~ Te Amo

Te Amo

Prompt: StarLotte_ "What if maybe one of them was from a different country and they couldn't speak the language so the other could help them learn... Idk. That could work with smut or fluff. Maybe the one from a different country could learn to say I love you in English and blahblah fluff."

Words: 3097

"Mr Lester, would you please stay behind for a moment?" My English teacher called as the bell went. I frowned and nodded, pulling my bag over my shoulder and watching every one else file out of class.

"I'll see you in the canteen." Chris, my best friend, smiled and waved as he walked out the room with everyone else. I sighed and walked towards the teacher's desk.

"Don't worry, you're not in trouble." He smiled and I sat down opposite him. "Now, we have a new transfer student and I'd like you to show them around and make them feel welcome. Apparently he's come from Spain so I'm not too sure if he can speak the language. I think the language teachers are going to arrange some classes for him if he can't but since you're one of our best students we figured you'd be the best to show him around. You took Spanish last year so I'm sure you'll be fine." He smiled and I internally groaned. Yes, I was a good student but I hated it when teachers dumped responsibilities on me.

"Of course sir." I smiled falsely.

"Brilliant. His name is Daniel Howell. He's in the languages block now, ask some of the teachers and you can show him round the school since it's break." he grinned and walked over to his white board without another word, writing down some tasks for the next class. I scowled at his back but pulled my bag back over my shoulder and power walked out of the class room. I didn't have time to be baby sitting.

I hurriedly made it to the languages block and knocked on the staff room door. The head of languages - Mr Lockley opened it and smiled politely at me. "What can I do for you Mr Lester?" He asked.

"I'm here to escort Daniel?" I asked un-surely.

"Oh of course! He's in room L3 talking to the Mrs Perez. He doesn't talk much so I doubt you'll get much out of him." He shrugged but smiled kindly.

"Thanks sir." I nodded at him and continued to class room L3. I peered in through the glass and saw the Spanish teacher Mrs Perez talking to a boy. I couldn't see his face since his back was facing the door. I knocked twice then pushed it open.

"Hello Miss." I smiled politely.

"Hola Philip." She smiled and the boy turned to look at me. I could immediately tell he was timid by the way he moved. My eyes went a little wide when I caught a glimpse of his face - he was really pretty. He had tanned skin, warm chocolate brown eyes and mocha coloured hair. He was fairly slim and looked to be around my height even though he was sitting down I could see his long legs spread out under the desk.  "Daniel you can go with Philip, he's going to show you around and make sure you get to classes." She smiled and Dan only nodded quietly.

He stood up and walked in my direction. I smiled out of politeness and the corner of his mouth curled up into a sort of timid half-smile. To be honest he was pretty adorable. "Hi, I'm Phil." I introduced myself as we left the class room.

"Dan." He replied quietly and I could the slight twinge of an accent although it wasn't easy to decipher through such a short word.

"Can you understand English well?" I asked curiously in case I had to pull out my old vocabulary jotters so I could talk with him. He nodded silently, not looking in my direction. "Ok ... well as you can tell this is the languages corridor. there are six class rooms in total and you can study Italian, Spanish, German and French." I explained then exited to the corridor into a separate one.

"This is the English base and at the end of the hall is social studies and media. There is another media classroom downstairs which is often used for actual technical studies and filming." We went up a floor. "This is were you come to maths and since you're new I'd guess you'd have maths with Mr Jameson which is in M4, remember that. Down this corridor is Fashion and Art so don't forget where we just came from. HFT and CDT are on the ground floor. CDT is at the left end of the school and HFT is nearer the kitchens so you go down the corridor adjacent to the canteen. Finally the PE department is at the right side of the building as well as music. There are two different hallways but they have signs so you should be able to find it. Any questions?" I asked as we made it to the ground floor and walked towards the canteen.

Dan swallowed but shook his head. I frowned a little, he really didn't talk much. "Ok, if you go to the office they'll give you a locker and key. I advise you get one because you usually have a lot of books and jotters to carry." I explained and then stopped outside the canteen doors. The boy nodded once again and I raised an eyebrow. "Right ... well." I cleared my throat in awkwardness. "What classes do you have next?" I asked, trying to coax some words out of him.

However, he didn't speak and reached into his bag and pulled out his time table. I took it from him and scanned over it. He was into his creative arts - there was plenty of music and art. "Alright, well you should know how to get to those now, if you need help just come see me alright?" I offered and Dan smiled a little and nodded. Again, no words. Is it weird that I wanted to hear his voice? "Ok, well bye then." I smiled awkwardly before walking into the canteen, searching for Chris.

Soon enough I spotted my friend laughing loudly with my other best friend - PJ Liguori. "Hey guys." I smiled and sat down with them.

"Where have you been?" PJ raised an eyebrow.

"I have to help the new kid."

"Damn, bad luck. That's what you get for being a teacher's pet." Chris smirked.

"Shut up, I'm not a teacher's pet. I just have the capability to do well in school, unlike some people." I shot back with a smirk.

"Ouch, that was cold Lester." Chris clutched his chest and pretended to act wounded. PJ chuckled and shook his head - Chris was such a dork.

"Are they nice?" PJ asked, changing the subject.

"He's ... quiet?" I was unsure of what to class him. I couldn't really conclude a personality when he had only said one word to me which was his name.

"Poor thing. Coming here is like being thrown into the belly of the beast." Chris said dramatically and I couldn't stop the grin from forming on my face.

"You're an idiot." PJ stated.

"Am not! You don't have to be so blunt Peej!" Chris whined like a four year old. I found it funny when Chris was pining in front of PJ - it was as if Chris always seeked PJ's approval which I found cute in the sense I thought they would be a good couple.

"So what's happening for lunch, are we going to town or eating in?" PJ asked, ignoring Chris's whining.

"Well I have to help out in the music department so you guys will have to decide." I explained.

"Teacher's pet." Chris muttered and I kicked him under the table - making him yelp and PJ chuckle.

"Why do you always laugh when I get hurt?" Chris pouted.

"Because you deserve it." PJ smirked and he and I laughed at Chris's scowl.

I was packing away some cellos when Mr Lavigne - the music teacher walked into the store cupboard. "Hey, some of the third years left their instruments into practice room B, would you mind collecting them?" He asked and I nodded, zipping up the last cello case and walking out.

I let out a yawn. The only reason I was volunteering was because my friend - Louise who was in the music school was off sick and usually did the volunteering. I was only filling in for her like a good friend. I walked down the music corridor, listening to the different sounds from the practice rooms on the way.

Practice room B was in my sight but I suddenly stopped and frowned. Someone was playing the piano - not only that but they were playing the theme tune to Princess Mononoke which just so happened to be one of my favourite movies. I strained my ears to pick out where it was coming from and walked past practice room B to a room five doors down.

I looked through the window in the door and stared in awe as I saw Dan on the piano, fingers elegantly working away on the keys. I watched, mesmerized by how graceful he made it look and how the song came out note-perfect. I felt almost privileged to be able to witness the moment and have the music grace my ears. I grinned to myself because Dan had a concentrated look on his face and his nose was scrunched up a little and honestly he was adorable.

I summoned up some courage and pushed the door open. I had barely stepped into the room when the music suddenly stopped and I felt my stomach drop when the magical sound no longer reached my ears. "Hi." I smiled sheepishly and Dan looked like he was a puppy caught in the headlights. "It sounded really good." I blurted and Dan's warm brown eyes darted up to my face, making my breath hitch. He was honestly too beautiful for words.

It was barely audible but I thought I heard the boy whisper a 'thank you' which made me smile. "Please keep playing." I smiled encouragingly and sat down on the seat next to him which I guessed would be where his teacher sat. Dan swallowed, looking anxious and bit his lip. He glanced at the keys before looking back at my face, not really knowing what to do. "Sorry I shouldn't have said anything." I apologized, feeling unhappy about making him uncomfortable.

Dan shook his head suddenly and he turned back to the piano with a small smile and started playing the song again. I smiled and watched Dan's fingers glide over the keys as they played the tune once again. I sat in silence and drank in the music as Dan played the whole thing through and I felt disappointed when his fingers finally left the keys. "That was amazing." I grinned and I felt my heart flutter when I saw a smile make its way onto Dan's face accompanied by a handsome dimple. He really was gorgeous.

"Mr Lester? What are you doing in here?" Mr Lavigne asked from the doorway. I whipped round in surprise.

"Oh, I'm sorry sir. I got a little sidetracked." I admitted sheepishly and Dan went back to staring intently at the keys - hiding behind his fringe.

"Alright, can you please get back to work now?" He asked.

"Yes, sorry sir." I apologized and said a quick goodbye to Dan before scurrying out the room and going back to practice room B.

I had been watching Dan practice for weeks. I was always mesmerized when he would play and he ended up showing me all the songs he'd learnt from Studio Ghibli and even some more classical ones which I was equally mesmerized by. There was something about how comfortable Dan looked and how at peace he was when getting lost in the music. I loved seeing it every time I snuck in to watch him practice.

He still didn't talk much but he would nod and shake his head to any questions I'd ask him. I loved the fact that he was becoming more comfortable around me because I knew that I was forming a little crush on the boy. He was too adorable not to like and not to mention gorgeous. "Um, I'm going out for coffee after school. I don't suppose you'd like to come?" I asked anxiously one day as Dan was scanning the sheet music.

Dan's head whipped up in shock and he stared at me with round chocolate eyes. "You don't have to of course. I mean it's winter and it's cold so you'd probably want to get home as soon as possible." I stumbled over my words but I was stopped when I heard Dan speak.

"Yes." He grinned and I swear it was the brightest I'd ever seen him smile, it warmed my heart.

"O-okay, great." I beamed and the both of us just smiled stupidly at each other.

I waited for him at the front of the school after the final bell and I blew into both my clenched fists to warm them up because it was really chilly - winter always was. Soon enough I saw a mop of brown hair and couldn't help grin when I saw him wrapped up in a scarf, jacket and gloves. He looked super cute. "Hi." I smiled and he nodded, smiling back at me. "This way." I gestured for him to follow and we walked into town.

I  stopped outside my favourite coffee shop with Dan at my heels and we both ordered hot drinks. We sat down in a comfy booth by the window where the windows had crystallized a little from the frost. "I bet this'll be freezing for you considering you've come from Spain." I pointed out and wrapped my cold fingers round the hot cup, sighing a little at the warmth. Dan nodded and took a sip of his drink. At this point I was used to his silence and even found it a little comforting as conversation wasn't expected or forced.

"I know you don't talk a lot and I'm not going to force you out of your comfort zone, so how about I tell you a little bit about myself and you can say anything you want or nothing at all if you want?" I suggested and I just caught the smile that spread across Dan's face which made me feel warm inside. He nodded and I started to tell him about my hobbies and interests and then drifted off into telling him about my past and funny stories which even earned me a few giggled. I swear I was getting more smitten each day. He didn't have to say a word for me to fall for him - and I was falling hard.

I continued to talk to him for nearly three hours and it was starting to get dark out. I was surprised and delighted when Dan spoke a little - saying short sentences about himself and I honestly felt special to hear his voice properly with my own ears and it had this wonderful Spanish twang to it which suited him. However, I soon noticed that we had been out for far too long.

"Uh oh, it's getting really dark and it's snowing pretty hard." I bit my lip and frowned at the dangerous weather. Dan looked outside and his eyes widened as if it was the first time he'd seen snow - maybe it was. That thought made me smile momentarily thought until I remembered we had to get home. "I'm going to call a taxi so we don't get into any accidents." I told him and he nodded, not tearing his gaze away from the snow which showed that of child-like wonder. I felt myself fall just a little more.

Soon enough our taxi arrived and we both hopped in the back seat. I asked Dan his address and then told the driver, dropping him off first. We made it to his house and I smiled when I saw a cute little house with two floors and a bright red door. I told the driver to wait and hopped out the back seat with Dan, walking him to his door. "Sorry for waffling for three hours." I chuckled and Dan grinned, hugging his arms since it was very cold.

"I probably talked your ear off. Sorry about that." Dan shook his head, still smiling.

"I enjoyed it." Dan whispered and I grinned. He was looking particularly gorgeous in the beam of his porch light, rosy cheeked with snow flakes in his hair and scarf. His eyes seemed to sparkle with happiness and I swear I'd never seen anything more beautiful in my life. Taking a risk I stepped forward and pecked his rosy cheek before taking a larger step back in case he hit me. Instead I was faced with round eyes.

"Um ... I hope you have a nice night." I smiled nervously and turned to walk back to the waiting taxi. I had taken two steps when I heard Dan.

"PHIL!" He called and I was a little surprised because that was the loudest he'd ever been. I turned round in surprise and watched Dan walk over to me. As soon as he was close enough he cupped my cheeks and pulled me to his lips. Even though I was surprised, I immediately melted into the kiss. I snaked my arms round his waist and kissed him back passionately. His lips were soft and felt amazing against my own and  by then I was completely loved up.

Kissing the boy I had a crush on in the snow after walking him to his door was honestly the best cliche I could have hoped for. He pulled away and we both breathed out - our breath turning into smokey clouds from the cold. His cheeks seemed to grow pinker and he was beaming and practically glowing from head to toe. "Te amo." Dan suddenly whispered before pecking my lips then jogging back to his front door. He threw me a cheeky grin over his shoulder before disappearing inside.

I was still in a daze from the kiss but what he'd said made my cheeks flare. I didn't have to have an A in Spanish to know what that phrase meant and my cheeks ached the whole way home from grinning because honestly Dan was perfect.

Who wouldn't smile if someone said, "I love you."
