of the moon and the color of elegant roses. Her facial features were graceful and her skin looked of porcelain, soft to the touch. She was the most beautiful girl Sebastian had ever laid his eyes upon.
She stood, clinging to her mothers leg, quite bashful and shy. "Isabella, do not be shy my love, this is Sebastian."
Isabella peeked out from the side of her mothers leg and held out her small porcelain like hand to the handsome young boy.
"I-i'm Isabella, it is n-nice to meet you Sebastian." She whispered quietly.
Sebastian, still seeming to be under some sort of trance, took her small hand and placed a kiss a top of it.
"It is a pleasure Isabella." He said. Isabella slowly drew her hand back and placed it on her dear mother.
The day was filled with laughter and smiles, when it was over and done with, Sebastian had gained a lifelong friend.
Months after the two had been fully acquainted, Sebastian had found that maybe she was something more than a friend. A best friend perhaps? Or maybe something he would never possibly imagine in his life.
