Journey From Dawn to Midnight
This was a very emotional one-shot to write. Might as well get to it, huh?
Please, do enjoy this chapter.

He carried the burden of the whole world on his shoulders.
Danny stood up in a shaking stance. With a wavering groan of pain as his hand tightened on his stomach, he fell back on his knees. A thought of the mere possibility of not making it to any hospital in time did pass his foggy mind, only it was interrupted with the sharp pain he felt when he fell back on the empty streets. He coughed, feeling warm liquid drip from his lips to his chin. He quickly swiped his hand across his face to quickly get rid of the blood.
When his peers went out partying or ran from the police, he was out fighting ghosts and escaping his enemies.
"Daniel! I found Daniel!" A masculin voice echoed in the empty street. Danny felt the footsteps of many shake the ground as they approached him. A hand grabbed him and shook him until Danny opened his eyes halfway. He saw the blurry image of Vlad, cursing as he looked intensely at his stomach.
He was nocturnal, like an owl in the night, hooting at the rise of the moon. He stayed awake for days to keep this city safe from the ghosts lingering in the dark.
"He did it! He defeated the titan!" A stranger's voice screamed joyfully. Danny wanted to smile at the huge applause that filled the streets, breaking the eerie silence in which Danny had remained after he heard the final scream of the titan. "He saved us all again!" Another voice chanted.
"Quiet down, people!" Vlad yelled at them then placed his hand on the wound in Daniel's stomach, which caused him to jerk and cry in pain loudly, grasping the attention of everybody. Danny's breathing quickened. "You know I hate you, but I would also hate it if you died in my arms right now."
Danny felt petty enough that he wanted to die in his arms to prove how much he hated him back, but it was a hard bargain. To lose his life for revenge.
But it seemed to Danny that he didn't have much of a choice anyway. A feeling of dread yet rest harboured in his bones that this might be his last day in the earth, and these might be his last few drags of air.
Many questioned "Why does he do this?", Many questioned why he does what he does with no return. Turns out, he made a pact with the man of fate, that he would keep the ghosts at bay in exchange of maintaining the safety of us, his loved ones, and this town.
It was a hard bargain to achieve, but Danny was a man of his word. He would never promise a thing without working to make it happen..
"Danny!" A girl screamed. That scream ripped his soul in half. He recognised her voice. It was Sam, and he didn't want her to see him like this.
She dropped to her knees, carefully holding his cheeks and directing his tired eyes at her. One tip of his lips made an effort to smile, but it was in vain. She could see from his eyes that he was happy to see her. She brushed his dirty jet black hair and planted a kiss on his forehead. "Danny, you are going to be okay, some people called the ambulance."
"'S okay.." He finally replied in a whisper. It was nearly inaudible.
"Danny, hey.." His black friend in the beret held his hand and squeezed it, like how they would do when they give each other a brotherly hug. Tucker grimaced at the ectoplasm on his clothes. Danny's pale face could've brightened at the sight of Tucker if he hadn't been so.. ill. "Hey, dude, help is on the way. Hang on tight."
Jazz was right behind with her parents. She jumped beside Danny and knelt down, ruffling his hair. She eyed the people who had made a circle around the hero warily.
"Little brother, hang on for me. Promise me you would hang on." She repeated. Danny shook his head very subtly.
"Danny, promise me. Promise me you'll hang on." He dragged in breath after breath very tightly and quickly. She took off her bandanna and gave it to Vlad. He took it without question and removed his hand, quickly placed the bandanna over the wound and he pressed on it very tightly. Danny's breathing hitched and he let out a breathless moan, beads of sweat formed across his face. His eyes were drooping.
"The ambulance is not going to make it in time." Vlad turned to the parents, who had just come. "You know what to do." His eyes met the dirty ground of the streets.
"I love you, Danny." Sam said, "I love you so much."
"Love.. you.. too.. Love.." He inhaled sharply, "Love.. all.."
"And we all love you, Baby Brother." Jazz said, drying her tears quickly as to not show her brother her sadness.
He said he loved us all.
He said if he was given the chance to go through the portal and become Danny Phantom, he would do it all again in a heartbeat.
"Danny, you will always be.. not my best friend, my brother." Tucker took of his glasses and just smiled to prevent his tears from streaming down. Danny actually managed to smile back at him.
"Tuck.." He squeezed his hand. Tucker understood the notion. He tried not to sob in front of his best friend.
"I do regret making your life difficult sometimes." Danny stared at him. Vlad cleared his throat, "Well, always. I am sorry."
"Will try.. t' forgive." Danny turned his head and groaned at the pain as Vlad held the bandanna more tightly to his skin.
He even told his number one enemy he'd try to forgive him. Given the information I personally have that merely suggests that his enemy did make his life a living hell, I am surprised how forgiving and merciful this sixteen year old was at times.
"It will be my honor, Little Badger."
"Danny." His mother was crying. Sam had to make some room so she could sit by her son. She kissed him on his cheeks and rubbed her forehead at his son, "My baby, I love you so much. Please, forgive me, your father and I."
"Love.. you.." Danny took a breath, "Forgiven." He said. He was slipping away.
He forgave his parents who used to call his alterego a menace, threaten to tear him apart molecule by molecule and shot at him.
You know, he..
He had the biggest heart.
"Danny-boy.." Jack finally said, but he couldn't contain his tears, "I will always proud to have you as my son." Danny shed two tears that travelled in different directions to the side of his head. His green eyes then glistened as they stared into a void no human or ghost can enter. Almost immediately, all broke down into tears. Vlad have tried to do chest compressions, but it was fruitless to do so on a ghost.
The ghost boy turned human, changing the green blood into the dreadful crimson color. Suddenly, the stab in his stomach and the blood pouring out of his mouth and nose was threatening yet chilling.
The people around them started to take pictures. Vlad stood up, his hands stained with the blood of the boy.
"For the love of—" He started to yell but he inhaled sharply, "If you have a bit of heart in your empty ribcages, you wouldn't take pictures of your dead hero or his grieving family! Scatter!" He screamed at them. They hesitated, "I SAID 'SCATTER'!" He yelled and they ran.
Maddie weeped over her son as she stared at her lifeless eyes. When she calmed down, she took the liberty of pushing his eyelids closed.
"You saved us.. You can now rest." She said, her heart breaking. She turned to Jack with tearful eyes. He wrapped his arms around her tightly. He shook as he held her.
Despite all of that he has gone through to make this town safe, he had never regretted a moment of it. He once told me that he had made a lot of mistakes, but going through that portal wasn't a mistake..
An inhale was heard in the microphone, followed by a shaky deep sigh.
"Danny Phantom is never gone. He will live in the hearts of those who he had saved.." Sam sniffed lightly, but she remained composed, "He has suffered a lot in his life, but I am hoping that he could have his deserved rest in the afterlife.."
Sam continued after an exhale, "In the honour of Danny Phantom and Fenton, the sixteen year old kid that has managed to save our lives once again without a care about his own.."
