Sixth Sense

Hey guys! I wanted to thank you for supporting me! I am now the #25 in the tag 'DP'. For some reason it says #31 and when I actually look for my rank inside the link, It says #25 so, I guess it's okay now that you know. Also, I hit 177 reads and Someone even gave me a vote on my last one-shot. I was shell-shocked. So Thanks again for that awesome milestone. I just can't believe that there are people out there who read my dumb stories and actually like them. Now, enough with that emotional nonsense and let's get right to the next short story of mine!

~•~

{Mother/son bonding fic}

Maddie opened her eyes and saw darkness. She tried to inspect her surroundings but her efforts were in vain. She was about to put on her hood only to find that she didn't have one. She didn't need the hood though. She only needed the night-vision googles attached to it.

She looked around her thinking about the question that didn't seem to have an answer: Where am I? She walked in circles hoping to find a wall with a light switch. She, of course, didn't.

A spotlight flickered focusing on a certain figure.

That blinding light caused her to jump as she was startled.

Then the spotlight stopped flickering and settled on a familiar figure with raven black hair and ocean blue eyes. He looked terrified.. of something. He was looking around until his eyes locked on hers. Maddie ran to her son.

"Danny! Sweetie, are you okay? It's okay, I am with you." She said as she gently held his chin with a hand and stroked his cheek with the other. He didn't respond. "Danny?" She said only to be followed by silence again. His face was emotionless now. She took a step back.

"I don't understand.." She said and her voice echoed. Two rings of strong light formed around her son's waist that even forced her to squint until her eyes were adapted to the light. However, The light rings didn't stop there. They divided into two rings that went the opposite directions revealing snowy white hair and neon green eyes. It changed her son's signature outfit into a black jumpsuit with white gloves, belt and combat boots. In the chest region of the jumpsuit lied a famous 'DP' emblem.

The concern that was clearly visible in her visage melted and was replaced with lots of random emotions but in an instant, the only emotion that settled in her gut was horror. Then it became Anger.

"What did you do to my son, you ectoplasmic piece of spectral energy?!" She yelled in rage. Too bad she didn't have an ecto-gun with her. She would've blasted his face. An evil wicked grin replaced his innocent face and his hand started to get filled with raw ectoplasmic energy.

She unconsciously felt her belt looking for something to defend herself with. The ectoplasmic blast Danny shot startled her awake.

She sat on her bed and breathed hard. She wiped the cold sweat on her forehead and took a deep breath to calm herself down. What a horrible dream, she thought. She then noticed continuous beeping of the ghost finder under her bed. She ignored it and ran to her son's room. She opened the door and stared inside. When she didn't find a trace of her son, her heart skipped a beat. She ran to her room and snatched the ghost finder. It indicated that Phantom was nearby.

Maddie remembered his unique ectoplasmic signature by heart. In fact, He had the weirdest ectoplasmic signature. Ghosts did not have vitamins, proteins and minerals but apparently Phantom did have those. That's why Jack and Maddie were determined to catch Phantom and see what was going on. They just couldn't accept the fact that the things they believed about those heartless terrorizing ectoplasmic creatures that called themselves ghosts were not true. That their efforts and their lives were wasted by believing something far from reality.

Maddie got dressed, washed, ran to the weapons vault as fast as she could and brought the most painful weapon she could find. With a ghost finder and a large blaster in hand, she ran out of the house and found Phantom fighting a ghost he referred to as Skulker.

However, Phantom seemed tired and weak. He opened the Fenton Thermos and trapped Skulker inside it.

"Finally! Now, I am going back to sleep. I have school, you know?" Danny talked to the hunter that was now in the thermos. Maddie couldn't just help but think: Do ghosts need sleep? No, the experiments she did with her husband did not indicate any sleep deprivation on the ghost they experimented on even though it stayed awake for 27 hours before it met its demise.

So, why did Phantom pretend he needed sleep even though he didn't need it at all? Most importantly, Why the heck did this ghost make himself look tired? Those baggy eyes.. Surely ghosts wanted themselves to look 'scary', she thought.

"Ghosts shapeshift, right?" She continued out loud. "Well, I can't waste time and let him get away now, can I?" She added and narrowed her eyes inspecting her enemy. He was looking with the thermos and unconsciously caressing it. He was deep in thought and he looked troubled. Maddie didn't know why but this made her falter a bit.

He looked so human, like a teenage boy. Maybe even her son's age. No, she couldn't compare this menace to her son. "I am not going to let that spook distract me with his highly disturbing appearance." She finally raised her gun and shot one powerful ecto-blast. Unlike her husband, She had a rather good aim. So, It hit the ghost boy.

"Yes!" She said triumphantly as she saw Phantom falling to the ground. (Get it? triumPHANtly? No? Just me? Alright then.) She ran as fast as she could to him. She found him lying in the middle of the small crater that was a result of Phantom's fall. She held her gun to his face. He moaned in pain and opened his eyes.

His neon green eyes widened as he saw his mother holding a gun. She looked threatening if not terrifying. He was too tired to escape and his throbbing body couldn't move. There was a cut on his leg that was bleeding heavily aside from the other 'not so serious' cuts.

He slowly sat and held his hurt leg with his hand to partially stop the bleeding. He knew if he moved an inch, he would reveal his biggest secret and he also knew that if he tried to reason with his mom, she wouldn't listen and he would end up praying to god she would let him be.

Knowing he wouldn't succeed in escaping,e decided to distract his mother or something until he regains a bit of his lost energy. He knew he was at a high risk at revealing who he really was.

"Do not move an inch, you ectoplasmic energy based creature." She threatened.

"You know, you could just call me 'Danny Phantom' or 'the ghost boy'. No need for those ridiculously long 'names' that sound so evil. I save this town, you know?" Danny smiled and raised his arms in defeat. Maddie rolled her eyes. He looked so vulnerable yet he couldn't just resist the urge to start that witty banter of his, She thought.

That ghost should've been afraid of her but he wasn't. In fact, he sounded like her son when someone calls him 'Daniel' and he tries to get them to say his nickname.

"Why?" Maddie finally said after a moment of silence.

"Why what?" Phantom raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you 'save this town'?" Maddie corrected. "Is it your obsession?"

"Well, sort of. People here, in Amity Park, do not deserve being attacked or even killed by other creatures that sometimes aren't even aware of what they're doing. It's just not fair. I know you, as ghost hunters, think that I am plotting for something evil but I am not. I just want humans to live happily." Danny answered truthfully.

"How did you die?" She asked.

"I am sorry, but I didn't know we were going to do a Q&A about my personal life!" Danny said completely annoyed. Maddie raised her blaster again.

"Fine. I.. got electrocuted when I was messing around my parent's lab equipment." Danny turned his face to the left. For some reason, Danny blushed and rubbed the back of his neck  when he lied but then he realized it wasn't completely a lie. Maddie did notice this movement. She got up and took a deep breathe.

"Why does everything this thing do is so similar to my son's actions?!" She yelled, mostly to herself.

"Because I am your son!" Danny wanted to tell her but instead replied with "Hey! I am not a thing! I used to be human! I used to be a 14 year old who had ambitions of being an astronau- uh Astro..physics scientist. Yeah! Astrophysics."

"Do you have something to do with my son?" Maddie asked as she remembered her dream.

"No! I haven't even met him in person!" Danny yelled back.

"That's it, I am moving you to my lab where we can have a little fun." Maddie put on her hood and clipped the blaster to her belt. She took out a net and was about to trap the ghost inside when a voice stopped her.

"No! Wait!" Danny said. She didn't know why she actually stopped but she did. "I have something to tell you." Maddie raised an eyebrow.

"I am half-ghost, Half-human.." He confessed.

"Like a halfa?" She asked as she dropped her hands to the sides but still held her net firmly. "Show me your human form." She said as she was trying not to act curious enough like Jack when he wanted to know if there was any fudge cookies. Danny looked at her measuring the possibilities of 'getting accepted' and 'not getting accepted'. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he turned into his human form again. Maddie gasped. A long moment of silence over-whelmed them. Maddie finally spoke.

"Liar." A word that made Danny gasp. He was about to reason with her but she cut him off. "Not only did you lie and told me that you don't know my son, you shapeshifted into him so that I leave you be and.. I trusted you! I thought you were saying the truth.. What did you do to my son?! Where is he?!"

"He is right her—" Danny said but was interrupted by a furious mother.

"No! No, he isn't!" She denied and he went ghost. Before Danny could do anything, She pulled him inside the net and she closed it with a tight knot. She pulled the net to the RV and drove home. On the way, It started raining heavily after the dark clouds gathered. Danny sat there, hugging his knees inside a ghost-proof net that burned him a little. Tears ran through his pale cheeks.

"I thought she was going to accept me, I thought it didn't matter if I am a ghost, a human or something in between, I had the slightest hope.. but I was wrong after all. Now she caught me and there is no way I will get out of there alive. My luck has ran out. I didn't even confess to Sam I love her. I didn't show to Jazz how much I love her even if she was a meddling, 'know-it-all', overbearing sister. I didn't show Tuck how much I appreciate his hard work and I will never have another chance to actually tell them that." Danny buried his head in his knees.

"I am so sorry.."

Maddie opened the door on the back of the RV and pulled the net out. She dug her hand in her pocket and got out her keys. She turned the key in the door and slowly opened it. For the first time in his life, Danny felt foreign in his own house. He got an idea.

"JAZZ! JAZZ! HELP ME, JAZZ!" Danny screamed at the top of his lungs. Maddie ran with the net and threw it on the stairs leading to the lab. Danny let out cries of pain until he landed on the lab's cold floor. Maddie went down the stairs and kicked the net.

"What do you think you are doing?!" Maddie whisper-yelled. Danny was unable to talk since he was in so much pain. He finally helped himself in a sitting position but he had his hands on the floor for support. She carried the net to a table and took Danny out of the net. Danny was partially relieved since the net was starting to tear in his flesh. She clipped him to the table and prepared her tools. Danny was shaking until he passed out from fear, pain and exhaustion. Maddie smiled at how vulnerable he looked like. She suddenly heard a voice behind her.

"MOM! STAY AWAY FROM HIM!" Jazz screamed. Maddie was startled and took a step back from him. Jazz ran to her brother and tapped on his cheek for him to wake up.

"Danny! it's me!" She softly called for him. He didn't respond. "What did you do to him?! What did you do to my brother?!" Maddie gasped.

"No! He is not your brother! Stop calling him that, it's not true! He can shapeshift into him! He is tricking you, Jasmine!" Maddie yelled back. Jazz figured Danny tried to tell her but she didn't listen. Danny changed back to his human form.

"Mom, it was the portal accident that made him half-ghost. I know this is hard for you but this is the truth. This is your son and my brother. This is Danny, Mom." Jazz pointed to the portal then her brother. Maddie went silent.

"The flash of light.."

"When he transforms." Jazz continued for her.

"And the blue mist thingy.."

"A ghost sense."

"His grades, the constant curfew missing, his strange demeanor.. That was due to his constant ghost-fighting." Maddie ran a hand through her hair. She looked at the unconscious form of her son. She ran to him and unclipped his ties.

"Jazz, Help me carry him to his room." She said and they both carried him to his room.

Pain.. was the only thing Danny emotionally encountered before he opened his eyes. He found himself on his bed. He couldn't remember what happened before he passed out. It took him a few minutes to actually sit on his bed without falling back on his pillow and groaning. He found his leg bandaged and that made him remember everything about that night. His mother was on a chair sound asleep. Jazz went inside the room to check on her brother only to find him awake.

"Danny!" She ran to him and hugged him.

"Jazz! What happened?" Danny let go after he hugged her back.

"I heard you when you shouted for help. When I checked on mom and dad to make sure they weren't awake, I didn't find Mom. You went silent and I looked for you until I found you unconscious on a lab table and mom in front of you. I told her a quick, non-detailed explanation and we carried you to bed. Then I told her the whole story and we also found that large cut on your leg that was bleeding heavily so we bandaged it."

"My healing powers didn't work?"

"You lost a lot of energy. What the heck were you fighting?" Jazz shrugged

"I fought Klemper, Vlad who was actually about to kill Dad, The box ghost three times and finally Skulker. That blaster mom used on me drained my energy, too. How long was I out?" He let out a tired sigh.

"About 16 hours. Sam and Tucker checked on you since you missed school. Mr.Lancer called so I told him you fell sick. Sam and Tucker dropped your homework and a few notes from class." Jazz said. The ghost finder that laid down on Danny's desk started beeping and it startled Maddie awake. She looked in front of her and found Jazz and Danny sitting on the bed facing each other.

"Don't worry, Mom. I will do it." Danny said and was about to go ghost when a hand was placed on his shoulder.

"Danny, no. I will go tell Dad to do it." Jazz said and left the room closing the door behind her after she winked at her mom. Maddie sat on the bed near the end. Danny barely stopped the urge to flinch.

"How's your leg?" She asked touching his hurt leg but he winced this time since his leg hurt very badly. Maddie instantly retracted her hand.

"It's okay. Just hurts a little." Danny answered. A long moment of silence followed by then Maddie defeated her hesitance and continued.

"Danny, I am so sorry. I.. I always thought ghosts were evil and especially Danny Phantom. I was furious when people said that he was a hero and I never noticed the similarities. I tried to dissect you and I really hate to say it but I was very excited to do it. I didn't believe you even after you showed me because I never thought the portal accident had that much of an effect. I was surprised and I almost believed you but I.. I hurt you badly and I understand now. I am very sorry, Danny. It's okay if you didn't forgive me. I deserve it anyways."

Tears demanded to fall from her eyes and roll down her cheeks. Danny pushed himself to his mother and hugged her tight.

"It's okay, Mom. I forgive you." Danny said as his mother hugged him back with tears still rushing down her rosy cheeks. "I love you."

"I love you too, Danny."
