Middle

From their first meeting at the club, to her place, their first in depth talk, to his place.

Time progressed fast over the following weeks, then months...

It wasn't long before they were expecting, established pairing.

"They've had to cancel on us" Rick claimed as he entered the bedroom with a phone in his hand.

"What! Again?" Kali complained from the bed as she massaged her foot.

"Well they're busy aren't they?" Rick responded back.

"Yeah well so are mine, but they still bothered to meet you that one time" she replied.

"Bet neither worked a day in their lives" Rick muttered under his breath as he left.

"What did you just say?" Kali yelled to the now closed door "You don't know anything about my family"

Kali sat with her fists clenched around the blanket, staring intently at the door.

Behind the closed door, Rick furiously input commands into his phones screen.

Behind the door...
"I feel sick, can you" Kali's voice shakily started before liquid was heard violently hitting a surface.

Rick tapped his feet whilst fixed on the phone before him, despondent to the sarcastic sounding "I'm fine now" yell from Kali.

Some time had passed.
Kali lay in bed on her side, covered up to her shoulder in the duvet with the top she wore earlier covering her face.

Rick opened the door and rushed into the room...
"I'm going away for a few week, gonna see Mick" he said as he pulled out a suitcase from his wardrobe, ignoring the piles of clothing on top of it that scattered the floor.

"What?" ... slowly asked.

"I swear I'm crackin' up" he claimed hastily as he made his way around the bed "I need a brea... The hell!" he suddenly yelled as he stopped just in time to avoid stepping in a puddle of sickness "are you serious!" he yelled.

Kali failed to reply.

Rick sighed heavily, avoided the mess and moved towards a wardrobe that sandwiched the mess between the bed. He awkwardly pulled open the draws, reached over as far as he could, raking out a number of T-shirts; he yelped a "No!" as one T-shirt fell from the bundle and into the puddle beside him, though he failed to pay it too much mind, he quickly got back to the task at hand - loading his suitcase; returning to rake the content of another draw.

Rick looked vacantly out the taxi window as the vehicle passed by nightlife.

Soon, Rick found himself gazing up at the big glass entrance of a busy airport as the taxi left.
He threw his rucksack over his wheeled his suitcase in.

Sat on the plane in the middle seats, Rick looked to the young men on either side of him - young, very groomed, dressed casually and busy on their phones.
Rick took his phone out of his kaki pocket.
He animated the screen.
He tapped the side of it with his thumb whilst contemplating his next move.
Rick then chose to switch the device off.
He returned it to his pocket before settling backwards in his seat.

Off the plane and heading out of the airport, somebody shouted "Rick!" loud enough to startle many.
Rick turned to the direction of the voice and saw a tall, athletic looking man in a vest and shorts bounding over towards him...
"Mick" he replied before being restrained in a bear hug.
"Long time no see" Mick claimed as he began letting Rick go.
"It aint even been 2 years" Rick replied.

The two sat in the front seats of a car; Mick driving.
"So my energy will be topped up enough for the babies arrival" Rick sleepily claimed, head resting against the window.

"Shame your bird can't travel with ya and recharge too" Mick claimed.

"Jokin' aren't ya, she's pretty much the problem, I need a break from her" Rick replied with renewed vigour "this is for the best, I know I'll go back renewed, and hopefully she'll grown up a bit after doin' stuff
for herself" he claimed.

The car left the mountain scenery and entered into a beach rich area where the sun shone brighter.
A large, decorative arch was displayed at the stretch of road before them; above the clusters of flower designs stated 'Welcome to Kluloss'.

Elsewhere...
A small gathering formed around a private taxi outside an A & E department.

A nervous looking man rushed towards the vehicle along with uniformed medical staff.

"Here's the driver" one woman stood outside the car stated.

Another woman who was half in and half out of the vehicle moved out of the way to make way for the medical staff.

"Her pulse is all over the place and she's roasting" said woman claimed.

Inside the taxi, slumped to her side, sat a barely conscious.....
