Haileys age: 5

Dan held his daughter as she slept soundly in his arms. Phil was out shopping for her birthday. Dan wanted it to be perfect. She was the best gift they ever had, and she was the sweetest person they have ever met.

She snored softly as his phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Daniel, this is the London Police Department."
I froze for a minute, before sitting up.
"Yes?"
"Your aunt has had an accident. She's in a hospital in a coma. "

I wanted to cry.  She was the only other person in my family who loved Hailey. My uncle, her wife, already was dead, and now she's close to death too.
"What hospital. I'm on my way. "
"London national hospital."

Dan let the cop hang up the phone. He felt Hailey stirr. He let the tears he was holding back out slowly. They fell on his shirt sleeve. Hailey clung to him in her sleep.

Dan let the river flow.

He hugged his daughter back. She woke up groggily.
"Dadda." She spoke. Her voice filled with innocence.
"Im...ok." Dan spoke drying his eyes, which did nothing because he kept crying.
"I love you dadda." She said.

Hailey clung to Dan. A hug he very much needed.

"Happy birthday sweetie. " Dan said. He let his breath steady. Just as Phil came home.
"Phil your home."
"Dan what's the matter. "
"Phil...I need to run an...errand."
Phil hesitated but nodded.

Hailey ran to Phil.
"Happy birthday Hailey." Phil said scooping her up.

Dan left to see his aunt in a coma.

Phil smiled at Hailey.
"What's wrong with Dadda?" Phil asked.
"He cry, and I hug him and make it better!" Hailey squealed.

Phil worried. Dan never was just emotional.
"Hailey, here I got you some ice cream. Go eat it in the kitchen."
Hailey smiled taking the bag Phil had given her and ran off.

Phil dialed Dan's number.
"Dan..."
"...yes Phil.." His voice was thick with tears.
"Dan what happened?"
"...my aunt, she's in a coma..." Dan choked out.

Phils heart sank.
"Dan I'm sorry."
"Phil make sure Hailey had a good birthday..."
"Ok."

Phil hung up.

Dan loved his aunt.

Hailey ran in smiling, ice cream all over her face.
"Papa!!!" Hailey screeched.
"Lets go get you cleaned up."

Phil walked off to clean up.......
