Chapter 3: The Library's Golem

For the last few days, I haven't seen or heard Asra. I've been waiting for him to come with news of this 'creator' and I've noticed the ring was cracking. The small cracks were pointed out by Prince Kade's family at dinner last night. The queen had asked if I wanted to get it fixed but I explained it was very precious and I had to have a certain person fix it, which wasn't untrue.

Tapping my foot while I was brushing my hair at the large wooden vanity in my new room, I waited. I was tried of waiting. Asra had explained that he need time, that the creator was very good at hiding. He had left the creator's book with me, in the hopes that I could find the language.

My hands flew through my hair. The brushing seemed to keep me focused. Today, my family was coming to vist. Though I suspect the only one who may want to see my was my father, if he was even coming. I finally have the most of the day to myself, as Kade and his family will be busy.

I got up from the vanity, looking into the mirror. I seemed very anxious. I moved around the room, knowing it from practice and the fear of stubbing my toe. Moving up to the small, wooden end table, I opened it and grabbed the black leather book. The book had a type of feel to it. It was hard to explain, the book was important, and even felt important. Stuffing the book in my coat, I tried to make my way to the library. Today was the day I would look for the language in the book.

I made my way down the stairs, avoiding the servants working. I try my hardest to find the library, but after looking for awhile, I decided I needed help.

I walked until the nearest servant entered the rings range. I walked behind him and tapped his shoulder, "Excuse me, May I know where the library is?"

The old man turned around and looked at me before gesturing at me to follow him. We walked in silence for awhile before we were in-front of large wooden doors, as tall as a carriage. As he unlocked the doors and opened the door, it creaked and groaned, he bowed before walking away.

Entering the library, it was full of bookshelves and plants. The room was overgrown with plant life, vines covering the shelves, flowers in the walls, but it felt very cozy and welcoming. Walking up to the nearest bookshelf, and feeling the covers of all the different books. Old and worn books then right next to it, new books, looking like they have never been touched.

"Ah Lady Lucy, anything specific?" A monotone, empty voice said, making me jump back and look at the person. It was a golem, most likely made to assist. "Hello my name is Rann. I am here to help anyone with anything they may need. I apologize if I may have scared you."

I looked at him. Beside his height and arms, he could pass as human. He was very tall, almost as tall as the huge doors and probably as tall as the bookshelves. He had to bend down to talk to me. He seemed to be made of a type of stone or a type of magical metal. His hands were completely magical though. They were see through with a tint of blue, the seemed to he made of mana. He was wearing the usual suit for the servants. His eyes were gold, matching his blonde hair.

He tilted his head, "Princess Lucy, are you alright?"

I snapped back into my thoughts, "O-of Course! Thank you Rann. Can I have all the books on languages that are obscure and rare please?"

"Of course please sit and I'll be back shortly." He gestured to something out of the rings range. As soon as he left, I moved over to the area and sat at the table. There was a vase of yellow flowers on the table. Very pretty.

Rann walked back with only three books, "These seem to be the only books we have that fit that description."

"Ahh, thank you Rann." I reached out for the books. He gave them to me.

Rann started to talk again, "Do you need anything else?"

I needed him to leave. If anyone saw the book, I was afraid it would be taken. "Rann if you would, wait outside of the library and let me know when people want me."

Rann hummed, "Of course."

He stood up and left the room. I listened and I could hear him outside of the room. I pulled out the book and grabbed one of the other books. The new book was engraved with gold threads, making a picture of a tree. After many minutes of looking, the writing didn't match. Sighing, I moved on to the next book. This book was brown and had a picture of a black eye on the front. Looking at the language, it seemed close, but not exactly the same. Looking at the writing, it may be an older version of the books language, Asra said the creator was old, it would make sense.

I picked up the books and left the gold one on the table. I met Rann at the door.

Rann loomed over me and looked at the book in my hand, "Did you find what you are looking for?"

I thought, "I am closer to what I'm looking for, but not there yet.

"Would you like help?"

"Maybe... can you escort me back to my room?"

"Of course."

In the way back, it was silent. Rann didn't talk but he turned back a few times. He was much shorter that he was earlier, when did that happen?

He stopped, "Here you go, my lady."

I nodded and reached for the door, "Thank you Rann, I assume my family is here?"

"Yes. They wish to be left alone, to talk with the Queen and King."

I sighed, "Alright, have a great night Rann."

"I'm sorry, I do not sleep." Rann said, then walked away.

I entered the room, closing the door. Sighing, I placed the books on the desk and laid down to sleep. It didn't take long to fall into a deep sleep.
